Yeah, that's how my friend and I discovered 12 Rods as well. Just looked for the 10.0 review, but it's been scrubbed from the Pitchfork site, though the middling reviews for Lost Time and Separation Anxieties are still around. I guess the company has a pretty strict image to maintain now.
@jtorin76 your completely correct... their label didn't invest enough for promotion for them, unfortunately they didn't quite take flight to the masses but people like us are blessed to have seen them live/heard their music
signed or not 12 Rods is seriously one of my favorite bands ever . That is saying a shitload I stumbled across Lost Time by mention in a music thread on some forum that really had nothing to do with music. So I feel lucky to even know who they are & enjoy the shit out of Part Of 2 with my coffee every morning.
I know I should buy the album, but since it's sadly out of print, I must ask this question: Can anyone please send me this album? I apologize to anyone who might say "Buy the fucking album on ebay" or something like that, but i need this album. Need!
and one last thing...as for your "supersized ego" comment, I in NO WAY agree with you about anyone having a supersized ego--that was your opinion and is in no way shared by me at all. I have more respect for these guys as musicians than most people I have worked with in my 7 years of work with musicians. I would never agree with you--please don't lump me into your opinions.
Um...Just for the record Mr. RockinHejabi--I have no CLUE who you are, and I have NEVER been a "scout" (um, they stopped using that word years ago) for Warner Bros Records. So.,...Perhaps you are confusing me with some other person, but if you actually had talked to me, I would have told you that 12rods WAS signed--and when they were signed--I WAS STILL IN COLLEGE AND HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MUSIC INDUSTRY! Get your facts straight.
Ya know, you're right. I shouldn't make a comment based on what she said. Anyhoo, it doesn't matter why you guys didn't get signed....you *should have been...corporate rock absolutely SUCKS. Supersized Ego comment should have been kept to myself. My apologies.
Where is that Ry at 16 that we all knew and loved?
Well, according to Kristy Swailes, who is our good friend and we all grew up with her, and is now a scout for Warner Brothers records, y'all refused to sign b/c you didn't want to lose any artistic freedom, right? I guess that super-sized Ego of yours finally did you in, love.
Your information is totally totally false - read the "Diary" on the 12 rods web site. Super-sized ego had NOTHING to do with it, I can tell you that much.
I read the timeline on their website, man this band sounds like they had it rough. Such amazing music, touring horror stories, shitty V2 records copping out of some of the best shit ever. This band should still be together, its a bummer I don't think the fanbase exists to get them to make another LP. Oh well... Split Personalities is an amazing album
I had thepleasure of touring EXTENSIVELY with the RODS for many years. The music biz really does destroy art more than they sell it. The 12RODS were the most talented and artistic group of individuals that I have had the pleasure of EVER hearing. And they got so much better with age. The world really missed out. For those of us that didn't...let us raise a glass to the most inspiring memories we share about the greatest band in Minneapolis history...12RODS.
the reason why i got into the rods was this music video that aired at least 3 times a day on mtv2 when mtv2 had just come out i think they were upstaged by Harvery Dangers Flagpole sitta wich had just came out at the same time as this
Hate to sound like a broken record--but this band should never have hung it up. Look at this radio-friendly MTV-ready stuff! Shee-it, man! Get the band back together. I don't care if you have already gotten software jobs!
ryan olcott is way hot here. not like that matters, but worth a mention. excellent song, really really great

Played shows a few times with these guys here in town. They were awesome, one of our favorite bands to play with.

Remember when Pitchfork was Nutso over these guys? They definitely made me search out the CD. Glad I did.

Part of 2 is definitely one of their best songs. Gaymo and Red are up there as well.

You can buy the MP3s from the 12RODS web site. Comes with artwork & stuff too.
akg41470 3 years ago
thanks, but I guess i'll wait until they eventually reissue it. I just would like something tangible if i'm gonna pay for it. Maybe ebay...
sohailio11 3 years ago
Oh, believe me, there will be no re-issuing. Ebay perhaps is your best bet.

I find it surprising these guys never made it big. This seems like it could've been very college radio-friendly stuff (same with "Stupidest Boy").
