    You are very kind

    Thank you

  • @jenyaaditi You are so welcome Jenyaaditi, excellent question, and very perceptive. :) I ran out of words in my last post. The perfect example of what I was speaking of can be heard between 1:50 and 2:41, when she sings, "I ain't good lookin' .....". Hear how Holiday extends syllables, that's not an easy thing to do and no singer before her approached songs that way. Basically Holiday rearranged a songwriter's music; I'm not sure I still understand or can articulate what she does. :)

Can you describe the pitch of this song

    BTW good video

  • @jenyaaditi

Thank you. My short answer. This 12 bar blues intro/song: What you hearing here is quintessential Holiday; she ignored one of the basic principles of music theory, pitch is an aspect of melody and harmony, not rhythm. Yet Holiday used pitch as marker for rhythm. Holiday bends, slides, scoops, twists, and extend every syllables without ever having to sing loud yet, through out her career Holiday very seldom sang at level pitch. If you listen around the 1:50 mark...

  • Ooh Yeah ! Love her so much. She seems to feel good at this.
