Al Franken voted to make the US a battleground. Also, so that the military can take anyone in the US, arrest them without charge and keep them forever. No court date ever, no charge ever. Just imprisoned because someone says so. Al Franken voted for this law. 1867.
Godamn, Franken delivers hilarious punch-lines like "I really, really... admire the senator from Iowa" with absolute perfect deadpan. My single favorite thing about him, though, is every time you hear him talk he takes the most common sense, no-bullshit approach to the problem and avoids the overly rhetoric. He's not interested in tip-toeing in the interest of being "dignified", we need more regular people like him in Congress.
Franken rules. We need more comedy writers in congress, and yes, I'm serious. You have to be 1 cynical and 2 knowledgeable to write comedy successfully. Washington needs a lot more of both.
Time and again, he's called out the Rethuglicans when they blatantly just made up bullshit because in their own fantasies that's how things are. The Rethugs just consider truth and facts to be mere trivial concerns.
19th century America, women could vote or even sue in court. They and their children were owned by the man of the house. Ah marriage, a noble institution.............for the man with money, indeed.
There also have been various cultures that recognized same-sex relationships in one form or another. It was relatively common among most native American tribes for example
I love this guy.

Fun fact: "with all due respect" is equivalent to "I think you are an asshole" in congress-speak.

@deicidalRuffian In that case, I have a whole shit ton of respect for Congress. A big stinking shit-ton pile of respect.
