i'm an occupational safety engineer, the OSHA Act is NOT that difficult people. it is actually pretty cut and dry and it does not make it that hard on businesses to do their jobs. OSHA inspectors have no power, they cannot just show up unexpected, they can actually be refused entry without a warrant, as if a business had individual rights. companies just want more and more and more, and if they actually got what they wanted, they would still outsource.
When you have a savings rate of ZERO, 1.6 trillion dollar deficits and businesses having record amounts of debt (the cash they are hoarding is actually borrowed something not given a lot of publicity) , it is very hard for the economy to grow. Large debts, both in the public and the private sector, causes economic stagnation. These things can be explained by monetary policy and not regulatory policy. To simply say a country has more regulations and does better means nothing.

The comparisons with China and India is poor. Developing countries are a different case altogether. The right comparisons are with other high-income countries, such as Norway, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Japan, etc. And there, I think the results are mixed. The main point, though, about regulation being compatible with economic success is sound: It's not a question about whether or not regulations should be there but instead whether or not particular regulations are smart.

This republican is cracked in the head. Regulations have nothing to do with whether people invest in these businesses or not. Investment occurs when people with money feel that a business can manage the resources at its disposal - including the costs of having safe work areas, producing safe products and not toxifying the local area.
Besides if these companies that need regulations were able to regulate themselves, and were doing it right, they'd be spending the same amount of money regardless.

In these countries the government is bigger than the bussiness and everyone else. These government are totally out of the control of the people. In Brazil the public education is very bad and he poor and middle class people vote for the corrupt presidente, Dilma Roussef and Lula (Labour Party), only because the country is growing. The real people from the left in Brazil are totally against the Labour Party.

Please don't use Brazil, Argentina and China as an example. I'm brazillian and the government is totally corrupt they regulate the economic for them to make money for it. In Argentina, Cristina is almost a populist dictador, she suits the only one newspaper that is against her party and use her influence in the judiciary to win. And China everybody know that they are totally corrupt, they see who vote against them and fire them from the public bussiness. (sorry for my english)
