you should watch the whole movie. the main characters who came in actually were just a group of friends who were being bullied by the other kids in the fight. throughout the movie they tried to resolve it peacefully and to just ignore the other bullies but the attacks got more and more violent until one of their friends got killed. So they were pretty much backed into a corner.
