  • To those of you who are confused, Hair is a musical about the Tribe, a group of hippies living in the city during the Vietnam war. Claude (in the uniform) gets drafted, and this scene is after he's killed in the war. It's a huge political message. If you've never seen it, I would suggest both seeing it live and the movie version, since they're different.

  • This scene always makes me cry

  • for me hair is one of those musicals you have to see to know what is going on. which is wh i am so confused about what the hell just happened. amazing song amazing voices i just dont know what they are meaning.

  • i love this song but i am so confused about the meaning of it. please this is one of the best songs i have ever listened to and i want to know what it means if anyone can tell me please i woul really appreciate it.

  • Thank you so much for this! What a great message. Fantastic cast and direction!

  • As a ten year veteran whose seen the "Ugly" I always find it difficult to listen to this musical even though it's my favorite. The voices of these performers in amazing. I wish I could see it live but I would probably wind up in therapy afterwards. Great work.

  • 3 people are not letting the sun shine in.

  • I have an absolute friggin breakdown during this song. Every time. Even watching it now.

  • Is this the 2009 revival that performed @ The Al Hirschfeld Theater or this the tour company that performed at the St. James this past summer.

  • @HunterHuiet105 it's the '09 cast, though many of the same performers were featured in the tour

  • yep..goosebumps

  • will we ever learn?

  • im in tears im performing this in a group right now and all we do is cry so powerful!!

  • My heart breaks for the loss of our troop's lives just like any reasonable caring persons would but I'm for ending the current imperialist wars in the middle east. No more of our "lambs to the slaughter!"

  • Claude looks like Christian Bale.

  • I just LOVE how Jeanie looks at her womb in "Life is around you and IN you" <3

  • hair changed my life. <3

  • I just saw this show last week, but I've been wanting to see it for a while. I knew I would cry when I saw at live during the finale, but I didn't expect to feel just as emotional while watching this video. Honestly, from the moment I hit play I had chills, and I couldn't help but cry. Such an amazingly powerful show.

  • Oh, never mind...Its Gavin!!!! I know who that is!!!

  • Is Claude played by Paris Remillard here? he looks pretty similar....Who is this? Hair was so fun to go to! I got to dance on stage!!!! :D

  • @BroadwayDreamchild No, Gavin Creel is playing Claude here. I also saw Paris as Claude and he was fantastic.

  • @USCthea89 Oh. sorry. He looks a HECK of a lot like Paris here though. Both are amazing. :D

  • I just ended a production of Hair, and every time we sang this I cried so hard, I love it so much, it was literally the most life changing show I have done.

  • Omfg. so many memories. i saw them in london. was the best day ever .. :'x

  • Such a great video! -3

  • "WOOOOOO!"

  • I'm getting goosebumps againnn.

  • I just got cast in Hair! and I am soo excited to sing this...so powerful!

  • @kdicristo congrats! is it a high school thing? or the tour?

  • @meangirl714 Niether haha, its a ommuntiy theatre group ages are 17-23! Such an amazing show!

  • @kdicristo nice!

  • I am genuinely sad that I am not still in Durham watching this. We saw it, and it changed my life. No, it IS my life now.

  • Just saw this musical a few days ago with the touring cast; I had no idea what it was about- so it all took me by surprise.

My heart was shattered at this scene.

  • I cry every time. It's unbelievably moving.

  • In case nobody knows-this is returning to Bway on July 5th for 10 weeks.!!!

  • I saw this back in June 2009, with this cast. I knew absolutely nothing about Hair, save a couple songs.

My life has never been the same. The world actually LOOKS DIFFERENT now that I experienced Hair

  • Can Hair beat A Chorus Line?

  • @caravaggio31 Yes, it can.

  • i dont think ive ever seen anyone believe in anything more than this cast did in "let the sunshine in"

  • So incredible! Even after this so powerful rendition of The Flesh Failures by Gavin Creel that brings tears to our eyes, we keep on listening for the new-told lies.

  • how strange was it the movie had Burger replace claude and Buger dies

  • just incredible love the air guitar and drum break tht happens the second before cassie starts to amaze me! such an amazing building number :) x

  • what a powerful ending!!!

  • No song moves me like this. Amazing because I am a church musician.

  • My school is doing hair and im soo happyyy this is def my fav song...so powerful

  • This has to be one of the best musical songs and finales ever, even if it makes me cry when I watch! Claude's so sweet, I wish he didn't die. :(

  • didnt like claudes acting so much but other than that i thought this was phenomenal

  • @gibson2085

he was a pretty amazing claude - i saw both him and his understudy, and maybe its not for everyone's tastes, but Gavin Creel definitely lived the part really well, so riveting and his acting was superb... not sure this video does him justice.

  • @sheburnslikethesun yeah im sure my opinion of him would have been different if i'd seen the show in person, one 5-minute video clip isn't an adequate representation

  • i cry EVERY TIME i watch this..

  • this is my fave scene! thanks for posting!

  • You could just see the passion in their face when they sing. This is truly a excellent A+ wonderful phenomenal cast!!

  • Caissie Levy and Gavin Creel have 2 of the most amazing voices I've ever heard.

  • I can't stop crying. This song always makes me. So powerful; Gavin and the Tribe are perfection.

  • i get goose bumps every time i see this.

  • The Twat that ever made war is an idiot. Why didn't they use Peace?! Pisses me off.

  • My heart is aching :( Best finale ever.

  • going to the tour of this april 16th in hershey pa also saw it in nyx and met annleigh ashford awsome

  • I played Sheila in a production of Hair two years ago and this song still wracks me....I LOVE this version.

  • That was brilliant.

  • The very end of this play never fails to leave me bawling my eyes out. Claude's body lying on the American flag to me symbolizes the death of all the hopes and dreams of the hippie movement. It was both very sad but also in a strange way very beautiful to see.

  • the line "Berger......., I feel like I died" killed me EVERY time I saw this.

  • Awesome, so sad Gavin and Will are not in the show anymore :(

  • I saw the show March 6. When I heard they were going to London I had to see Will Swenson and Gavin Creel. I didn't want to see anyone else playing the roles of Berger and Claude. I was so moved beyond belief. The whole entire cast was fantastic, true professionals. I wish I could see them again. Will left the show in May and Gavin is leaving Sept 1. So BUMMED.

  • @tonyoutterside American auddiences r more responsive at Broadway shows and it maybe a beautiful moment (which it is) an auddience that claps to the beat is a good thing it shows that the actors are doing a good job at keeping their auddiences attention

  • Utter perfection - this is art at its most beautiful and profound...

  • So pissed I missed Gavin and crew in NY with this. Hoping for a tour with a west coast swing.

  • the clapping is annoying, i saw this in London and noone clapped because it was so moving and tense and just beautiful!!!

  • Allison Case breaks down at 3:45 and it is the most BEAUTIFUL thing ever!

  • @AJKLOPOTOSKI only somewhat related, but at a performance in London I attended, when I got up on stage, afterwards I got a hug from Allison!! :DDDD

  • Diana ain't got nothin on Caissie. Err...Didn't...

  • THANK YOU!

  • I've seen the show 3 times since it opened in 2009. Once with the OBC, the last 2 with the new tribe. (twice in the past 3 weeks) This is probably the most powerful ending to a show ever performed on a stage, imho. I remember when I saw the OBC, I was not expecting this ending so I bawled. I don't like that the audience clapped. It kind of ruined the ending. Everytime I've seen it, everyone was dead silent & letting the tribe's voices & the scene make its impact. Love this show!

  • gavin creel <3 not gay

  • Just saw this in London with (just about) the same cast.

Thanks for letting me relive it a bit!

  • when i went to see thiis i met Annaleigh Ashford she was so nice im going to see this again in november takeingmy mom for her bday this show is so dam awsome

  • Brilliant Show. I would kill to be able to see a recording of the whole show again. Even if it is with this first cast. I saw it on April 8th with Ace Young and Kyle Riabko and was about ready to weep at the ending scene. It was so beautiful to see in person. With the snow coming down on claude on the American flag, and the rest of the cast singing "Let the Sunshine In" in the background. SO impacting and absolutely memorable and worth seeing a million times over.

  • May be wrong, but does Gavin give a little wink to the camera at 0:53?

  • sends chills down my spine

  • does anybody know if anyone has the full show up for trade?

  • @illbeastonishing16 yes, the person who posted this originall has a facebook page where she uploads random broadway shows once a week and Hair was the show one week. She has an email were you can trade, just message her on this fb group

  • @illbeastonishing16 oh and it's called "Kelsey's Broadway Videos", search it on facebook because some reason i wasnt allowed to post the link

  • @BWombat12 Thanks very much whosoever sent this here!

Just saw that HAIR production in London and the whole thing was beyond of any words.

Hope to get to London soon to see it again.

  • @BWombat12 yes it is i have it

  • @illbeastonishing16 yes it is i have ut

  • Let's get real - this is the BEST finale of any musical ever.

  • @ThatOtherGuy1100 It just might be.

  • Does anybody know what he says after "Berger i feel like died"?

  • @TheWoodstockBaby Berger calls out Claude's name, and Claude says "I'm Here"

  • @Patff Okay but what does claude say after Berger and Sheila

  • Their finally seeing that I can perform miracles. It's the only thing I want to do on this dirt.

  • @Patff Thanks so much :)

  • No prob. :)

  • i thought he said if i am uneseen than i can perform miracles? i may be mistaken but im pretty sure thats what he says

  • It's actually "If I am unseen, I can perform miracles."

  • LOVE. gavin creel sings like Jesus.

  • i died watching this. like thanks i love you whoever you are.

  • this is amazing! this makes me cry everytime I watch it!

  • Oh my God, I'm gonna cry....

  • just bawled my eyes out! thank you so much for posting this! over the past 10 months i have seen the show an abundance of times and i will never forget how these people changed my life, and what kind hearts they have! cant wait to see them march 7th for the last one...

  • Thank you so much for posting this. It's been a while since I've seen it, and the ending is definitely the most powerful image in the show and it has stuck with me ever since, and is a major reason in why HAIR is my favorite musical today.

  • That image of Claude lying on the American Flag just kills me. First time I saw HAIR, I started crying. Especially with the snow.

  • I didn't know the story of hair when I saw this revival so the end choked me up. I was crying. Especially the symbolism of the flag and the signifigance of the snow. I still get chills.

  • Yeah. I was so sad when I heard that Gavin Creel and Will Swenson's last show was on March 7th. They were so great as Claude and Berger.

  • @SNUD1996 I WEPT uncontrollably. I could have been Claude. I could still be Claude. My friends could be Claude. It was just toooooo close to home! GAH!

  • @SNUD1996 so depressing man. SO DEPRESSING </3 :C

  • OMG I love this! Thank you so so much!!

  • I absolutely love this song

the first time I saw it part of my sould died along with Claude, and was reborn in the "curtain calls"

  • Thanks so much for reposting this, and to whomever recorded it in the first place!

My only complaint is I kinda wish the audience didn't continue to clap when the music stops. That ending is MUCH more powerful with just the voices.

  • agreed. when i saw this (amazing, btw), the audience was in stunned silence the entire song.

    So beautiful.

  • I love the emphasis of "facing" in both verses.

  • I miss when Caissie did the high notes in her solo. She sounds fantastic, as does Gavin and the rest of the tribe

  • I love you for recording this

  • well i didnt really, someone else had posted this but it got taken off! and so i posted it (not saying it was my own) so others could see it!
