You do realise Sweden is a country that runs 1500 kilometers from North to South right? The 3 hours of daylight is only above the arctic circle, where approx <1% of all Swedes live. If you think that zone starts 400km north from Stockholm, I wonder if you've ever even been to Sweden...

@Veracruz85 I live in Stockholm and and I can confirm that around christmas/new year ther is only about 3 hours daylight. So that is true. But the artic circle is at least 1000 km north of Stockholm. North of the artic circle there is no light at all during the midwinter! Vice versa in the summer!

Stranglers visited Sweden for a tour, but got their instruments and gear demolished by a certain youth fenomenon called "Raggare" (their speciality was to drive big american (old) cars, listen to old school Rock n Roll and start fights). Thats why Stranglers wrote this song. There is also a single made by Swedish punk rock group "Rude Kids" answering this one...

It's the first time I'm listening to the Stranglers and I love them from the first tune... i found them coz sb wrote they had similar style as a Polish band -Republika... and they do :) I truly recommend to anyone interested Republika as they rock too :)

The thing you are talking about happens everywhere. Everybody is scared, so its nothing particular with Swedes. I have been traveling all over the world and I havent find one country that beat us when it comes to social wellfare, structure, efficiency and if other ppl find that boring - FINE. I estimate though, to be able to get the public service I'm entitle too as a citizen.
That i dont have to fear that my son run the risk of being sentence to death for a crime he didnt committ because the a**holes who got them him there in the first place are more interested to save their asses, than justice - like those boys in Mephis Four Case.

The Stranglers also cancelled their tour in Sweden, which led the swedish punk band The Rude Kids to release their single Stranglers (if it's so quiet why don't you come here and play) a year later.
Hugh Cornwell (the singer) studied to be a doctor in Sweden and started Johnny Sox with three swedes. The band moved to England and changed name to The Stranglers and the swedes dropped off one after another. I guess this is some sort of a revenge from Hugh's side. A farewell to old bandmates...
Not entirely true... Gurth Godwin was a draft dodging Yank and Although Hans Warmling (S) was a founder member along with Hugh that is where the similarty ends, I doubt if the original line up had any of the skills of JJ, Jet and Dave Greenfield although Hans did pen Strange Little girl and is mentioned on the credits.
I think you will find that the song is targetted at Malmo, where they got snoad/snowed in after a concert and Jet reffered to Malmo as the cesspit of the north...
You forget Jan Knuda Knutsson and Chicago Mike. But that's not the point. Hugh has a history with Sweden and it's a little juvenile to write a hate song about a country, eventhough it's pretty good. They did a swedish version of it as well, so in some strange way it's probably a compliment. And yes, I don't think that they were as good as the Stranglers became.

It's the first time I'm listening to the Stranglers and I love them from the first tune... i found them coz sb wrote they had similar style as a Polish band -Republika... and they do :) I truly recommend to anyone interested Republika as they rock too :)

Wow! I hadn't heard/thought of the Stranglers in so long. Then this tune came into my head, so I had to see if anyone had posted. Like, wow! Thanks for this great group on utube! Wonderful tune--I never imagined anything like this video with the lyrics and sound this was to me in the 80's, though! In my mind, I imagined icy-white clouds blowing fast over blue skies above europe at the end of the great war. (all quiet on the eastern front)... Dreamy tune! Video disconnect.

The thing you are talking about happens everywhere. Everybody is scared, so its nothing particular with Swedes. I have been traveling all over the world and I havent find one country that beat us when it comes to social wellfare, structure, efficiency and if other ppl find that boring - FINE. Hugh Cornwell (the singer) studied to be a doctor in Sweden and started Johnny Sox with three swedes. The band moved to England and changed name to The Stranglers and the swedes dropped off one after another. I guess this is some sort of a revenge from Hugh's side. A farewell to old bandmates...

Gurth Godwin was a draft dodging Yank and Although Hans Warmling (S) was a founder member along with Hugh that is where the similarty ends, I doubt if the original line up had any of the skills of JJ, Jet and Dave Greenfield although Hans did pen Strange Little girl and is mentioned on the credits.
I think you will find that the song is targetted at Malmo, where they got snoad/snowed in after a concert and Jet reffered to Malmo as the cesspit of the north...

You forget Jan Knuda Knutsson and Chicago Mike. But that's not the point. Hugh has a history with Sweden and it's a little juvenile to write a hate song about a country, eventhough it's pretty good. They did a swedish version of it as well, so in some strange way it's probably a compliment. And yes, I don't think that they were as good as the Stranglers became.
If you don't like Sweden, it's your loss.
