Autistic children have many issues that people who have "normal" children couldn't even begin to fathom what it is like. Try doing your research about Autism BEFORE you make your comments that make you sound like a moron.

You know something this pisses me of i have never been handcuffed but i got autism and i have been in a spot that was not helping and scared me. I never went back. I think teachers need to start understanding how you work with us and how to not handel things in a way autistics have that shut down.
It's a clear example of singling out a person with aspergers because they know he's aspergers, they don't understand it, they handle the situation in an inappropriate way because they don't understand.

Never underestimate what your autism can do to fuck you over. And NEVER underestimate how far out of their way people will go NOT to accommodate you.
this is actuley very offensive to me because my cousin is autistic and i visit him and his sister at least once a year and he acts very idk freeminded he does what he wants when he wasnt and never gets in trouble because people know its not really his fault but this pisses me off because this kids much more calm but got in trouble so i think this kids old teacher should be singled out and handcuffed for going la la la in a class of loud people
@BakuMamX So do I - most autistic students who sing at inopportune times, like at PE, can't tell the flutin' difference between chorus and gym class! He was just trying to cope with all the sensory overload! wish those cops and the coach would accept that fact!
Ok to call a police officer to take a kid out was over the line, but you have to ask, why a teacher have to call a police officer to do that?, because they are powerless against this kids, they cannot do anything to them anymore, if a teacher tells you to get out, you have to get out, but no, this kid did not wanted to, but since the teacher cannot do anything to remove this kid from there and the parents dont teach him what respect is, well someone else will have to control the situation.
He is Autistic??? ..I see nothing wrong with him! =\
Uh anyway! I'm just shock at the amount of videos that I'm watching of kids getting handcuffed because of something small. And not only this kid has a disability that just fucking wrong. This needs to be put to a stop!
Parents are stupid, probably looking for a hand out. And if that kid really thinks being put in handcuffs is why the kids make fun of him, he has a lot of learning to do. In reality some autistic yelling and kicking will probably mean no kid is going to say shit to you for the rest of the year.
@felixpetrar I'm on the autism spectrum, and I'm concerned (to some extent) about how others see me. We're not completely oblivious. Some of us may seem to care more or less than others.
He probably is Autistic...just high functioning. I am Autistic and from personal experience, you tend to be discriminated against and misunderstood when you have a disabilty. The problem with having it mildly is that it sometimes dosen't occur to people that you have a problem. Sometimes people in authority view Autistic individuals as disrespectful. It's hard to live with that kind of mistreatment.
Well, pardon my haste. I dont mean to be so judgemental... I just work with a large autistic population in my county and sometimes the diagnosis is incorrect. In fact, often times when the parents of our students recieve general parental training, iit imporves (if not eliminates) a big portion of autistic behaviors. Some of these students are seen as cured.
The way I see it, high functing autistic students are sometimes enabled to act worse because they're percieved as not having any control
BULLSHIT. They are being used more commonly. This country is turning fasist. Our rights are being ignored. And we are having power hungry offices going out nuts
The teacher and cop preferred bullying a student into compliance rather than adhering to the behaviour support plan for this autistic student. The school tried to cover up their abusive action by stating, "The officer's actions helped to maintain a safe atmosphere for the other 30 students in the class." I say BULLSHIT, you just failed Media Relations class! The student at no time put the other students in an "unsafe" atmosphere with his singing. It's time some adults were held ACCOUNTABLE.

Listen to the video again, they mention the behaviour support plan (obtained by the reporter) and it does NOT advocate the use of physical force. How should we deal with misbehaving ADULTS who don't follow written procedures? Maybe we should taser them into compliance! Yeah, General Zod is all for that! Especially when the adults later LIE by claiming Gunnar created an unsafe atmosphere by...singing!
This is why in the UK children like this can go to a different school for children with disabilities my brother did he didn't go to the same schools as me because you can't expect people to tolerate it because people are frightened of anything different and they react irrational under threat. If people feel threatened by someone different they don't act like the would with anyone who had no disability. So my brother was sent to a school that can cope with it. Common sense, crap parenting
In america we do have schools like that but they've gone "out of style." Parents now a days say they would rather their child grow up being around everyone else because thats life. They wont grow up and be surrounded by special needs people, so why go to a school with them? Also say someone isnt so much special needs but theyre surrounded by alot of high special needs kids, they might grow up thinking it was acceptable behavior. this kid is a high functioning autistic, he'll have a normal life
This is nothing but abuse of power. The police officer admitted this boy didn't threaten her or the other students. The gym teacher should be fired. The San Jose Unified SchoolDistrict are cowards. That's why they responded with a written statement instead of talking on camera.
the kid did nothing wrong, everyone else was loud in that room and yet he is the only 1 who is handcuffed and taken away, fuck you cops, fuck you teachers, fuck all of you corrupt bastards
Actually the classroom was pretty silent... (I was in his class) It was only this one annoying dude who kept making noise (He has some sort of mental disease as well I forgot what, but its not that severe) Mr. Walker (the p.e teacher) sent him outside. Gunnar refused to. the teacher gave him a couple more warnings and he still refused. Eventually Mr. Walker got a cop which I think was just to scare Gunnar and make him listen but Gunnar also refused. Eventually the cop threatened Gunnar with the
handcuffs. Gunnar STILL refused. Eventually the cop, not going back on her word, handcuffed him and I forgot where she/he sent him. I can't remember that well
seems like the main thing the kids need protection from at this point is over zealous power hungry teachers and cops.
that having been said, if those parents are not repbulicans, at least lets say i hope that this happens to many more children of republican parents in the futre. who knows maybe one of them wakes the fuck up.
the cop did use excessive force, but even though people are autistic, there shouldn't be a law saying that you have to let them go because they are autistic. being autistic explains behavior, not excuse it
Wow seriously wdf being handcuffed by a police for singing in class, who ever that gym teacher was she must seriously be a bitch. P.S, I am autistic too and I am 15.
@67garyhatesyou No not really ...."normal" people should understand aspies....im one and i think that as we cant help th way we are you lot of normal dull 1dimensial minded faggots should go seek help, obviously theres the nice ones who do th ryt stuff and do their best to get to kno us and our needs these ppl are well respecyed...the pll who need to ne locke dfrom normal society are like woman beaters, peados rapists and murderers...FACT! so run away and never troll on here again arse wipe!
@kaihiwatari111 hey CUNT HOLE. you should go kill yerself. end of story. You are a strain on parents & the TAX paying public. KILL YERSELF NOW CUNT! We who can get a job, & can contribute to society are DAMN SICK of ASPIE FUCKTARDS FUCKING UP OUR PLANET! God hates you, that's why yer a godamn tard. yer a fuckin' plague, & I have the cure. DIE CUNT! DIE. I promise you, I would kill every aspie one of you if I could. Shitty no-life retards. fuck off & die bitch.
@67garyhatesyou well ive came to the conclusion that you are completly contradicting yourself and you are on fact , the FREAK here....what you do for a living .....beat women up? Rape people.....or even worse shag animals that cant defend them selves....you gotta remember a lot of masterminds Like Einstein , Bill Gates , Satoshi Tajiri and Mozart also have/had Aspergers so were NOT blow anyone . If you dont like what im saying then u kno wer the back door is you spastic HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
@67garyhatesyou OH yh i bet ur really jealous as well .......Us aspies arnt retarded as we have good or great intelligence......bet u have no friends either cuz u hate em you woman beater lol....I know y dont you hang out with CopperCab now lol he wants to be ur friends as i bet ur a fat greasy ginger like him and have no soul lol
maybe there is more to this news story, but...i didnt see them say he was autistic, however i didnt see him do anything wrong to put handcuffs on a 6th grader. MIST001 when you say the police are fucking retarded what kind of message do you think you send to the kids at that school is now scared to go back to. IM NOT defending the officer, but you yourself are out of line.
and once again we should hate the fucking police there retarded i mean sure we need them to be safe but to arrest a kid for singing in gym thats just fucked up
Not more of this stuff!! Its just happening over and over!! What is wrong with a country that treats its children like this? It would be ok if they were crims. Lots of them are not!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I don't see a problem with officers usuing handcuffs on childred that are out of control as they do pose a threat to themselves and everyone else. However, it certainly appears that this was going way to far particularly since there was a plan of action in case there was a problem with this child and that plan was not followed.
I hope that P.E. teacher got fired!!!

your an idiot, were you in the fucking room when it happened? how the fuck would you know if he did or didnt do anything wrong
Teke600 2 years ago
well thats fuck-merica for you kids
seems like the main thing the kids need protection from at this point is over zealous power hungry teachers and cops.
that having been said, if those parents are not repbulicans, at least lets say i hope that this happens to many more children of republican parents in the futre. who knows maybe one of them wakes the fuck up.

the cop did use excessive force, but even though people are autistic, there shouldn't be a law saying that you have to let them go because they are autistic. being autistic explains behavior, not excuse it

This kid probably has a higher IQ than the cop who handcuffed him.

@PowerAndPerception If he has Asperger's Syndrome, it's 80% likely he's much more intelligent then that failure of an excuse for an officer. xP

maybe there is more to this news story, but...i didnt see them say he was autistic, however i didnt see him do anything wrong to put handcuffs on a 6th grader. MIST001 when you say the police are fucking retarded what kind of message do you think you send to the kids at that school is now scared to go back to. IM NOT defending the officer, but you yourself are out of line.

"The officer's actions helped to maintain order, and blah blah blah..."
Handcuffing a kid...right. Because a child going "Lalala" in gym class is SOOOOOO dangerous. This really makes me angry...
All jeering sarcasm aside, the "officer's" actions were atrocious and unnecessary, and will only serve to make him distrustful of the police.

I'm actually in his P.E class and it was really weird... I've heard that he's home schooled now or he moved to another school.

Not more of this stuff!! Its just happening over and over!! What is wrong with a country that treats its children like this? It would be ok if they were crims. Lots of them are not!!

I don't see a problem with officers usuing handcuffs on childred that are out of control as they do pose a threat to themselves and everyone else. However, it certainly appears that this was going way to far particularly since there was a plan of action in case there was a problem with this child and that plan was not followed.
