What amazing breath control! Take a look at the man's belt as he performs. There's a lot of muscle control there, years of experience. Who is around today to continue the tradition of the true master of eephing, Jimmy Riddle? Riddle was such a humble guy. He also played a damn good harmonica, but never upstaged anyone, always kept in the background, even though as a performer, and a musician, he was of outstanding caliber. How bout an eephing contest to bring out the hidden talent out there?

I met these guys backstage at the Grand Ol' Opry, many years ago. The place was pandemonium, but Riddle & Phelps were just having a good time.

Riddle was doing the 'eefing' and Phelps had a wooden dancing man on a paddle on his knee. That wooden man was just going crazy.

I watched them for a couple of minutes; they finished, looked up at me and grinned. So I asked, "Whadya call that?" and Phelps leaned over, spit tobacco juice into a can and said, "I call that a dancin' little bastard!"

They also were GREAT musicians. Riddle played piano, accordion, and harmonica for Roy Acuff's Smoky Mountain Boys for 38 years until his death. Phelps played guitar for Acuff, Bill Monroe, and a host of others.
