To those of you who are confused, Hair is a musical about the Tribe, a group of hippies living in the city during the Vietnam war. Claude (in the uniform) gets drafted, and this scene is after he's killed in the war. It's a huge political message. If you've never seen it, I would suggest both seeing it live and the movie version, since they're different.
for me hair is one of those musicals you have to see to know what is going on. which is wh i am so confused about what the hell just happened. amazing song amazing voices i just dont know what they are meaning.
i love this song but i am so confused about the meaning of it. please this is one of the best songs i have ever listened to and i want to know what it means if anyone can tell me please i woul really appreciate it.
As a ten year veteran whose seen the "Ugly" I always find it difficult to listen to this musical even though it's my favorite. The voices of these performers in amazing. I wish I could see it live but I would probably wind up in therapy afterwards. Great work.
My heart breaks for the loss of our troop's lives just like any reasonable caring persons would but I'm for ending the current imperialist wars in the middle east. No more of our "lambs to the slaughter!"
There is no piece of musical theater that can be as powerful as this one. This scene alone has to be one of the most powerful scenes in musical theater. Ever.
I just saw this show last week, but I've been wanting to see it for a while. I knew I would cry when I saw at live during the finale, but I didn't expect to feel just as emotional while watching this video. Honestly, from the moment I hit play I had chills, and I couldn't help but cry. Such an amazingly powerful show.
I just ended a production of Hair, and every time we sang this I cried so hard, I love it so much, it was literally the most life changing show I have done.
So incredible! Even after this so powerful rendition of The Flesh Failures by Gavin Creel that brings tears to our eyes, we keep on listening for the new-told lies.
he was a pretty amazing claude - i saw both him and his understudy, and maybe its not for everyone's tastes, but Gavin Creel definitely lived the part really well, so riveting and his acting was superb... not sure this video does him justice.
@sheburnslikethesun yeah im sure my opinion of him would have been different if i'd seen the show in person, one 5-minute video clip isn't an adequate representation
The very end of this play never fails to leave me bawling my eyes out. Claude's body lying on the American flag to me symbolizes the death of all the hopes and dreams of the hippie movement. It was both very sad but also in a strange way very beautiful to see.
I saw the show March 6. When I heard they were going to London I had to see Will Swenson and Gavin Creel. I didn't want to see anyone else playing the roles of Berger and Claude. I was so moved beyond belief. The whole entire cast was fantastic, true professionals. I wish I could see them again. Will left the show in May and Gavin is leaving Sept 1. So BUMMED.
@tonyoutterside American auddiences r more responsive at Broadway shows and it maybe a beautiful moment (which it is) an auddience that claps to the beat is a good thing it shows that the actors are doing a good job at keeping their auddiences attention
I've seen the show 3 times since it opened in 2009. Once with the OBC, the last 2 with the new tribe. (twice in the past 3 weeks) This is probably the most powerful ending to a show ever performed on a stage, imho. I remember when I saw the OBC, I was not expecting this ending so I bawled. I don't like that the audience clapped. It kind of ruined the ending. Everytime I've seen it, everyone was dead silent & letting the tribe's voices & the scene make its impact. Love this show!
when i went to see thiis i met Annaleigh Ashford she was so nice im going to see this again in november takeingmy mom for her bday this show is so dam awsome
Brilliant Show. I would kill to be able to see a recording of the whole show again. Even if it is with this first cast. I saw it on April 8th with Ace Young and Kyle Riabko and was about ready to weep at the ending scene. It was so beautiful to see in person. With the snow coming down on claude on the American flag, and the rest of the cast singing "Let the Sunshine In" in the background. SO impacting and absolutely memorable and worth seeing a million times over.
