"Wushu" is more or less a literal translation for "Martial art" (chinese)... It could be compared with the Japanese word "budo" (Bu = inclines that the word has something to do with the military, Do= A path, a way i.e "way of")

e.g "Bushidō" = "Way of the warrior"

Wushu and Kung mean exactly the same in Chinese.

@bravoparamita wushu means martial arts Kung means "Work", Kungfu implies great skill achieved through hard work over a long period of time. THe language isnt so simple.

@91nitran no that's completely wrong. Wushu is the mandarin name for martial arts. Wushu, outside of China is condidered the form techniques from Shaolin Kungfu. Wushu has nothing to do with Karate other than the fact that Wushu literally means 'martial art' or 'military technique' and Karate is one style of martial art. In China Shaolin is made up of forms and Sanda(the practical application of Kungfu). It is only outside of China that people seperate it and call Shaolin forms 'Wushu'

This is my master , he is as far is i know the best in the world at mixed martial arts, he trained as a kid with Jet Li, under legendary chinese masters. He headed china's best university in martial arts training but finnaly settled in what he realised was the best country on earth, Australia. Ive peronally sparred with him, she pushed my over like i was a rag doll, and to top it off hes a really really nice guy, IMO best Martial arts teacher on earth, and the strongest, my god hes strong

oh nope! this is not Shaolin Kongfu ok? this is the another famous school of Kongfu from China. it calls TaiJi or Wudang KongFu. I trained this one from my master for couple years.
