I was in the D back then. It wasn't a day or two after Stockton was picked that Isiah lit the Jazz up for 40+ points. And Christian Laetner was on that team (over Shaq).
I was living in Chicago when the first "Dream Team" Olympic team was assembled. Michael Jordan REFUSED to have Isiah on the team. I'm betting that he regrets this now as an immature, emotional issue. The rivalry was still fresh (the Bull had just beaten the Pistons for the Conference Title). I'm betting that if Jordan was asked today, he'd say "yeah, Isiah should have been on that team".
Actually, Jordan is still an immature asshole. Did you see his recent hall of fame acceptance speech? Nobody disagrees that he was an amazing player, but he's definitely always been petty.
@BBCater Fuck isiah and the rest of the classless bad girls. He was a coward with no class why do you think it was so easy to keep him off the team. I didn't hear anyone stick up for the lil bitch.

@RegEJr They proved they didn't need him i mean the team didn't suffer any. It is what it is thomas fucked up next time learn to go out like a true champion with class.
As good as Isiah was, no one really liked him as a person because he played with the Pistons and they would just smack you in the face. Also they were a huge obstacle for Bird and Magic in either winning for Magic or getting to the Finals for Bird. Hell, all even for Michael it took him 4 years to get past the Pistons before he won his 6 championships. Hell, Michael and everyone on that first Dream Team blacked ball him. It wasn't Michael who did that it was everyone who black balled him.
For MJ to start bad-mouthing Detroit before round three of '91 was even over was tacky, and Pippen said he would not play on the Dream Team if Isiah played on it - also wrong.
I wonder if Daly had resigned from DT if he would have been welcomed a Pistons coach for life for acknowledging what a pathetic political snub that was against Isiah. Pippen only finished his FOURTH NBA season and he was on there? He wasn't even an impact player his first year - so thats only 3 great seasons.
Very good debate some of you are having about the Pistons. Despite the unlikable players on that team, they won 2 straight titles (89-90) and were robbed in June 88 of beating LA, so it could have been 3.
The foul call against Laimbeer in game 6 against Kareem would never have happened if it wasn't Detroit.
I fully agree that Isiah, Rodman, Laimbeer, Mahorn (and Aguirre the next year) were assholes, But you can't deny what a strong NBA machine they were.
Setting the record straight. The Piston's became the "Bad Boys" when Isiah sprained ankle, & the Lakers wouldn't let P's use facilities to help him. The LA Raiders called Pistons & let them use their facilities for Isiah. The Raiders used to be known as "Bad Boys", so they made a T-shirt together with the Detroit "Bad Boys" & Raider logo to make $. In long run, this marketing plan backfired on Pistons. And P's became targets & some P's played into it. League made more $ villanizing Pistons.
@MrEvolution513 MY COUNTER TO THAT IS THE PISTONS GOT LUCKY IN 1989, BECAUSE THE LAKERS SHOULD HAVE 3PEATED IF IT WASNT FOR MAGIC AND BYRON SCOTT BEING OUT, LAKERS WOULD HAVE BEAT THEM. REMEMBER THAT YEAAR THE LAKERS WERE UNDEFEATED GOING INTO THE FINALS UNTIL SCOTT MISSED ALL THE FINALS AND MAGIC GOT HURT IN THE 3RD QUARTER OF GAME 2 MISSING THE REST OF THE FINALS
I could argue the same about the year before, because during that finals Isaiah Thomas was suffering from serious injuries (but still beating the shit out of Magic and his boys). Perhaps if he had been in better shape, they would have beaten the lakers.
@MrEvolution513 I'll give you an analogy. When the ass holes are the team you root for they're deserving and the best. So what, what the rest of the fans think. A GSW fan faithful I never cared what people thought of Rick Barry, he was the man period and if you didn't get it you're a hater. Either way so what. Zeke ,Jordan .Magic, Floor generals and winners don't care about a thing except the W. Add every Champ in any sport it's all about the ring
@MrEvolution513 I grew up in Chicago, and they beat the hell out of us for years. They went to 3 straight finals and won two in a row! Of course they were a machine. I'll go one step further. Isiah should have been on the dream team! Laettner and Mullin were ridiculous picks. As we all know, Jordan and Pippen said, "If Isiah is on the team, we aren't!!!!!!" lol
I grew up in Detroit and the Celtics used to beat us up the same way during the 80s. I think the Pistons learned how to play hard team defense from the Celtic losses they suffered.
Ok, I've heard a lot about Jordan supposedly having Zeke kicked off the Dream Team, but then why didn't Magic or Daly say anything? You'd think his friend and coach would have spoken up for him.
It is irritating, isn't it? I think Daly was upset over this & it probably had something to do with why he didn't return to the Pistons after DT. He probably couldn't look Isiah in the eye. From Magic's seat, it might make it an easier debate over who's better if he were on the DT & Isiah weren't? Also Magic was still sore that Isiah came public about Magic screening his calls when Zeke injured his ankle in the 88' Finals. & LA wouldn't let Isiah use training facilities to nurse his ankle.
Even if Michael did say that it's not like Isiah didn't do anything to piss him off. I'm not saying it was right but Zeke did walk off the court after the Bulls beat the Pistons in 91 without shaking the Bulls' hands. I would have been pissed too if the guys who I had shaken hands with when they beat me just walked off the court when it was my turn to be on the winning side.
I hear you. But this is the same treatment P's got from the Celtics. And this is the same thing that just happened to Lebron James. Isiah not on the Dream Team was the biggest snub in sports history. Again, I'm not a Jordan fan, so I don't care if he would have played or not. But this is the moment when the NBA made the mistake of catering to the best "individuals" above the best "team". Jordan wasn't the only player that took issue w/ Isiah. NBA should have sought to reconcile everyone IMO.
Jordan had been disrespecting the Pistons all series long with talking about the game could become a clean game and the world wants to see Detroit to lose. If I was Isiah I wouldn't of shook his hand either.
Greg, I have news for you: EVERYONE hated the Pistons between 88-91 for how physical they played. Jordan wasn't the only superstar who noticed it, Bird and anyone else not on the Pistons hated them just as much. I'm not saying they were a bad team, just that their criticism wasn't completely undeserved.
Still though, Jordan just wanted to be a prick and down everthing they accomplished. The Celtics were a very physical team too too and Jordan was being a prick cause he was ahead in that series, if he was losing he would of kept his mouth shut.
Magic over Zeke. I love Isiah the player, despite the fact that I'm a Bulls fan, but Magic was better. The guy stepped up and won a ring his first year while playing center in game six of the Finals. I know Zeke did a lot of impressive stuff, but that achievement just sticks out in my mind more.
at 2:37 I remember watching that game, recorded it and used it on so many chumps when I was a kid. I use to want Isiah's crossover because it was by far the best. Sick skills.
There were more shooting players, now there are a lot of BIG guys that the only thing they can do is dunk... if they want to be great players they need to look at Kareem Abdul-Jabbar ;)
i agree he should have been on the original dream team because he beat the best that people say who r the greastest of all time plus he had back to back titles stockton did not have at the time went to the finals
great player, amongst the top 3 point guards of all time (no john stockton is not), so so coach, horible general manager. still think it was a crime that he was left off the original dream team...stockton should not have been on that team!!!
john stockton was a tough nose point guard who deserves to be inducted into the hall of fame but by no means was he the best point guard in the league. he was not even the best in his era. he was nowhere near the point guard of magic or isiah thomas. these were two point guards who coould not only find the open man but could take over the game and score at will. they also defended their position well.
stockton was a good team defender as he was a liability man to man.
so stockton led the league, as he found karl malone who ran over players and it was rare that he was whistled for an offensive call. he was a white player who the nba pushed to the top cause they were in need of another white superstar. isiah use to do stockton everytime they played.
stop with this white player shit man... stop hatin on the man,
i'm tried whenever there is a non-black guy, the black nigga always gotta say "well it's because he was not black and if he was black he wouldnt be special...."
stockton is the best PURE PG, Magic could play all positions... muthafucka played Center.
the truth. how many times does a white guy show up and do a little something and they want to put him on top. it is because blacks dominate the game and white folks are the ones who fill the arenas so of course they want white stars.
magic was still the best point guard regardless of the fact that he could play all 5 positions, just shows how great he was. what about isiah, stockton still could not compare to isiah (2 rings).
rings do not make the man cause ewing, barkley, and karl malone were great. to me it does not take away from what they did. but there are times that people are in position to win them and they don't produce, like stockton, he sucked on the biggest stage.
stockton is not even in the same class as magic and isiah. when a white guy comes along that is great, i will give him credit. larry bird was the last great white player as there are none playing now. it is what it is.
last great white player? What about steve nash? twice mvp and arguably the best free throw shooter of all time... not to mention his great 3 point perc. and ability to set up shots like no other point guard in the nba...
u heard it right, larry legend was the last great white player. steve nash got the mvp 1 yr because he deserved it, the 2nd cause he was white and had a good yr. so he shoots f-throws good. dude is a defensive dud and liability as he can't guard his own shadow. right now dude is not in the same class as c paul, t parker, and d williams. he is a good passer but that does not make him great. sorry but there are no great white players in the league.
nash is a great, underrated player (he wasn´t on all-star) and there are some good white players like nowitzki or d-will. racism in any way is bullshit.
I´m mexican by the way, so there´s no race preference.
dude, nash is one of the most overrated players in the league. he is probably about the 7th or 8th best p guard in the league. nash has no defensive skills, dirk plays no defense and is like casper in the big series as he usually does not show up. it is not racism it is what it is.
He and Isiah were both great players just in different ways. The reason why Stockton was chosen for the DT was because he fit better. They needed a facilitator. They didnt need Isiah because they had enough scorers. Players like Stockton who play within themselves almost never come around so he can NEVER be overrated. You cant say Malone is good without taking Stockton too. Stockton helped get Malone his 36928 points he couldnt do it alone. And Malone has 4578 turnovers. Is he overrated too? No
Do you really think that Jordan could do that with Chuck Daly coaching? Isiah Thomas was a great player but was definetely not good for team chemistry and Daly knew it from years of coaching him. Besides that they had Magic on the team and he was a really good friend of Isiah's and if that was going on he wouldnt allow it either. Lastly look at Stockton's minutes and tell me if you think Isiah would be ok with playing so little. Stockton didnt complain despite Laettner playing more than he did.
Dude everything you say make sense but trust me it is well publicised. Remember Jordan was locked in a feud with the bad boys of Detroit back then. When they asked him he said I am not doing it if isiah is there. I don't need to look at minutes I remember those games very well. Yes I am that old. Stockton prob did not play as he is a gent and would not want to play in games that were not competetive but I am reaching on that. The Jordan stuff is legit.
Who are you with all this insight? You're spewing stuff out of thin air. You don't anything. Stockton is overrated. You're speculating is painful on the eyes.
Yeah because you know everything and the all time assists and steals leader is overrated. Sure, now enlighten me with your amazing basketball knowledge and overall grasp of life in general as mere mortals like me could never aspire to know as much as you do. What was I thinking in stating the completely true fact that while Isiah was a basketball god that he was also an incredible asshole.
Now you're actually making sense... you need no further enlightenment young grasshopper. It's as if you took the words right out of my mouth... I can be condensing too... you want to call someone an asshole, just look in the mirror.
No I meant "condensing"!... Of course I meant "condescending" you knucklehead! Do you spell check everybody's post?... It was pretty funny though! Classic! This is what happen when we take a game too seriously. ;>
I'm sorry, but Stockton was overrated. I can name 10 PG's guards I'd rather have than him. Mark Price had a better overall game than Stockton... Stockton is a political favorite... and that's about it. Stockton and Isiah head-to-head Stockton gets waxed. One season Isiah averaged 42 ppg against Stockton. That was a record for a single season average per match up at that time... probably still is a record.
John Stockton is not overrated. Offensively, he would have been loved by some big-men who point guards couldn't get them the ball. I think he could have made an average big-man a good big-man.
Maybe that's debatable. But I'd say any time Stockton is on the Dream Team over Isiah Thomas, then John Stockton is overrated. CP3, Isiah, Mark Price, Steve Nash, Jason Kidd, all are more talented players than Stockton. Stockton's numbers are so inflated because he played almost 20 years. It's the same thing as the debate between Emmit Smith and Barry Sanders. Emmit holds the records, but everybody knows Barry was better. Same as Isiah and Stockton. Or Stockton and almost anybody else
Well the list goes on of players we could name that were probably better individuals than Stockton. Stockton is very good, but he was one dimensional. like a Ben Wallace, Dennis Rodman, Dikembe Mutombo. Many of the other guys we mentioned do both scoring and passing, night in and night out. You look at career stats & rate between 13 pts 10 ast. or a player with 20 pts 10 ast. That's the difference between Stockton & some of these other guys.
If I am not mistakening, I thought it was "10 guards I'd rather have than him". Sometimes, preference has nothing to do with quality or talent or having an overall basketball game.
Also, I presume you're implying a one-dimensional basketball player isn't as worthy as a two-dimensional (scoring and passing) basketball player. Furthermore, the three guys you mentioned (having one-dimensional basketball games) could possibly end-up in the Hall of Fame.
I don't want to keep blowing up this blog with my post. John S. was good. Those other players are good, in their own right, possibly HOF players too. But John S. isn't in the same class as Isiah & Magic. Those guys brought more to the table, & accomplished more & if they had played 18 years they'd probably have higher career numbers than JS. JS is closer to J. Kidd/Mark Jackson than Magic or Isiah. What does Stockton do that nobody else can? He never took over games. So what's the hype?
@chrismo707 the "stockton was a better defender than isiah" argument is a lil moot since 1) by no means was he a great defender, but isiah's d was good enough to the point that it didn't hinder what was arguably the best defensive team of the 80s and 2) isiah lit up stockton's d when detroit played utah, most notably the meeting between the 2 after the '92 olympic team had been announced and isiah was snubbed in favor of stockton 'cause jordan hated him where isiah dropped 44 on stockton.
@pinksto4 i never said stockton was a better player than isiah, or even a better defender. some dude said "stockton averaged 13 points and 10 assists where other players average 20 points and 10 assists" and i simply said yea, stockton also had 15000 steals or some odd shit. isiah was a beast...so was stockton.
There is no way that any of the players that you mentioned in one of your posts is even remotely close to better than Isiah. Chauncey, Tim Hardaway, Dennis and Kevin Johnson? No Way
Okay, there's a lot more merit to your comment than wishing to see Isiah Thomas in his early Detroit Piston's days go head-to-head, up-and-down the court for 48 minutes against Tim Hardaway in his early Golden State Warriors' days for 82 games.
yo Im black myself but you need to stop with this white or black BS. Stockton and Nash both deserved their credit. Nash has been the best and most exciting PG in the league in 05-07 era. Stockton was one the smartest PG of all-time. Color doesnt mean shit.
Chris Paul is probably the closest we got to Isiah Thomas only Isiah was a better 3 point shooter and played more above the rim but he is taller but CP3 is sick though and i am biased toward short basketball players because i am one too lol
playboy i said isaih was the best short pg of all time magic is the best tall pg hell we can say bob cousy is the greatest of all time he got the most rings

An icredible player; almost seems like he has been written out of NBA history.
Partly due to pissing off Jordan and partly due to his life since he stopped playing.
Having watched him, when I was young, I consider him one of the best players I have ever seen.

MrEvolution513 2 years ago
The Pistons were assholes. People don't like assholes. It was not tacky for MJ to bad mouth them, its called Karma.
Flipper79able 2 years ago
Very good debate some of you are having about the Pistons. Despite the unlikable players on that team, they won 2 straight titles (89-90) and were robbed in June 88 of beating LA, so it could have been 3.
The foul call against Laimbeer in game 6 against Kareem would never have happened if it wasn't Detroit.
I fully agree that Isiah, Rodman, Laimbeer, Mahorn (and Aguirre the next year) were assholes, But you can't deny what a strong NBA machine they were.
To be cont'd....
MrEvolution513 2 years ago 8
LoL...thats why they called them...THE BAD BOYS!!!!
Denverboi21983 2 years ago 5

@JRXZIBIT98

Ok, I've heard a lot about Jordan supposedly having Zeke kicked off the Dream Team, but then why didn't Magic or Daly say anything? You'd think his friend and coach would have spoken up for him.
Droog13 2 years ago
It is irritating, isn't it? I think Daly was upset over this & it probably had something to do with why he didn't return to the Pistons after DT. He probably couldn't look Isiah in the eye. From Magic's seat, it might make it an easier debate over who's better if he were on the DT & Isiah weren't? Also Magic was still sore that Isiah came public about Magic screening his calls when Zeke injured his ankle in the 88' Finals. & LA wouldn't let Isiah use training facilities to nurse his ankle.
acox11 2 years ago
Even if Michael did say that it's not like Isiah didn't do anything to piss him off. I'm not saying it was right but Zeke did walk off the court after the Bulls beat the Pistons in 91 without shaking the Bulls' hands. I would have been pissed too if the guys who I had shaken hands with when they beat me just walked off the court when it was my turn to be on the winning side.
Droog13 2 years ago
NBA should have sought to reconcile everyone IMO.
acox11 2 years ago 3
AMEN. the detroit pistons were probably one of jordans least favorite

Jordan had been disrespecting the Pistons all series long with talking about the game could become a clean game and the world wants to see Detroit to lose. If I was Isiah I wouldn't of shook his hand either.
gregpimpmack2 2 years ago 3
Greg, I have news for you: EVERYONE hated the Pistons between 88-91 for how physical they played. Jordan wasn't the only superstar who noticed it, Bird and anyone else not on the Pistons hated them just as much. I'm not saying they were a bad team, just that their criticism wasn't completely undeserved.
Droog13 2 years ago
guess that are legitimate feelings for the "bad boys" of the leaue
keniffkeniff 2 years ago
Still though, Jordan just wanted to be a prick and down everthing they accomplished. The Celtics were a very physical team too too and Jordan was being a prick cause he was ahead in that series, if he was losing he would of kept his mouth shut.

john stockton was a tough nose point guard who deserves to be inducted into the hall of fame but by no means was he the best point guard in the league. he was not even the best in his era. he was nowhere near the point guard of magic or isiah thomas. these were two point guards who coould not only find the open man but could take over the game and score at will. they also defended their position well.
stockton was a good team defender as he was a liability man to man.

J15D17L19 2 years ago
so stockton led the league, as he found karl malone who ran over players and it was rare that he was whistled for an offensive call. he was a white player who the nba pushed to the top cause they were in need of another white superstar. isiah use to do stockton everytime they played.
myronkelly67 2 years ago
stop with this white player shit man... stop hatin on the man,
i'm tried whenever there is a non-black guy, the black nigga always gotta say "well it's because he was not black and if he was black he wouldnt be special...."
stockton is the best PURE PG, Magic could play all positions... muthafucka played Center.
Stockton can't play center, he is PURE PG..
kai0shin 2 years ago
the truth. how many times does a white guy show up and do a little something and they want to put him on top. it is because blacks dominate the game and white folks are the ones who fill the arenas so of course they want white stars.
magic was still the best point guard regardless of the fact that he could play all 5 positions, just shows how great he was. what about isiah, stockton still could not compare to isiah (2 rings).
just like steve nash, overrated.
myronkelly67 2 years ago
so ur saying rings is what makes him better?
what bout barkley? Reggie Miller, Ewing??? they did not win a championship...
does that mean derek fisher who has multiple championships is better than isiah or stockton??
stop hating on the white guy man.... and yes isiah is great, not as good as stockton....
kai0shin 2 years ago
rings do not make the man cause ewing, barkley, and karl malone were great. to me it does not take away from what they did. but there are times that people are in position to win them and they don't produce, like stockton, he sucked on the biggest stage.
stockton is not even in the same class as magic and isiah. when a white guy comes along that is great, i will give him credit. larry bird was the last great white player as there are none playing now. it is what it is.
myronkelly67 2 years ago 2
last great white player? What about steve nash? twice mvp and arguably the best free throw shooter of all time... not to mention his great 3 point perc. and ability to set up shots like no other point guard in the nba...
trainspottingtitus 2 years ago
u heard it right, larry legend was the last great white player. steve nash got the mvp 1 yr because he deserved it, the 2nd cause he was white and had a good yr. so he shoots f-throws good. dude is a defensive dud and liability as he can't guard his own shadow. right now dude is not in the same class as c paul, t parker, and d williams. he is a good passer but that does not make him great. sorry but there are no great white players in the league.
myronkelly67 2 years ago
nash is a great, underrated player (he wasn´t on all-star) and there are some good white players like nowitzki or d-will. racism in any way is bullshit.
I´m mexican by the way, so there´s no race preference.
carlospinedah 2 years ago
dude, nash is one of the most overrated players in the league. he is probably about the 7th or 8th best p guard in the league. nash has no defensive skills, dirk plays no defense and is like casper in the big series as he usually does not show up. it is not racism it is what it is.
myronkelly67 2 years ago 3
He and Isiah were both great players just in different ways. The reason why Stockton was chosen for the DT was because he fit better. They needed a facilitator. They didnt need Isiah because they had enough scorers. Players like Stockton who play within themselves almost never come around so he can NEVER be overrated. You cant say Malone is good without taking Stockton too. Stockton helped get Malone his 36928 points he couldnt do it alone. And Malone has 4578 turnovers. Is he overrated too? No
Paniro123 2 years ago
Sorry this is total BS. The real reason Isiah was not chosen was that a certain player said 'either him or me'.
Klinickal 2 years ago 3
Do you really think that Jordan could do that with Chuck Daly coaching? Isiah Thomas was a great player but was definetely not good for team chemistry and Daly knew it from years of coaching him. Besides that they had Magic on the team and he was a really good friend of Isiah's and if that was going on he wouldnt allow it either. Lastly look at Stockton's minutes and tell me if you think Isiah would be ok with playing so little. Stockton didnt complain despite Laettner playing more than he did.
Paniro123 2 years ago
Dude everything you say make sense but trust me it is well publicised. Remember Jordan was locked in a feud with the bad boys of Detroit back then. When they asked him he said I am not doing it if isiah is there. I don't need to look at minutes I remember those games very well. Yes I am that old. Stockton prob did not play as he is a gent and would not want to play in games that were not competetive but I am reaching on that. The Jordan stuff is legit.
Klinickal 2 years ago
Who are you with all this insight? You're spewing stuff out of thin air. You don't anything. Stockton is overrated. You're speculating is painful on the eyes.
acox11 2 years ago
Yeah because you know everything and the all time assists and steals leader is overrated. Sure, now enlighten me with your amazing basketball knowledge and overall grasp of life in general as mere mortals like me could never aspire to know as much as you do. What was I thinking in stating the completely true fact that while Isiah was a basketball god that he was also an incredible asshole.
Paniro123 2 years ago
Now you're actually making sense... you need no further enlightenment young grasshopper. It's as if you took the words right out of my mouth... I can be condensing too... you want to call someone an asshole, just look in the mirror.

acox11 2 years ago
Whoa!!! Stockton is far from overrated...Thats a ridiculous statement buddy.
CptBlkAmerica2 2 years ago
I'm sorry, but Stockton was overrated. I can name 10 PG's guards I'd rather have than him. Mark Price had a better overall game than Stockton... Stockton is a political favorite... and that's about it. Stockton and Isiah head-to-head Stockton gets waxed. One season Isiah averaged 42 ppg against Stockton. That was a record for a single season average per match up at that time... probably still is a record.
acox11 2 years ago
John Stockton is not overrated. Offensively, he would have been loved by some big-men who point guards couldn't get them the ball. I think he could have made an average big-man a good big-man.
lmorganjr 2 years ago
Maybe that's debatable. But I'd say any time Stockton is on the Dream Team over Isiah Thomas, then John Stockton is overrated. CP3, Isiah, Mark Price, Steve Nash, Jason Kidd, all are more talented players than Stockton. Stockton's numbers are so inflated because he played almost 20 years. It's the same thing as the debate between Emmit Smith and Barry Sanders. Emmit holds the records, but everybody knows Barry was better. Same as Isiah and Stockton. Or Stockton and almost anybody else
acox11 2 years ago
What about Tim Hardaway, Chauncey Billups, Kevin Johnson, or Dennis Johnson?
lmorganjr 2 years ago
Well the list goes on of players we could name that were probably better individuals than Stockton. Stockton is very good, but he was one dimensional. like a Ben Wallace, Dennis Rodman, Dikembe Mutombo. Many of the other guys we mentioned do both scoring and passing, night in and night out. You look at career stats & rate between 13 pts 10 ast. or a player with 20 pts 10 ast. That's the difference between Stockton & some of these other guys.
acox11 2 years ago
If I am not mistakening, I thought it was "10 guards I'd rather have than him". Sometimes, preference has nothing to do with quality or talent or having an overall basketball game.
Also, I presume you're implying a one-dimensional basketball player isn't as worthy as a two-dimensional (scoring and passing) basketball player. Furthermore, the three guys you mentioned (having one-dimensional basketball games) could possibly end-up in the Hall of Fame.
lmorganjr 2 years ago
I don't want to keep blowing up this blog with my post. John S. was good. Those other players are good, in their own right, possibly HOF players too. But John S. isn't in the same class as Isiah & Magic. Those guys brought more to the table, & accomplished more & if they had played 18 years they'd probably have higher career numbers than JS. JS is closer to J. Kidd/Mark Jackson than Magic or Isiah. What does Stockton do that nobody else can? He never took over games. So what's the hype?
acox11 2 years ago
@acox11 didnt stockton have about 5 million steals?? thats the difference...there is a defensive side of the game too
chrismo707 1 year ago
@chrismo707 the "stockton was a better defender than isiah" argument is a lil moot since 1) by no means was he a great defender, but isiah's d was good enough to the point that it didn't hinder what was arguably the best defensive team of the 80s and 2) isiah lit up stockton's d when detroit played utah, most notably the meeting between the 2 after the '92 olympic team had been announced and isiah was snubbed in favor of stockton 'cause jordan hated him where isiah dropped 44 on stockton.
pinksto4 1 year ago
@pinksto4 i never said stockton was a better player than isiah, or even a better defender. some dude said "stockton averaged 13 points and 10 assists where other players average 20 points and 10 assists" and i simply said yea, stockton also had 15000 steals or some odd shit. isiah was a beast...so was stockton.

bulzeye091 2 years ago 3
Okay, there's a lot more merit to your comment than wishing to see Isiah Thomas in his early Detroit Piston's days go head-to-head, up-and-down the court for 48 minutes against Tim Hardaway in his early Golden State Warriors' days for 82 games.
