He's aware, interactive, and able to project emotions of others. He's very high function. So, he's being a snot and needed to be sent to the principal's office. He refused to leave, and started talking back, by his own admission.

The proper thing would have been to have an assistant coach take him down to the principal's office. If there was no assistant coach, the officer could have escorted him.

Physical restraints would have been warranted only if he physically resisted the escort.

I had a freakishly similar experience at a concert, and it wasn't even a cop. It was a steroid freak bouncer wannabe-cop. Everybody (including the band I was going to see; who I couldn't get to see perform) played blame-the-victim, and the guys in the band actually convinced me not to call the cops.

Well, pardon my haste. I dont mean to be so judgemental... I just work with a large autistic population in my county and sometimes the diagnosis is incorrect. In fact, often times when the parents of our students recieve general parental training, iit imporves (if not eliminates) a big portion of autistic behaviors. Some of these students are seen as cured.

The way I see it, high functing autistic students are sometimes enabled to act worse because they're percieved as not having any control

The school tried to cover up their abusive action by stating, "The officer's actions helped to maintain a safe atmosphere for the other 30 students in the class." I don't see a problem with officers usuing handcuffs on childred that are out of control as they do pose a threat to themselves and everyone else. However, it certainly appears that this was going way to far particularly since there was a plan of action in case there was a problem with this child and that plan was not followed.
