  • O heilige Gooooooooooootter!!!! Wonderful, priceless.

  • I have heard the Solti Decca recording about a hundred times and this is that recording. Same inflections, same tempo, same everyting.it is not Bohm and anyone who insists it is should have thier ears examined.

  • Next time you try to pass off some hackjob of yours as a genuine thing, you might want to try syncing video and sound better.

  • This is a "video" lip-synced to the Solti studio recording. It is Solti, it is Solti, it is not Boehm, it is Solti, Solti. Nilsson's C on the live Boehm is not held this long. This is the famous Decca recording from 1962. STOP SAYING THIS IS LIVE WITH BOEHM. It is not.

  • I wasn't knocking Wind. but Wieland Wagner who wnted to get away from the Melchior, Lorenz type of tenor. Wind. was a very good lyrico/spinto tenor, just listen to his Walter but the heavy stuff wasn't for him. Maybe you forget that Hopf sang the Siegfrieds in the early '60's. Many in German say Wielnd ruined the Wagner tenor for yrs., I agree. Don't let the "live" '66 Tristan fool you. That was recorded over a 3 day period bec. Wind. couldn't do & it was only 1966.

  • To All. That is Solti's and Vienna Decca studio recording of May and November 1964, Sofien Sale, Vienna, Austria. John Culshaw Producer.

This is not the original movie sound from the film. It's a kind of "insert" or "dubbing" sound, using Solti's recording.

    Bohm and Bayreuth is faster.

  • This is BÖHM's, BAYREUTH 1967. Why people continue answering questions they don't know?

Siegfried, in both Siegfried and Götterdämmerung, is perhaps the most valuable role Windgassen covered (and this is saying something, considering Windgassen totally dominated the scene from 1951 to 1970), he was a revolution!

What's the problem with the other commentators? Melchior? Oh please.

  • Nope not Solti. It's from Bayreuth & Solti conducted the Ring there in '83, the Centennial of Wagner's death. Birgit left Bayreuth years before. Besides Melchior don't forget Max Lorenz or Hans Hopf. Birgit sang the 1960 Ring in Bay. with Hopf. At least he could keep up with her. Wind. was servicable but was a creation of Wieland Wagner & set back Heldentenors for yrs. Wind. was a very good lyric tenor but didn't have the pipes for the heavy roles. He lasted only one yr at the Met.

  • @BUTCHIE20100

Windgassen spent his life at Bayreuth until his retirement and never ever had the intention to steadily sing at the Met. I can't understand "he didn't have the pipes for the heavy roles", since he sang them for almost 19 years and being universally acclaimed for that.

  • who directed this production/telecast? the cinematic style actually reminds me of Karajan's rheingold movie.

  • Windgassen is a lightweight..the only heldentenor qualified to sing with Nilsson is Melchior....

  • i'm a brunhilde whore...i <3 them all

  • Definitely the Solti. Wish I'd seen Nilsson as for me she is unsurpassable. Performed in the orchestra with Theorin, Hunter and Evans who were excellent, but Birgit tops the lot!

  • @Disley74

Definitely? Definitely not, that's clearly not a studio recording. It's Böhm from Bayreuth.

  • do you have any more vids on the ring feat. nilsson

  • What a voice. One of the greats.

  • The costumes are a real bore. Windgassen isn't the greatest actor. But Nilsson looks so silky and their singing is absolutely AWESOME!!

  • Magnificent.

  • The greatest voices but they look costumed for Tamino and Pamina. (No closeups for opera singers!!! Love the tangerine lips from the late 60's. LOL.)

  • The greatest voices but they look costumed for Tamino and Pamina. (No closeups for opera singers!!!)

  • I think this is the Vienna Phil and Solti, right?

  • @rkwittem Yep

  • @rkwittem

    No, it's Böhm's.

  • I always love Birgits high Cs, So pristine and on the mark.

  • My God, the woman is a force of nature! If only the master interpreter Windgassen had had Vickers' power.

  • I had the great luck of seeing these two many times in Vienna and Bayreuth. Always totally thrilling.

  • This miracle went on for as long as I sung onstage...

  • Wow, I've never seen this before! Windgassen kind of looks like he's wearing pajamas, but awesome nonetheless.

  • We do not have singers like this with the power ro the energy yet alone the size and the weight of these 2 spectaculure voices!!!

  • @Operaman41 Now all we get at the MET is 'smoke and mirrors'... what a sad mess.

  • Go whistle in the dark.Genius.lol

  • Parasite, why you upload one with better sound?

  • They are lip-synching to the famous recording they made with Solti and the Vienna Philharmonic. This is NOT a live soundtrack.

  • @melbapatti

It's live and it's Böhm from Bayreuth.

  • @Ngheghe I don't think Bayreuth's stage setting looked this good if the pictures on the CD cover is any indication.

  • May be originally sound is Bohn?

  • No. Solti and Vienna.

  • @Shoshas

That's not Solti and that's not Vienna. Does it look like a studio? That's Böhm's.

  • Original sound would be nice instead of over-dubbing, but thanks for this anyway!

  • Might we find a best couple? I don't think so.

  • meraviglioso!!!!

  • What a find! This is superb!

  • Wolfgang Windgassen is the best Siegfried ever!

  • @Fafner79 I agree. The best voice ever for Wagner. Young, fresh but strong and with character!!

  • Birgit Nilsson is the Godess of the Ring

  • For me she is the Godess of the Ring

  • I'm sorry but the bad lip-synching makes this a travesty.

  • Has anyone noticed that this video is dubbed? The recording is the Solti "Gotterdammerung" on Decca.

  • YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS I noticed in the first second.

  • I'm joking. Notice the tongue-in-cheek icon?

As if Nilsson could be doubted for not having enough voice.

  • Thanks for posting this!

  • Her voice is too small for this. She should have stuck to doing Musetta and Manon.

    Tongue-in-cheek. :P

    Me likey Nilsson.

  • First of all, this is nonsense. A have been to many of Nilssons performances and you where lucky if the roof of the opera stayed on, if she sang (and that´s from vienna). second of all, she wanted to sing something worth performing

  • Absolutely, Barbarina is more of her thing
