Whatever negative comments are posted here about Eric Clapton's appearance or vocals, let me attest to the fact, from attending one of his live performances, that he really can make a guitar wail!
@GuitarMaster6567 -I believe such coats were called "Dusters" and are often seen in Western films. James Coburn wore one when he rode his motorcycle in the film Fist Full of Dynamite.
The little solo in this song inspired my love of guitar years ago. Amazing tone, and incredible musicality! I wish there were more musicians that listened to Clapton these days.
@acecat44 : They are the very talented Laura Creamer and the also highly talented singer-songwriter Marcy Levy. Marcy also wrote songs with Clapton that became hits. Other major talent on the stage are veteran bass man Donald Dunn (Booker T and the MGs) the gifted guitarist Tim Renwick (of Pink Floyd), keyboard artist Chris Stainton and drummer Jamie Oldaker. One hell of a band!
@RachelR96 It's really hard to compare them, I listen to more blusey type stuff, my fav Clapton songs are Bell Bottom Blues, Layla, and Presence of the lord.
I just finished reading Clapton's autobiography--besides being an incredible talent, he's lucky to be alive. He's seen and been through it all, and has managed to come out on the other side as one hell of a great human being (and dad!--that alone makes him extremely cool!!) He tells the hard truth about his life without excuses--not many can do that. Hey EC--I live in Worthington too--next time you're visiting the inlaws let's chat!
@drwho481 Funny thing...when Hendrix was unknown and went over to London to be promoted, his single request was to meet Eric Clapton as Clapton was legendary at that time...he did and they did become friends
RON PAUL 2012 - JOIN THE R3VOLUTION!! !!!! END THOSE FEMA CONCENTRATION CAMPS IN THE USA..... see on Youtube.com or Jesse Ventura's TRUTV..... they coming for us, KEEP YOUR GUNS ! Love, an American Patriot
@CbassNL You may want to check out the J. Peterman catalog--it's been a while, but I think they still have a coat like that. You're so right, it's a fantastic piece of work. One thing I have to ask, tho. Who are the back-up singers and WTH are they wearing??
I do wish that Clapton would return to this type of guitar play. Even just for one record. I do like his blues music as well, but it would be refreshing to see him master this type of guitar rock again.
As some modern Cockneys, using their rhyming slang, would say, Slowhand is "the dog's Jackson Pollacks on the guitar." Over the years he has made lots of bread (and honey), but EC has had many a problem his the trouble and strifes. And losing his son was a bitter, body blow. Through his pain we have gained great music.
2:42 when the camera falls off... OH NO!!! That would have been an expensive accident. The director must have felt, "Well might as well use that shot." It's probably the most famous shot from the video by now.
God, I love the 80's! Does anyone out there remember that this song was used on the movie, "Space Camp". Can anyone tell me, exactly, when in the movie that the song was played? I can!
He said try but he also uses a C instead of the right letter-K. You gotta give it up to him, though. He nailed it. I'm not a fan of how he rhymed cross with boss but the rest of it is decent. I still feel so terribly awful about what happened to his child. I weep with you, Eric. We all do. Tears in Heaven to be sure :,( :,( :,( I'm not trying anything. I'm a doer-not a tryer. You can take that 2 the bank and cash it!
God-a-Mighty, what a groove. Duck Dunne on bass - bass the way bass was meant to be played. I always thought this tune was as close to "Layla" as anything Eric did after the Dominoes era...
2. Man, I thought my workplace was impersonal, but even it doesn't give out matching shirts to all employees with numbers on them.
3. I was 12 years old when this video came out, totally oblivious to the legend of Eric Clapton. I just knew I liked this song. But because of this song I discovered the legend of Eric Clapton. Forever Man, indeed.
Shaun Murphy is great as a session musician singer or as lead..and there are few people who can pull it off !!...I love this video..Shaun is a true pro.....and I think Mr. Clapton knew that when he first heard her and then hired her. ...Shaun, you're the best !
Happy Birthday E.C.! Tomorrow 3/30 is Claptons birthday ! Many people overlook the wonderful things he is doing, basically dedicating his life to helping others, and paying for much of it. As great a person as he is a musician, he is an inspiration to me,
1985 and the Behind the Sun album were a true return of the guitar 'god'. After around 8 years or more of coasting and several hit and miss albums, the pieces all finally came back to together again. This was one of, if not 'the' most important albums of his career, because it brought him back. And he's remained on top ever since.
I saw him live and while I applaud his technical abilities as a guitarist, I have all Cream albums and Derek and the Dominos, he had "0" stage presence. I think the Chuck Norris thing was a joke, dude!!!! .....Actually I thought this was Kenneth Branaugh......
