I love your Video and I really like your translation.
It's grat. Thanks. The tale of Lúthien and Beren is one of my most favourite in the Silmarillion. The whole story is both sad and happy. But in my opinion the sad part pervails.
It's in some way like one of the old greece tragedies, e.g. Oedipus.
@ElisabethOrchard While I'm not an expert on the tragedies of Ancient Greece, I wouldn't label the tale of Beren and Luthien a tragedy, after all it's a story of a Love that overcomes all obstacles and flourishes no matter if death or doom lies separating the lovers. The tale that I would label as a tragedy is the ballad of Neithan, the story of Turin.
yeah, would be great if someone makes movies from tolkien´s writtings. peter jackson doesn´t looks like the choicen one, if he just could continue with the hobbit....after great TLOTR....
no, I'm afraid not. I did a google search on "Beren and Lúthien" - and as it is almost 1.5 years ago that I did that, I cannot really remember. I can say that there is artwork by Ted Nasmith in it, and some by Tolkien himself (Lake Mithrim) - and also some unrelated pictures (the forest, one of the landscape scenes).
@cluckgirl I just read an essay about Victorian poets inspiring Tolkien -- It's by Brad Eden & can be found in "Middle-Earth Minstrel" Also, try the Kalavala (Finnish mythology) -- the Tale of Kullervo is very similar to that of Turin Turambar from the Silmarillion
@nljfs: Thank you very much! I've finished the project I needed the info for now, but I'm still pursuing stuff for enjoyment's sake and that's extremely helpful.
@cluckgirl That's why I was reading about Music in Middle-Earth, a project for a class. I'm glad that you are still interested, even though the project is done. There are a ton of good books & such out there. Try checking out books by Tom Shippey, H. Carpenter, Isaacs & Zimbano (or similar), Eden, Verilyn Flieger, and Jane Chance ... there might be something of interest in one or all of them.
i'd love to hear harp-lute version.
