When his in the mood of bolting after every jump have you tried trotting up to the jumps rather then canter I find that helps to stop them boiling over and going silly x
wow your horse is beutiful but you look kinda small on him bobbing up and down bless
and he has a lovely ump and he's not hyper or misbehaved bbz whn i show my horse he rears and gallops off this hors eis fine pretty calmb tbh ive seen ALOT worse you should compete him at a higher level
wow u guys jump together butifuly maybe if u take him in to a trainer or somthing hell stop that little rampage thing he does and no affence sometimes when they do rampage its cause its to much horse for that rider but i think if u give it some more time and learning a trainging tecneak u can easly compete with him.......u 2 look like u belong with eachother u look so good on that horse!................and btw hes a BUTIFUL horse!
Legs back, horse under you, give him his head a little more, lose the spurs and more than anything relax. There is a reason horses are used in Theraputic Rideing, thier movement is soothing, let yourself feel his movement. But also, that horse is HUGE and your rather tiny, he may smell your fear and on top of that, he knows he's bigger. If you expect him to be bad and you are in that "I'm ready for action" state of mind, he will feel that through your body and he'll give you action.
@horsey4u1234 You mean pull release right? Not sesawing......because id'e have to internet scream at you if you considered that helpfull advice. Thats "How to ruin your horse in the quickest way" advice.
@horsey4u1234 Sesawing is never the right answer, not even lightly, it should never be done. If you want your horse to stop you use a low pull in and realse then repeat. I tried sesawing a litle once JUST to see if all those "I've had lessons for years it's the only thing that works." people are right. It didn't do anything but hurt my horse. His head came up he went faster, he was in pain and iv'e never ever used pain and never will again. Don't sesaw.
Ok well maybe your horse doesnt like it, and no, sesawing is not the only thing that works. On my horse, a light pull and release will get her to slow down and that works absolutly fine. Maybe you should let go of ur horses mouth, and maybe you do now! and if u do now then thats great (: because i no everyone makes mistakes and this was 4 years ago!
@horsey4u1234 Um...I'm not touching my horse's mouth. I just know that sesawing is the best way to ruin a horse, not just that mine dosn't like it. But it's an awfull way to try to make your horse listen, it's made more horses buck people off and make them rear over on top of more people than any other method iv'e seen, even digging spurs into a horse's side doesn't do as much damage as sesawing.
@JasperIsaLittleHorse i love how u only reply to my comments about u being in his mouth when everyone else says u are to. soooo.. ya. Goodluck with that.;
@horsey4u1234 um...excuse me I'm NOT the person in this video dude that isn't even my account, come backa nd looka t the damned User name under "Uploaded by" This isn't MY video...Go look at my actually videos and you will see I don't fuckin hang off my horse's mouth liek a damned fool. I help train green horses and if i did what she's doing id'e be effin dead by now!
if you really think the Bipolar is bad well maybe somthing is stressing him, you should try starting him in Natural Horsemanship as well as work with him jumping, believe me Natural Horsemanship works wonders.
Not to be mean but honest. When wearing spurs you have to really push your heal down or the horse wont like it very much. You need to be less stiff with your body, sit up, push your heals down and ride. If you do this i bet it would help. Most of the things your horse is reacting about is because of your actions! Dont take this as mean but informative!
it looks like something is hurting him on his "bipolar" days, horses rarely do anything without a reason. It could something like a pulled muscle on his back etc. A good horse chiropractor can tell you which muscles he needs to develop more or is those that he is really tense in.
^Not Criticizing^ In the canter , you are literally leaning backward, that can annoy a horse if your on their back to much, my horse is like that. Jumping, you aren't letting him go, you'r catching him in the mouth almost every single time. Catching him in the mouth over the fences can make him bolt like that, that hurts them! They're trying to jump but all us riders do is get in there way, the least we can do is give them a release and get off their back a little
Yeah............... Your not that great of a rider. You sit way to far back in the saddle and why the hell are you leaning back? Your pumping toooooooooooooooo much with your arms!
You guys look like a great pair. I think that there was just a little bit of a driving seat, especially when you landed off a jump. I ride alot of OTTB and we use a light seat with them to jump, which seems to calm them down...but he is a really cute horse :)
You're stopping him completely with your hand. Once he softens, you aren't forgiving him with your hand so he's GOING to piss off with you. I think you should have some more jumping and flat lessons with your trainer. You guys could do really well at shows once you learn to work WITH him. You're anticipating his 'hyperness' after the fence so you slam on the brakes before he gets his balance back. He speeds up after the fence because he's unbalanced from your jerking and awkward seat.
He is merely trying to get away from you pulling on his face and slamming on his back. You need to be a softer rider...and you need to give the poor guy a release over fences. Wouldn't you bolt after a fence if your rider didn't release and tensed up on you? Work on your flatwork more; for example, circles, spirals, serpentines. Flatwork is the most important tool for anyone looking to jump. The more tense up on him, the faster he's going to go. Get a trainer.
Well dear you have a horse who loves to run. You should not alwyas make him immediately stop after a jump. One its not fair for him. And two he is just going to run more if you dont let him get out his energy. Also i would suggest junging him before you jump. Get his hyperness out. And he gets mad when you are off on your two point. He has a right to be because when you slam back down it hurts his back. You are a great rider you just want a perfect horse. You two would win everythin if you show
your a really good jumper!! but when he takes off like that loosen your reign and let him gallop for a few seconds before telling him to stop. thats the only problem i see. if you do that a few times he might stop! then you can show! i bet you'll win every time!!!
This horse is amazing and gorgeous why aren't you letting him show! There's nothing wrong with this horse. Give him some release and don't stop him every time after a jump. Lay off the poor horse.
The horse is beautiful.... Too bad the rider holds him back. He just looks fresh to me in the last part, but that's his only problem. You need to fix yourself before you can fix your horse! :)
honestly, theres not that much of a problem with the horse. its mostly you just wanting problems and seeing them because you want a perfect horse. its cool though, i am the same way. but you guys so show in jumpers, xD
stop pulling on his mouth that will only make him go faster. my trainer tells us to relaz when we ride. be a noodle. a stronger bit may also help.. if you are squeezing him with your leg also that'll make him go quicker if you are tense. just relax and feel your horse
i totally get how scary it can be when a horse takes off, it is really scary. and its totally your choice if you want to show him or not. i hate showing. your horse is gorgeous. he took off, but you stayed on great and he didn't buck or anything. a stonger bit might help, but i would first suggest doing transitions to get him to listen to your hand/seat, and maybe some poles after the jump.
Just a couple suggestions, every time he got upset it looked like you came out of half seat too soon and slammed his back. Maybe count to two after you've landed. Also he does need a little bit more release from you in the air. It looks like you anticipate the take off. And if you don't want him leaving strides out, sit and make him wait. Maybe try a little bit stronger bit if you feel uncomfortable, like a slow twist or Pelham. And he doesn't look bad to me, you could probably show him.
i don't see the problem with the horse? he's just smart. My horse is the same. It's how I learned. whenever I made a mistake, my horse would get angry and do similar things that your horse did. It forced me to fix my mistakes. Work on supporting him more and collecting him between jumps and also work on the release. :) just keep practicing. he's a good horse, he actually tells you when you do a mistake. those are the best ones.
Hey(: Mostly I jsut see you pulling on his mouth a bit. Try and sit back ni the saddle and have some contact with the reins to get him to slow down(((: And give a crest release over jumps which means stretch your arms out going over it. I practiced it so much I stretch my arms too much! Haha((:
Geez people you could just give her advice not critisize her! Man!! Don't listen to that haters. Ya'll jsut need to give her advice, instead of being so mean! Gosh...
Your horse is very pretty. I notice that your downward transitions immediately after the fences come mostly from your hands and I think this upsets your horse as you become quite strong through his mouth. You will find it helpful if you try to drive him forward to the transition with your seat and leg and use slight half halts rather than a pull. You & your horse have lots of potential and should definitely show. :)
You guys both need some training. You're holding too tight of rein. That makes him have a hard mouth and unable to listen when you ask. If you let go of his face a little bit, he would like it better. You need to learn to trust him. You're also sitting on your butt wayyyy too much! I thought you were a dressage rider at first! He needs a professional to work with him and you. My horse used to be like this and now he's almost walking up to each jump! Get a little training and you'll be awesome!
You can all see this horse is obviously very strong and can bolt off at anytime! The rider is probably ready for anything, and she has a right to be riding the way she is. It may not be the best way, but if it suits her horse than fine. I would like to see all you critters ride this horse any better!
If you are claiming that your horse is hyper... then take those spurs off!!!
That is not the best remedy for ''crazy'' horses to whack on a pair of spurs.
Also, do not ever turn your horse onto the inside of the circle to stop him from taking off, always turn to the outside to brake the canter...And like Lamya1961 said.. Try giving a bit more with your reins, i can tell from just watching the video how tense he is.
Your horse looks lovely. Have you tried taking lessons? His "hyper" really isn't bad, and you seem to be able to ride though it okay. You just seem to be a bite of a tense rider. Also, if you had a proper leg position, you wouldn't have to balance on his mouth so much. You would probably get cranky too if somebody pulled on your mouth with no release. Help him to help you.
ummm sorry but the whole no problem horses only problem riders thing doesnt always apply if you had the most perfect rider ride this guy would he go perfectly instantly? no! the truth is he is a very high energy horse the rider looks like shes holding too much contact with the reins because its hard for her to keep her seat (I KNOW BECAUSE IVE BEEN IN THE SAME SITUATION) so it not all the rider shes just trying to figure out how to contain his energy but she could try rechanneling his energy
@flyingchangeequine91 sorry ran out of room, but you can rechannel energy in a high energy horse by lunging, doing lots of flatwork with lots of changes in direction, using more combo jumps or trot poles so he can learn to slow himself down and think about what hes doing, and you could try more dressage training/bareback riding (maybe with a school horse) so you can get more comfortable with your seat and have less reliance on your hands for security (AGAIN BEEN IN THE EXACT SAME BOAT)
Well maybe you should turn him in a circle before and after the jump that is what I have to do with my pony. But on a calm day he is very nice!!! Hope this helps.
And when he takes off on your, sit back and relax and he will relax; TRUST me that's all my horse used to do.. If your tense your horse will be tense.. So just relax and sit back(:
'Let's see what he does when I make a mistake' okay; So start working on your mistakes and he won't do that, Loosen your reins, heels down.. My horse ducks out of the jumps when you aren't confident.. I now know never EVER think "OMG my horse is gonna spook" or she will! So, just talk to yourself even though it sounds funny.. Put the jumps lower and just work on your position and yourself too! Your an okay rider, and your horse is amazing! You just need some work(:
these things can happen to many riders dont feel alone! Sometimes we rely to much on our hands and not enough in our seat.If we sit down and release the grip on our knees this helps.I always correct myself on this to (I have similar problems). It helps to use outside aids and seat to help around turns. If you look up and squeze the reins on and off (instead of pulling) you typicaly can get a really nice flexion, when you get the flexion release because that lets the horse know he got it right.
Ok so first of all, ur behind the motion, having a death grip on your horses face, ur leg OMG ur heels are not even close to being down, which tells EVERY1 that u are in ur knee, and ur butting ur horse and not giving even over the Jump... that was sickining...
To alll you criticizeres ever thought that maybe her trainer tought her this way ? Have you guys ever thought about the experience shes had in shows ? So calm down its not your horse and she'll learn eventully !
If he rushes after a jump and you cannot get him to stop you need to pull his head to the left or right side so he will stop. You're letting him get away with it by not correcting it and now it'll be a game for him. I understand you had a bad saddle on the days he was hyper, but regardless you sit a little too far back in the seat. You go behind the vertical and you should be sitting straight up, but you were in time with your horse which is a good thing. Just sit up straighter.
if he rushes before or after the jump u should stop him and back up, my horse rushes before the jump so i do that and he will stay at the same speed up to a very small cross rail now :)
You're doing a lot of blaming on your horse. Your horse's personality is only ever a reflection of your own, so when you blame ourself you're blaming how you trained him and how you made him act.
Rider is behind but in time, sitting too deep for jumping. If you consider this bad behavior in a horse, ride other mounts to get a new perspective . . . otherwise . . . count your blessings and don't take anyones comments to heart. When you feel ready to show . . . you will. Good Luck and keep practicing
jeez, if you're so worried and sick of him getting speedy, look up what a "one-rein sto" is and put that inot action. Solves misbehavior quickly. Good for emergencies too :)
My pony is exactly like this. He's easy to ride on his good days, and I recently did a small county show with him in hunter, I did flat classes and 2ft, and he did pretty good. He freaked out like your horse toward the end of the video and we still got a 2nd. xP
I think your horse is perfectly fine. You 2 would do great in a jumper class. My horse's calm days are worse than your horses crazy days, soooo i think u guys should work towards a goal of competing throughout this winter
i know this is an old video, but i say do a one rein to stop, use your inside hand to pull the rein behind your leg,it works because i was on my riding instuctor's well educated gelding he'll pull some pigroots ny first time riding him Sheryl made me to canter him down the long side he did pigroots instead.
you're a good rider just dont pull on his mouth and try a different bridle he could just be grabbing the bit. you could take him to shows just do jumper instead of hunter if you can control him when he gets fast.
if she did go to show she wouldn't do very well loud hands make a loud horse i see you expect him to take off in the hyper part of the video you expect it and brace for it so when he gets you to release he does exactly what you expected him do soften your hands up and remember to use your legs other then that your a great rider, and you have a great horse, we just forget that sometimes our horses mirror us, maybe he's trying to tell you something.

I think people are being a little rough on you, you are not a bad rider. But there are some things you should work on, that's all. I would work on collecting a little more and getting your horse to come "behind" and getting him to put his energy into his hind end rather than all in his front. Practice circles and shortening and lengthining your stride. Also you said it could have been your saddle, but you have your butt tucked under you causing you to lean back. Good luck, you are not bad!!
Guys, this is her horse, she rides it the way she wants too! She doesn't give a crap about the critique! This isn't your horse, you don't know how to ride it. Just leave her ALONE! Enjoy the video what it's here for, ENTERTAINMENT purposes only. If she wanted critique, she'd ask for it!
And responding with the comment from lamya1961, not only give more release but also stay out of the saddle more because I noticed when you showed the videos at the end you would sit in the saddle early and push with your hips causing him to go faster So if you can give him a release and stay up then slowly make contact and sit when you feel relaxed enough he should respond very well And someone said something about heels leveled You should always keep your heels down that will help with balance
You need to give your horse a release when you jump. And other people commenting on this video have every right to criticize you because these tips help you become a better rider. You honestly need to ride with more of a loose rein to get yourself into the habit of giving release when you jump and it also breaks the god awful habit of you constantly jerking on your horses mouth. Your horse is perfect and theres nothing wrong with him. Let him show.
@lamya1961 i agree. no matter how mad it makes you, it makes you work harder to prove people wrong. It help me when one of my BFFs talked crap about how i sucked at barrel racing yet i won the silver buckle series, all the highpoints of the day and year end high pooint. but its now pushing me to get better. you look great just loosen up a little on the rein so your horse can stretch out his head.
not trying to sound meann or anything but you need to give him some slack on the reigns. and there's nothing wrong with your horse. either you trained him wrong or your the problem.
I don't know if anyone has told you this but there's a few ways to fix that:
1) lunge when he is full of beans
2) when he takes off like that turn him in tight circles
He seems like a fine horse you just need to be negative when he takes off, even if you roll him back against the rail (obviously away from the jump :P ) you will have less problems. I used to train pleasure horses and my first one liked to take off, eventually I had it so if I ran him in a field as soon as I said stop he would.
SHE ISNT PULLING!!!!! she is making her horse give to the bit, or setting the head in other terms. its advanced and it looks way better than a floppy neck
@ShatterdGlassStudio well actually, im not trying to be mean but i totally agree with equine247. you arent supposed to push your heels down very ar if you are a little more advanded. and she isnt pulling, she is setting his head, or giving to the bit. its hard, but she can do it!
@ShatterdGlassStudio not tryingto sound mean but once you're a bit more advanced and know your horse you don't need to push your heels down really far, but instead think off pushing on the ball of your feet in the stirrup.
dont pull so hard on his mouth poor thing and dont lean back so far it puts pressure in his back.... bolting might be because of the pressure on his teeth so every time you pull it really hurts..... he might need his teeth floated you should get them checked:)
this horse just isn't a good match for you. It seems like you're not even trying to fix whats going wrong. You know that your horse will try to bolt after a jump, so be ready. Maybe he doesn't even like jumping. You may not be a western person, but try barrel racing. It seems like your horse enjoys running. Another solution is trying to tell your horse what to do with your seat. Your not telling him to whoa with your seat. Which is what a lot of horses respond to as well as the bit.
Hes beautiful, every horse has its ticks. its possible that if the saddle is a bad fit for you- its a bad fit for him. pinching can cause your pony to send you flying as well.. hes really beautiful though
wow, that horse doesnt do anything really wrong. if he takes off like that hang on with your knees and thighs and if you have to grip his mane, its not that hard. i have a morgan mare myself and i was jumping her today and she didnt do anything like that she was a hot sucker tho. so yea just hang on!
this would be a nice horse if he had the right rider or trainer, this horse on his "hyper" days make my just broke green horses look like they just broke from hell, il trade you
Your horse is a gorgeous mover!! You do pull on his mouth though. And his "bad behavior" really isn't that bad... I've seen worse! I would suggest also doing some ground work with him (lunge lining, or just playing around in a round pen or pasture.) You might just have to work on your bond some more. I would definitely show him thought once you work it out, can you say blue ribbons??
okay well first of all I watched this video twice and I relized that you pull to hard on his mouth and are not giving him a crest release. Don't let him take off wherever he wants give him a half halt RIDE WOMEN. and don't land so hard on his back it probably hurts, he may have a bad back.
One thing that i think is really important to keep in your mind when you loose control over a horse is that it's not a bike!
When you want to stop him, use the out rein much more than the inner, beaucouse if you do it the wrong way the horse has no balance and can in worse case fall!
You're supposed to keep contact on the reins, not pull them so hard that not only the horse knows you're there, but he doesn't like that fact! To calm him down on a hyper day, have you ever just walked around on a loose rein for a few minutes just singing songs to calm him down? It helps with Pogo. :)
Following reins, hands on the withers, and MOST importantly, stop asking him to come round when he is obviously not ready for it. He's high spirited and just like my horse, but I can keep her under control, as long as I read into her. Know your horse more that you know yourself.
&& Also when i go and see my horse i go there alone and i dont fress as fancy as possible as if i was going to a horse show. I would go there groom her and talk to her put her tack on , ride her go on a trail go back take her tack off groom her .. Clrean out her hooves , brush her tail comepletly , trim her main , feed her treat & treat her new tricks and stay with her for hours. I bet you don't do that with your horse ..:(
I don't know it seems as if your relationship with your horse is very low it seems as if he is just one of those horses you buy and board at a astable. And on ever saturday at aroung 9 am someone grooms your horse , puts all the tack on & he is ready to go. And you ride him for about what an hour? and then you cool him off bring him in the barn and then you leave and have them take the tack off.
to much hand! ANd hanging. That is the root of your problem. This horse is VERY tolerant!
You correct and then RELEASE this horse gets no release so he is RUNNING from YOUR hands! And IF you need to use a strong hand you must ALWAYS match it EQUALLY with leg! Pulling = dragging him onto the forhand and his back end gets more and more strung out. Equal leg = keeping his hindquarters under him.
You need some serious lessons, and if you already have a trainer - you need a new one ASAP!
lol i actual love it when people comment correctiong your riding on this kind off horse coz i don't think they relise that it you didn't pull back then the horse would just keep going XD my horse it like this exept she has a sensitive mouth so i can't nothin about it :L:L good job :)
@mrscozzaindahouse yes but if you would let the horse move more freely instead of costantly yanking back on his face then he would be more willing to do what you ask, its a give and take kind of thing.
I like the horse! but when you get to strong in your hand, and don't let go, the horse will only push harder in your hands. and it's a horse so he'll always win. than you can try little pinch in your hands beceause a horse reacts to that :) and allways use your outside hand.
dont pull on him so hard and try to let him go to pasture or the vet because I think it herts when you go back but mostly you are pooling way to hard.
Haha. My horse does the same thinggg. He's such a brat. But what we do is just ALOT of flatwork! Like everyday, for at least an hour. He also had a stronger bit in so maybe that would help you? I'm not sure. Other then that hes gorgeous! And your a great rider, but like most of the videos say.. Maybe just try to lighten your seat because you do sit quite deep which encourages a horse to move forward. You can also do alot of half halts and transitions. It gets them paying attention to you(:
also control to the jump check release it get his mind thinking bout u also try just poles on the ground and mix up the patterns like figure 8 could in the middle first trot them and stop then trot again stop then change do the same thing this will help to learn to listen to u also u could do 2 sets of pole set up like a line and make him stay straight take a lil feel of his mouth with out pulling just a lil check and release over the jump/ pole & once he gets used to trotting pols canter them
u need a stronger bit and softer with ur hands......plus u lean to far back and push him with ur seat rather then when hes being good lean just a lil forward just enough where ur off hes back but still hav control for the bit try a full cheek with a martingale that will restrain him from bolting
You said it yourself... "what he does when YOU make a mistake". All of "his" issues are your fault. You seem to be pretty unbalanced and rely on your hands for security. No horse should be required to tolerate that. You're the one that doesn't need to be going to shows, not him.
I good proper rider would not be afraid of his/her horse because the horse bolts a good rider would know to turn the horse in a cirly right away... Plus are pulling way to hard on your horses mouth & Like @dance2horses said his back could be sore cause you seem to be a " sloppy" rider ... Not sitting in your seat properly , chiken arms .. pullin on the reins too hard etc..
My horse acted like this as a result of a fracture of his ilium- he would be unable to slow down, heavy on his forehand, so it LOOKED like he was bolting, but really he just couldn't get his hind end back underneath him in order to slow down. Looks like an injury rather than a behavioral issue.
If he's hard on the bit change to a stronger bit until he respects it. and for showing just tag him along and get him used to it maybe take him to a small show and do the flat classes. When he takes off circle him, half halts, sit back and tell him no; also take off your spurs from what I can tell you don`t need them on the other hand your trainer may think you do,, but I would take them off for a week or 2 just to see how he is. Just really try a stronger bit he might respect it and your hands.
spurs in his side.. ide run to! Try trusting your horse more (it'll help you not constintly pull on his mouth) and beleave me, i know what its like to be strong handed, i have the same problem, especialy when they hang on your hand. and try not constintly trying to put him 'on the bit', it will come naturaly when he is on ALL of your Aids
yep, leaning back too far, too strong in hand. Softness, suppleness, encourage this horse to take the reins from you in a long deep stretch down occasionally rather than holding his head "in frame" all the time. Extend him a little, then collect back. Transitions, patterns, always keep his mind engaged, and if he has an off-day where dressage isn't his thing, go for a trail ride and let him loose a little.
When he bolts squeeze him on then he will get confused and stop - Stronger bit needed & Correctly fitting saddle !

@horsey4u1234 You mean pull release right? Not sesawing......because id'e have to internet scream at you if you considered that helpfull advice. Thats "How to ruin your horse in the quickest way" advice.
JasperIsaLittleHorse 3 weeks ago
@JasperIsaLittleHorse not roughly! and yes, pulling and releasing would be great to!
horsey4u1234 3 weeks ago
@horsey4u1234 Sesawing is never the right answer, not even lightly, it should never be done. If you want your horse to stop you use a low pull in and realse then repeat. I tried sesawing a litle once JUST to see if all those "I've had lessons for years it's the only thing that works." people are right. It didn't do anything but hurt my horse. His head came up he went faster, he was in pain and iv'e never ever used pain and never will again. Don't sesaw.
JasperIsaLittleHorse 3 weeks ago
@JasperIsaLittleHorse
Ok well maybe your horse doesnt like it, and no, sesawing is not the only thing that works. On my horse, a light pull and release will get her to slow down and that works absolutly fine. Maybe you should let go of ur horses mouth, and maybe you do now! and if u do now then thats great (: because i no everyone makes mistakes and this was 4 years ago!
horsey4u1234 3 weeks ago
@horsey4u1234 Um...I'm not touching my horse's mouth. I just know that sesawing is the best way to ruin a horse, not just that mine dosn't like it. But it's an awfull way to try to make your horse listen, it's made more horses buck people off and make them rear over on top of more people than any other method iv'e seen, even digging spurs into a horse's side doesn't do as much damage as sesawing.

if you really think the Bipolar is bad well maybe somthing is stressing him, you should try starting him in Natural Horsemanship as well as work with him jumping, believe me Natural Horsemanship works wonders.
Roanhorselover 1 month ago
Not to be mean but honest. When wearing spurs you have to really push your heal down or the horse wont like it very much. You need to be less stiff with your body, sit up, push your heals down and ride. If you do this i bet it would help. Most of the things your horse is reacting about is because of your actions! Dont take this as mean but informative!
equestrian978 1 month ago
it looks like something is hurting him on his "bipolar" days, horses rarely do anything without a reason.

Kidrock19911 1 month ago
You guys look like a great pair. I think that there was just a little bit of a driving seat, especially when you landed off a jump. I ride alot of OTTB and we use a light seat with them to jump, which seems to calm them down...but he is a really cute horse :)
puck4life 1 month ago
You're stopping him completely with your hand. Once he softens, you aren't forgiving him with your hand so he's GOING to piss off with you. I think you should have some more jumping and flat lessons with your trainer. You guys could do really well at shows once you learn to work WITH him. You're anticipating his 'hyperness' after the fence so you slam on the brakes before he gets his balance back. He speeds up after the fence because he's unbalanced from your jerking and awkward seat.
MyDivineEquine 1 month ago
He is merely trying to get away from you pulling on his face and slamming on his back. You need to be a softer rider...and you need to give the poor guy a release over fences. Wouldn't you bolt after a fence if your rider didn't release and tensed up on you? Work on your flatwork more; for example, circles, spirals, serpentines. Flatwork is the most important tool for anyone looking to jump. The more tense up on him, the faster he's going to go. Get a trainer.

michellenn93 1 month ago 24
Well dear you have a horse who loves to run. You should not alwyas make him immediately stop after a jump. One its not fair for him. And two he is just going to run more if you dont let him get out his energy. Also i would suggest junging him before you jump. Get his hyperness out. And he gets mad when you are off on your two point. He has a right to be because when you slam back down it hurts his back. You are a great rider you just want a perfect horse. You two would win everythin if you show
tacoqueen16 1 month ago
your a really good jumper!! but when he takes off like that loosen your reign and let him gallop for a few seconds before telling him to stop. thats the only problem i see. if you do that a few times he might stop! then you can show! i bet you'll win every time!!!

ExtraLittleThings 1 month ago
stop pulling on his mouth that will only make him go faster. my trainer tells us to relaz when we ride. be a noodle. a stronger bit may also help.. if you are squeezing him with your leg also that'll make him go quicker if you are tense. just relax and feel your horse
kungerr5683 1 month ago
i totally get how scary it can be when a horse takes off, it is really scary. and its totally your choice if you want to show him or not. i hate showing. your horse is gorgeous. he took off, but you stayed on great and he didn't buck or anything. a stonger bit might help, but i would first suggest doing transitions to get him to listen to your hand/seat, and maybe some poles after the jump.
pawsshls 1 month ago
beautiful horse, just a suggestion, use draw reins?
NYcitygirl13 1 month ago

Haha((:

spurrit 1 month ago
Your horse is very pretty. I notice that your downward transitions immediately after the fences come mostly from your hands and I think this upsets your horse as you become quite strong through his mouth. You will find it helpful if you try to drive him forward to the transition with your seat and leg and use slight half halts rather than a pull. You & your horse have lots of potential and should definitely show. :)
DavedeM69 1 month ago
You guys both need some training. You're holding too tight of rein. That makes him have a hard mouth and unable to listen when you ask. If you let go of his face a little bit, he would like it better. You need to learn to trust him. You're also sitting on your butt wayyyy too much! I thought you were a dressage rider at first! He needs a professional to work with him and you. My horse used to be like this and now he's almost walking up to each jump! Get a little training and you'll be awesome!
MileyJonas 1 month ago
You can all see this horse is obviously very strong and can bolt off at anytime! The rider is probably ready for anything, and she has a right to be riding the way she is. It may not be the best way, but if it suits her horse than fine. I would like to see all you critters ride this horse any better!
Ignore them, beau of a horse btw! :D
JumpingJigsaw 1 month ago
Look at all comments positively,
If you are claiming that your horse is hyper... then take those spurs off!!!
That is not the best remedy for ''crazy'' horses to whack on a pair of spurs.
Also, do not ever turn your horse onto the inside of the circle to stop him from taking off, always turn to the outside to brake the canter...And like Lamya1961 said.. Try giving a bit more with your reins, i can tell from just watching the video how tense he is.
equitationmatters 1 month ago
Hmmm I think it might just be user errors.
gEtoVer1T1 1 month ago
Your horse looks lovely. Have you tried taking lessons? His "hyper" really isn't bad, and you seem to be able to ride though it okay. You just seem to be a bite of a tense rider. Also, if you had a proper leg position, you wouldn't have to balance on his mouth so much. You would probably get cranky too if somebody pulled on your mouth with no release. Help him to help you.

Equestrian08 1 month ago
ummm sorry but the whole no problem horses only problem riders thing doesnt always apply if you had the most perfect rider ride this guy would he go perfectly instantly? no! the truth is he is a very high energy horse the rider looks like shes holding too much contact with the reins because its hard for her to keep her seat (I KNOW BECAUSE IVE BEEN IN THE SAME SITUATION) so it not all the rider shes just trying to figure out how to contain his energy but she could try rechanneling his energy
flyingchangeequine91 1 month ago
@flyingchangeequine91 sorry ran out of room, but you can rechannel energy in a high energy horse by lunging, doing lots of flatwork with lots of changes in direction, using more combo jumps or trot poles so he can learn to slow himself down and think about what hes doing, and you could try more dressage training/bareback riding (maybe with a school horse) so you can get more comfortable with your seat and have less reliance on your hands for security (AGAIN BEEN IN THE EXACT SAME BOAT)
flyingchangeequine91 1 month ago
its you who has the problem not the horse you look way to tense when riding. no horse problems only people problems. think like a horse

these things can happen to many riders dont feel alone!

And responding with the comment from lamya1961, not only give more release but also stay out of the saddle more because I noticed when you showed the videos at the end you would sit in the saddle early and push with your hips causing him to go faster So if you can give him a release and stay up then slowly make contact and sit when you feel relaxed enough he should respond very well And someone said something about heels leveled You should always keep your heels down that will help with balance
ohmyhi 2 months ago
You need to give your horse a release when you jump. And other people commenting on this video have every right to criticize you because these tips help you become a better rider. You honestly need to ride with more of a loose rein to get yourself into the habit of giving release when you jump and it also breaks the god awful habit of you constantly jerking on your horses mouth. Your horse is perfect and theres nothing wrong with him. Let him show.

I used to train pleasure horses and my first one liked to take off, eventually I had it so if I ran him in a field as soon as I said stop he would.

dont pull so hard on his mouth poor thing and dont lean back so far it puts pressure in his back.... bolting might be because of the pressure on his teeth so every time you pull it really hurts..... he might need his teeth floated you should get them checked:)
horsesforlife96 2 months ago
this horse just isn't a good match for you.

One thing that i think is really important to keep in your mind when you loose control over a horse is that it's not a bike!
When you want to stop him, use the out rein much more than the inner, beaucouse if you do it the wrong way the horse has no balance and can in worse case fall!
But he still looks like a nice horse!! :)
mantu123100 2 months ago
His back hurts.
pegasus75068 2 months ago

You need to let him run if he needs to. I really don't see anything bad in this video on his part.

to much hand!
You need some serious lessons, and if you already have a trainer - you need a new one ASAP!

lol i actual love it when people comment correctiong your riding on this kind off horse coz i don't think they relise that it you didn't pull back then the horse would just keep going XD my horse it like this exept she has a sensitive mouth so i can't nothin about it :L:L good job :)
mrscozzaindahouse 2 months ago
@mrscozzaindahouse yes but if you would let the horse move more freely instead of costantly yanking back on his face then he would be more willing to do what you ask, its a give and take kind of thing.

Hmmm... doesn't seem like it's the horse's fault. With some work and a more experienced rider he could do really well at shows.

I like the horse! but when you get to strong in your hand, and don't let go, the horse will only push harder in your hands. and it's a horse so he'll always win. than you can try little pinch in your hands beceause a horse reacts to that :) and allways use your outside hand.

and NEVER use a crop on him when you go over a fence thats just sad
horselover150515 2 months ago
dont pull on him so hard and try to let him go to pasture or the vet because I think it herts when you go back but mostly you are pooling way to hard.
horselover150515 2 months ago
It gets them paying attention to you(:
crazyness525 2 months ago
also control to the jump check release it get his mind thinking bout u also try just poles on the ground and mix up the patterns like figure 8 could in the middle first trot them and stop then trot again stop then change do the same thing this will help to learn to listen to u also u could do 2 sets of pole set up like a line and make him stay straight take a lil feel of his mouth with out pulling just a lil check and release over the jump/ pole & once he gets used to trotting pols canter them
leashy328 2 months ago
u need a stronger bit and softer with ur hands......plus u lean to far back and push him with ur seat rather then when hes being good lean just a lil forward just enough where ur off hes back but still hav control for the bit try a full cheek with a martingale that will restrain him from bolting
leashy328 2 months ago
You said it yourself... "what he does when YOU make a mistake". All of "his" issues are your fault. You seem to be pretty unbalanced and rely on your hands for security. No horse should be required to tolerate that. You're the one that doesn't need to be going to shows, not him.

my horses act worse than that sometimes but I still show them becaues most of the time there better at shows...

CheyZenaxx 2 months ago
My horse acted like this as a result of a fracture of his ilium- he would be unable to slow down, heavy on his forehand, so it LOOKED like he was bolting, but really he just couldn't get his hind end back underneath him in order to slow down. Looks like an injury rather than a behavioral issue.
penthilisea 2 months ago
If he's hard on the bit change to a stronger bit until he respects it. and for showing just tag him along and get him used to it maybe take him to a small show and do the flat classes. When he takes off circle him, half halts, sit back and tell him no; also take off your spurs from what I can tell you don`t need them on the other hand your trainer may think you do,, but I would take them off for a week or 2 just to see how he is. Just really try a stronger bit he might respect it and your hands.
Mav123454 2 months ago
spurs in his side.. ide run to! Try trusting your horse more (it'll help you not constintly pull on his mouth) and beleave me, i know what its like to be strong handed, i have the same problem, especialy when they hang on your hand. and try not constintly trying to put him 'on the bit', it will come naturaly when he is on ALL of your Aids

outside rein?
DrakestownEquestrian 2 months ago
yep, leaning back too far, too strong in hand.

And this, ladies and gentleman, is what happens when you hang on a horse's mouth.
