  • I will try your way. My mom-in-law swears the flavor is better if you leave all the leaves on (but honestly, I think it makes them bitter).. I never tried putting them up in jars...sounds like a good idea. Thanks for the tip.

  • we cook ours different, we cut the tip the same as you do, but we also cut down diagonally from the end to the tip on one side then the same on the other side and rip out the outer leaves (should be similar to a cone shape lol) cut the bottom about half an inch and boil it for a few hours (we make a crap load at a time and put them in glass jars so we can eat them throughout the year lol thats why it takes that long)

  • @0126achang but if you only have a few cook it to your desire time...its easier for us lol and it doesn't leave the milky bubbly foam :D you should try it. If you do tell me how it goes :D

  • Thanks for the vid. I just dug up a few shoots today and will cook them this evening. I thought I'd try, but balked when a few people told me it takes 8 hours of cooking. Anyway, rice bran and chili pepper for half an hour sounds like a better idea! :)

  • Kia ora, thanks for an interesting video. I've only purchased frozen bamboo shoots from my local Asian market, and have wondered how they prepare them in their raw state! Now I know and enjoy them in my Udon soups and stir fries. Thank you.
