For a business owner, you sure whine a lot. There is nothing in law that prevents you from changing your prices whenver you like. As other posters have pointed out, it's simple supply/demand economics. (and lots of taxation).

Lowere taxes would do the most to lower fuel prices.

If you want a share of the profits, buy oil copmpany shaers. BP shares are currently paying a 5% dividend. That's a lot better than money in the bank!!

Another thing to trick Canadians. The gasolene is sold in litres not gallons anymore. This way they can raise 15cents to a litre (over 60cents a gallon at one shot). If they raise gas prices in the USA 60 cents a gallon at one shot, those gas stations will be burned down. Here the dealers are greedy and screw us left and right.They have politicians in their payroll. It is high time to stop this nonsense in Canada! Wake up people and smell the coffee

Yesterday (Sept.12/2008) I filled up my tank in Edmonton, Canada for $1.23/litre. Today it went up to $1.38/litre everywhere starting with the Shell station which was fined $300,000 for price fixing a few years ago. Why such a huge jump of 60 cents a gallon. We are paying $5.90 a gallon while Americans paying less than $4.The reason for this is cited as heavy winds in Huston. What a bunch of Bullcrap. Alberta produces enough gas here to supply all Canadians for years!BOYCOTT THESE BASTARDS!

We did boycott gas on a day in 1997 and the price did go down. We did it again in 2007 on May 15th and the price went down. Well you want to do somthing more radical? Boycott gas every Tuesday. You can buy gas on any of the other days but on Tuesday we boycott gas. We do this until the troops come home. This will force a surplus which will cause the price to go down but still boycott till the troops come home causing the price to drop even more. We keep it up until the troop come home.

Gasoline companies SUSPICIOUSLY RAN OUT OF 0.70, 0.80, 0.90, 1.00, AND 1.10 [PER LITRE] Gasoline, but there seems to be a lot of 1.20 per litre gasoline. Money grabbing pigs, thats what they are.

I applaud the effort to boycott, if only we could get organized, as consumers, we can do wonders. In this particular case, gas stations *trade* gas between one another, so if we boycott one company, it'll just sell gas to others, who'd otherwise run out of gas. So the net effect will be little. But again, the good part is that if we get to organized in a boycott, we can use it for many other things/companies and as consumers can win.

Well I know we can't change the world with a single day of boycotting but what if we boycotted gas for a couple days each month? Would that work? i know people may get discouraged from the seemingly endless days without change but wouldn't that work?

Gas companies charge different prices during the day because they try to differentiate the market - they try to charge business more and consumers less.

A business usually buys fuel during regular business hours, and consumers can afford to go out at 9pm and fuel then.

This is the same way airplane travel - these companies try to segment the market to make business users to pay more and regular people to pay less. Read some economics 101 and you'll see.

Loss of revenue can make large companies, even the auto industries; change their "business model". Sure the government can help with legislation to force them to put out new technology, but the true power is in our hands. Stop buying or leasing new gasoline powered cars for a year. Dear Misguided One: A boycott is effective only if it lasts a month, a year, 2 yrs., 5 yrs., etc. Not buying gas on a given day means nothing. UR only postponing ur inevitable purchase. A couple of remedies: lobby ur lawmakers to roll back punitive taxes. Second, say "no" to enviro-nazis who won't let refineries b built. Like Al Gore, who travels in SUV's w/an entourage, they have their trust-fund/inheritance $ but r happy 2 preach down 2 the working class abt. sacrificing. But they won't.

Well I don't know how affective this plan will be but I think it's wroth a try. It seems to me there is always some dumb excuse for the price being so high. Like when they say that when the price of oil goes down the gas price dosen't go down because it takes 3 months to get the cheap oil. BULLSHIT. It dosen't take 3 months to get the expensive oil yet the gas price goes up right away. The prediction of some catastrophe 5 years in the future would result in the gas price going up within 5 min.

This message needs to be updated. She's talking about how gas prices are fluxuating throughout the day. But now, the prices have been extremely fixed for almost 2 months now. Morning to evening, GTA east to west, identical, and extremely fixed. There are competition laws against this - why isn't it enforced?

Gas prices are extremely fixed the last couple of weeks. It's uncanny! I think we should all boycott Esso for at least 1 month starting April 1st. Let's specifically target Esso for now.

This won't work, go take a university or college course in Economics. I'm not economics expert, but if I think this through, the supply at the other 4 will decline, prices will go up. But for the remainder of people who shop at the first one (cause they don't know or don't care), the price will be stagnant or decline, the prices across all 5 will just normalize.

Want to change the price of gas? Either reduce the popluation, buy a hybrid or reduce your driving. That's the only way.
