Mate im building my first one out of a 3 draw filing cabinet..not im only half way done and only spent 37 dollars for all the parts i need..the question i have is how do i minimise smoke losses from the door area at the front?? im new to this and im sure that there will be losses..lol
@2007qbert Sorry for the late response! I used a regular file cabinet, I'm sure a fire proof one would be better but a whole lot more expensive. When smoking you really only hit temps around 250 or below so the thin metal isn't really an issue unless cooking in the cold. This build was done on a modest budget and didn't really want to spend the excess money on a fire proof cabinet. Thanks for the comments and questions. Hope this helps! If you make one out of a fire proof cabinet let me know.
10 Points! Smart idea on the file cab. There are various types, and much larger. Think I will build one and maybe insulate at least the fire box. Very, very smart. Ya made my day my man!
What did you use to stick the Diamond plate to the cabinet?

This is fuken awesome but wouldn't the paint or whatever is on the inside melt n smolder n make some nasty toxic fumes into ur meat?
CaliforniaCarl 10 months ago
@CaliforniaCarl I took a torch and burned all the paint out of the inside. Good question though. Thanks!

Great idea! Did you use a fire-proof file cab or just a plain 'ole thin sheet steel one? Thanks in advance for your response.

very cool. I have the other file smoker on youTube "test run" How are you doing with holding temp? what did you use to hold your wood?
symanaa 2 years ago
@symanaa Thanks! It does a great job holding temps and we used a steel wire basket. We use lump charcoal and a few chunks of wood for fuel.
