I truly hate to ruin your nice lil' view of the end of the Universe, but there are many in the scientific community that feel that Gravity will overcome the inertia of the big bang eventually, and the Universe will go through a reversing process and eventually collapse into a singularity. A bit more violent than your ending.
Actually that's a much nicer fate for the universe: bang, crunch and bang again... it means life and thought can possibly come again. When I studied astrophysics about 7 years ago, the big crunch theory was out of favour... but I admit I haven't kept up with that part of cosmology.
Perhaps it will be possible to bore our way into another dimension come the end of the universe.
