why do the t-38s still need a parachute on the back of the pilot? even the phantom and the a-4s have built in chutes. and those planes are as old as the t-38.
GPA in college is very important, but your GPA in high school means very little when it comes to getting a pilot slot (other than to get you into a good school, which can also affect your chances).
@piloti337 Everyone should keep in mind that high school GPA doesn't mean squat except for initially trying to get into college. If you're trying to do anything past that, it's all about your COLLEGE GPA. If you have a 1.0 high school GPA, but a 3.9 college GPA from a national university (regionally accredited) and score in the 95th percentile on the LSAT guess what? You're going to Law School with little effort. Same goes for getting into Med School... all about your COLLEGE science GPA.
@piloti337 A large wake up call for many college students is that the more rigorous schools are a lot harder than high school. We've all seen the guy with a 3.7 high school GPA fail out of a top 25 school while the guy with a 2.8 GPA and great SAT score sails through college with a 3.75 GPA and gets into Grad school. College is basically required for all the good jobs in life.
All you young guns out there need to understand one simple and VERY important thing; listen and respect your mentors, whether that is your parents, teachers, coaches or others. The more you rebel a.k.a. 'phuk off', the more you screw up your chances of doing something great like this. Being stupid is not a good thing on your record if you want to be a pilot among other things. Respect yourself and be mature; doors will open for those that play by the rules.
so im a junior in highschool aswell, and my accumulated gpa is around a 1.8 due to freshman year. does highschool GPA count that high towards becoming a pilot?

@MrIke112 GPA really isn't as important as your ability to learn to fly. You should consider going in the Marines. We have guaranteed flight slots. You will fly something armed. VAFB 03-07 "Hangrips Raise, Triggers Squeeze".
@unrated12soloist Not really. If you can afford to buy a plane, it doesn't mean you can afford keeping it. A $60,000 corvette is cheaper than a $60,000 Cessna 310 (a twin piston prop plane). You'll be spending a minimum of $4500 a month just on fuel if you fly for about an hour a day. Fuel is just one part of overall expenses in aircraft ownership. Ever think about where to keep your plane? Airports need some money too you know. Owning a plane is EXPENSIVE, but the pride and joy is PRICELESS!
@quantomic1106 well of course but with a steady job and such, its like renting a house plus super expensive 102 octane jet fuel...of course its not cheap maintaining it, but buying it is relatively cheaper than a european super sports car...plus around 20k over 4 or 5 years to learn instrumentation and single/multi engine maneuverability a.k.a. pilot's lessons and ratings according to FAA and retired military aircraft expectations...and honestly, i somewhat know what im talking about...
@unrated12soloist I got my Pvt. pilot license in a Cessna 172 at 45 flight hrs and it cost me more than 10K. And jet fuel is not 102 octane, its way lower than Cessna's 100 octane Low Lead. Learning "instrumentation" aka IFR rating will cost you a min of 20K at 150 flight hrs in a C172 even under part61 14CFR. If you try to learn that in a twin jet aircraft, multiply the price by at least 10 and u may be half way there. You need more than a steady job to own a jet, you need a steady $company$!
@quantomic1106 you got ripped off cause here at the long beach airport that's what it cost for everything (pvt. license, ratings, ground simulator, etc) and they pay jet fuel...now its double for that for double and multi engine but they still pay jet fuel...
@unrated12soloist Ratings too? Wow!! no offense but you really have no idea what you're talking bout at all! And what about this jet fuel-jet fuel. Why would someone pay for a jet fuel for an plane that don't use it. That doesn't make any sense. Really dude you have a minuscule knowledge on aviation no offense. You should take flying lessons, at least earn private, it should only take 2-3 moths if u fly 3-4 times a week. Trust me, you'll learn a lot and its hell of FUN! Then we'll talk again.
@quantomic1106 honestly gtfo...why dont you wikipedia pilot certification and then we'll talk again...again, i wanted to be a pilot in the air force until i discovered that wasn't for me...and yes, im going to get my pvt. pilot license and as well do the instrument rating course at the long beach flying club after i graduate from med school when im 24, so please, piss off and thank you...
@unrated12soloist i was trying to be nice. Haha wikipedia! ur truly an amateur at most! Why wont u learn and gather facts before u start talking about a subject? You just made ur self sound like an idiot from the start. 102 octane jet fuel? What the fuck! Certainly flying for the AF is not for you, cuz i see u dont have what it takes! Playing "KNOW IT ALL" in training will get ur ass kick in no time. How do I know? cuz i'm in the AF, works avionics on B-52H and fly GA aircraft. Grow up amateur!

@unrated12soloist why do I need to go search up google like amateur when I have FAA-H-8083-25A and FAR/AIM? Bet you dont even know what it means? I dont have comp reading power, its called logical assumption. I'm not a genius but even the stupidest idiot can figure it out buy noticing your attitude and stubbornness. Theres no room for this kind of mindset in training! Sorry if I sound very offensive, I'm just being honest. I dont like people failing cuz of false hope, so I'm very straightforward
@quantomic1106 Clearly you have too much free time to be argueing with people over stupid things. What is an airman like you doing wasting your time? Hell, if you are at work, than work, or send stupid as* emails to all of your bro's. If you are at home, enjoy your life ;) . There isn't enough hours in your day to be messing around on here, fighting facts vs opinions and all of that stuff.
@piloti337 I guess you mean like World War II, in the Pacific? Who had better carrier ops? the winning team... aka USA. same team bud I'm just messin with you haha
@piloti337 lmao, the thing that jthril2009 doesn't relieze is that your a actual pilot. Also you got to train in a T38 and hell for all we know you can be flying a F-22 or F-39. I want to be a pilot for the USAF also, I plan to go to Embry Riddle Daytona and join the ROTC. I would like to talk to you, to see how you went about it. Its my dream to fly a fighter jet. Thanks in advance
@Legofattythatfarted Nope. It's Vance AFB in Enid, Oklahoma. The USAF trains pilots from other countries on exchange with the USAF (Italy, Qatar, UK, Canada, UAE, Saudi Arabia..in this video Italy.) as well as their own. I was apart of class 03-03 and I can tell you Vance sucks. It's in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere. There's always CB in the spring/summer and feet of snow in the winter.
You're an idiot. All the F-4 and -105 guys to whom you are referring started here. In fact... over that same featurless terrain and in those very same aircraft.

@1968Celeste These jets are out of Vance. I wouldn't worry too much about not getting to "fly" the T-38 sim. The sim is nothing like flying the jet anyways.
@Spaceguy5 I guess you know that the T-38 is based on the F-5 configuration. I'm curious about what differences, if any, there are between the two airframes.
My dad was a T-37 and 38 instructor at Vance in the mid 70s. My mom would drive to the end of the runway and from the fenceline we would watch him taxi out and take off. He gave us a wave and a thumbs up before he lowered the canopy and started his takeoff roll.
Thats a T-38? I think they look soooo badass. Nice and sleek, Aerodynamic. Definately my favorite plane. I want to own one some day and fly through some canyons.
Man that brings back great memories. Class 84-07 at CBM then a FAIP. Have about 1200 hrs in T-38 and loved it. Anyone remember Tulsa FBO and the hot chicks?
I wouldn't have a chance in hell at flying a jet ! But I play guitar, and this song... quite well, as I don't own this album, this video brought me here to play along. Thank you for posting !!!!! unrated12soloist 5 months ago
@unrated12soloist So you think a ferrari, and a "jet", lets say for example, the F22, have the same price tag?
F22 costs on average around $150million. Plus the costs of all the correct license's needed is several hundred thousand pounds.
Find me a ferrari that costs $150million, and a driver's license that costs next to nothing.
Stop talking about things you're clueless on.
yinkyylol 4 months ago
@yinkyylol well jet meaning a L-29 retired military aircraft...and you cant privately own an F22 so lets use common sense...
unrated12soloist 3 months ago
@unrated12soloist Still, "jet" covers a wide range of aircraft, and ex-military "jets" go for a fair bit more than a few hundred thousand:P
And you can privately own a Hunter Jet, ex-military, used to be armed, so yeh.

Saw these guys in concert and this song live, being there, just gave me chills.

T-38s are perhaps the sexiest planes ever created <_< I got to see a few NASA T-38s up close, I wish I could fly one =p
Spaceguy5 1 year ago
@Spaceguy5 I guess you know that the T-38 is based on the F-5 configuration. I'm curious about what differences, if any, there are between the two airframes.

I was in Vance 83-07. In our day the IPs didn't have computers on their desks, and the T-38s were white. Not much else looks different. Nice video.

My dad was a T-37 and 38 instructor at Vance in the mid 70s. My mom would drive to the end of the runway and from the fenceline we would watch him taxi out and take off. He gave us a wave and a thumbs up before he lowered the canopy and started his takeoff roll.

What IS it about T-38s flying that looks almost poetic?
They just look, right, streaking among the clouds like that.
PTKilowatt 2 years ago
are these good fighting planes like the f16 f15 f18 or are they more for tranning?
twyztted 2 years ago
Mostly for training. Some air forces use T-38 variants as combat aircraft, and in the right hands, it is a capible fighter.

The day landing prowess wins a war is the day the navy rules. You all should spend your flight time traing for combat rather than patterns.
