The old films got new versions only because the industry refuses to create any new content and instead relies upon its prior successful series to create new films. Case in point: Indiana Jones, TMNT, Terminator, etc. Some have been good; IJ4 was absolute garbage. But for the most part, being older (no longer a kid), films only get worst. I have not seen a recent film in so long and don't care to do so.

Most recently Dan ackroyd is talking about getting Judd appatow to write/direct it which i guess means harrold ramis wont be writing, which is a real shame. @sethraven29 I was watching the extras on Ghostbusters: The Video Game on PS3, and I recall one comment; it's vague in my mind, but the essence of it was that the game _was_ the next installment in the series. It follows the original continuity, after all, it ties up a lot of dangling plotlines, & the original actors voice the original roles. The story is excellent, topping GB2 IMO, and it plays like a playable movie. The chemistry is even there, strong as ever.
Addendum: Even the CGI representations of the Ghostbusters aren't repulsive, and I normally find CGI revolting; it's the reason I've actively refused to watch any of the Shrek movies. I can't stand the way CGI lips move. Haven't watched that sort of animation, except in games, since gagging my way through the first "Toy Story."

@thegroove14 filmakers went without cgi for a long time. It's possible to not use cgi in a movie. To me we watch movies for good stories. We don't watch them for boring,pointless,over-the-top,uninteresting,emotionless and overlong action scenes. The perfect example is the Star Wars Saga. The Original Trilogy was great because we liked the characters and we cared about what was going on,we had an emotional connection. With the prequels however it's all about special effects. And it sucks.

One of the stories I've heard is that at least two of the original actors (Aykroyd and Ramis) are self-conscious about the weight they've gained and the hair they've lost and how much they've aged. I say, get girdles and wigs and go for it anyway. We miss you guys! :-)

The first was my favorite. Also, I agree, i want the original characters! no animation, and it seems like they just sweeped the sequel under the rug, its 2011 now, I want a 3rd so bad.

Dan Akroyd just revealed that shooting will begin in Spring next year and that it will have the original cast but will revolve around a new generation of Ghostbusters, and it will definetely show the age of the orignal Ghostbusters such as Stantz is blind in one eye and can't drive the cadillac and his knees are bad and can't carry the packs, Spangler is too large to fit into the harnesses things like that. There are other rumors about the story but this one looks pretty good.

@thegroove14 filmakers went without cgi for a long time. It's possible to not use cgi in a movie. To me we watch movies for good stories. We don't watch them for boring,pointless,over-the-top,uninteresting,emotionless and overlong action scenes. The perfect example is the Star Wars Saga. The Original Trilogy was great because we liked the characters and we cared about what was going on,we had an emotional connection. With the prequels however it's all about special effects. And it sucks.

well james when does the past end and when does the future start.... thats the thing time isnt real present is what it is, and future is what the present will be and the past is only what the present was, and only exist mentally what im saying why should there not be a new actor the original actors where good but the whole point of the movie is ghosts and 4 friends that own a company that catches ghosts its about the movies idea, to give some the perspective not to see the same people and lessCG

Bill Murray hasn't signed on, but literally everybody else has. Dan Aykroyd confirmed that they'll start filming in Spring 2012 with or without him.

One of the stories I've heard is that at least two of the original actors (Aykroyd and Ramis) are self-conscious about the weight they've gained and the hair they've lost and how much they've aged. I say, get girdles and wigs and go for it anyway. We miss you guys! :-)

New movies? Look at how good any of those remakes or sequels you mentioned. MOST of them werent very good, some yes, but most no. Remakes are there mostly for the quick profits production companies make.
As for getting them to do this by coming out of retirement...think again.

You must realize, those guys are old now, its either CGI with the original voice actors, or a new actor entirely.
Its like every video game movie. The character sucks since the actor cant play the part and they cant afford awesome realtime stunts, CGI fixes alot of these issues.

They were about comedy, and the charming and the good chimestry between the characters. You don't need CGI or pumped up brainless action heroes for that, YOU NEED THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS.

CGI is bullshit. it's completely lackluster, you kniow it's fake, and it's devoid of any real emotion or fascination. it's just.... oh, look, graphics.... yayyyy.... yawn.

all these movies and characters are dying out, transformers hasnt aged that much, indiana jones is old and got married in the end of the latest movie, john cant handle much more, he shot himself at the end but lived, i mean, all the characters had there greatest feats in history but, when the character turn old like they are, you cant make them refreshed, so unfortunatley, all these will die out, and i fear what they will replace them with, now that disney controls most of what hollywood does...
