Amazing Review! I was looking at this car, and the 2012 nissan versa. Which would you recommend? Im an 18 year old freshman in college. also, if you start the car by the buttons on the key, do you have to put the key in the ignition and crank it?? thanks
@JmanXmvs I have a review on the 2012 Nissan Versa 1.6 SV as well as this. If you go to my channel, and search through my videos, then you will find it in there.
@JmanXmvs I'm a 19-year-old college Freshman as well! I have my heart set on the Cruze, which is what I recommend you look at. However, this car is pretty nice as well!!! The other cars I've considered are the Civic, Corolla, Mazda 3, and Jetta, but I still think I'm going to get the Cruze. Best of luck!
@JmanXmvs i own the 2012 Sonic I am also a freshman in college its a great car lots of room my ex had a versa and personally i like my sonic better and yes you do need to put the key into the car and crank it to turn it on i highly recommend this car to anyone looking to get an affordable fun car to drive
So not to worry FORD is the only true American Built car maker. They have announce they are going to make all their vehicles here in the states as of Jan 1st 2012. While GM major parts such as engines and transmissions will still be made over seas..GM is not longer a true American car maker.. Engine made in Korea and Transmission made in Austria. Like how GM gives jobs to over seas people and not us Americans.
@soyntgo4it Oh Fords engines are built in mexico and their proud mustang transmissions are made in china..they made be assembled in america but the parts arnt made in america..Ford will never truely make everything in the usa especially when they consider them selves to be a world wide company. So dont fool yourself until you see it with your own eyes.
@pranksterDoug First Ford transmissions are not longer made in China the Contract is over with as of Jan 1st 2012 so STFU on that.. They are also are opening up 8 more assembly plants they currently just open 3 of them now. Don't comment if you don't know shit on whats going on with Ford ok cause you don't know shit. Go buy your POS GM product. Ford Engines are not Built in Mexico everything is now built in the USA JAN 1ST 2012 AGAIN STFU. Next time watch and read articles..
This guy did a very good intro of the Sonic. This is one car I would want to see in a show room. I have already seen on hatchback and a Sonic sedan on the road. It look cool and stylish. Nice car.
Because of your Chevy Sonic presentation...I am sold and will buy a Chevy Sonic. If I were closer to your dealership I'd give u the business. Thank you....your boss needs to give you a raise.
Forgot to add, overall I love it. its perfect inside. I mean its not like im going to be looking over head of my car from the air like in GTA. The biggest in my opinion is the rear end thats all, the biggest drawback and only!
The interior looks better than my 2010 Honda Civic. The only reason I bought another Civic(had a 2004, traded it in for a 2010) was because of the excellent reliability. The exterior I can live with on the Civic, but I really had to try and accept the interior. The digital instrumental panel here on the Sonic is focused in one area..the usual area of a car. The Civic split instrument panel is ugly and dumb...and the interior is cheap plastic that scratches easy.
I have 2010 ford focus sel i love it but this car is niiiice!!! It looks like the impala's lil brother. I'm glad they did away with the Aveo that car was just something to save on gas and get around but this car might take chevy to the top
...I JUST GOT THIS CAR...BUT THE CHEVY SONIC LT....AND IT HAS ALMOST EVERYTHING IT SHOWS ON THIS CAR....THE 2LT ITS THE CHEAPEST..AINT GOT NOTHING....ITS JUST PLANE....BUT ITS A GOOD CAR...ITS FAST...AND..GREAT ON GAS....I LIKE IT AM HAPPY...
Wow easy to use radio and AC controls again! Jump in any import rental car and you can't figure out the insane about of controls. You should be able to jump in any car you aren't familiar with and figure out the A/C in less than 15 seconds. Gas cap door on the wrong side to annoy US buyers.
@GunsOfThePhoenix typically manuals will not be offerered with a remote start as vehicle may possibly be parked in first gear. so i really doubt manual Sonic would be offered with a remote start.
I"m glad to see this feature becoming more common.

I will buy a sonic anyday over a chinese made fiesta. Guys, the more cars we buy from GM, Ford, and Chrysler/Dodge means that the money is largely kept in the USA for research and developement. Buy american, preferably american built. My parents bought me a mitsubishi, but the day i buy my first car it will be built in America
@setsallset Hey man, all props for toyota, they build many trucks and cars here, but anything over 30,000 is most likely built overseas. just know their car reliability is slowing down and american cars are getting better very quickly, test drive one from ford or chevy, hell even dodge is doing better (i would not buy one yet). But if toyota puts your mind at ease, buy one, they are good cars
@JohnDPearson90 I have seen the reliability issue these last few years but I'd rather buy into a company that actually cares about Americans. One of my biggest gripe against GM (Government Motors), other than the EV1 issue, is that they plan to use half a billion dollars of taxpayers money to build a plant in MEXICO. Yeah... Bailout money well spent.. I have no big issue with Chevy though.
Definitely looks to be much improved over the outgoing Aveo. Just curious, is there no water temp gauge for the instrument panel? How would one be able to tell if the car is about to overheat if a thermostat or radiator fails in the future?

@reno94587 I figured as much! That's my only draw back on getting this car, the payments would take for ever, but the car seems worth it tho'....sigh, decisions, decisions.
@Orbot - If you have good credit, you can get the 0% financing option through GM (make the finance guy give it to you or go to a credit union to do it). They will spread it over 5 years but nowadays places try to make you do 6 years to make the payments more attractive. Pay $500/month and it will be done in probably 3 years at most with a modest downpayment.
@reno94587 Thanks man! Wow, u really know ur stuff, very helpful! My credit may be uh...."questionable," lol, but It's definitely not horrendous, so I think they can work with me.
@Orbot - Get approved before (within 30 days) you roll to the dealership. Guaranteed you will get a better deal than that rat trap. Good luck! I hope you get it!
@Mds9608 Well the Aveo wasn't good. The Cavalier wasn't good and GM changed it to the Cobalt which was just as bad. GM has never really made good smaller cars.
@DeadofWinter321 So you are telling me that you are judging a book by it's cover. Put it this way, the last two gerenations of the Ford focus were not that great also. But the new Focus that Ford had come out with is truly amazing. So by going by your logic, that new Focus must be a POS...
@Mds9608 I can prove your theory about the Focus wrong..I have a 2002 Ford Focus with 168k miles and only had one problem with the ignition. Other than that, it's been an excellent car since I got it. Give the Sonic some time though, the new Focus will more than likely have more appeal than this once it ages.
@DeadofWinter321 So it's just like my Aunt's Cavalier with 220,000KM, the only major problem they had with that was ignition as well. Also, my cosion has a 2007 Cobalt with 98,000 KM and they had no problems with it so far. Right?
@camaroman101 the spark not yet arrived here. will arrived over here maybe in 2012 the Spark, sonic, and anothers.. but his cost maybe is over US$25.000
did you know how much is the Camaro V6 here? US$85.000 or US$90.000
Great review Bobby! Although this isn't my kind of car, I have to say I'm very impressed. I really dislike that gauge cluster, but the unique styling cues (vents, lights, etc.), great gas milage, beautiful interior, and the fact that it's American made make this car a winner in my book. Nice work Chevy!
Nice review Bobby! I have been looking for one on the Sonic, and was glad I saw yours. What are those weird holes right next to the a/c vents in the center console? They look out of place, like something is missing there.
Hmmm..interesting about the headlight pods not being enclosed. I have a feeling that's going to lead into issues with impact strikes on the corners of the housings as well as being a PIA to clean around them
You have another view before Kyle again. Looking forward to you getting the first close-up view of the 2013 Kia Rio and the Austrailian Chevy Caprice.
You have another view before Kyle again. Looking forward to you getting the first close-up view of the 2013 Kia Rio and the Austrailian Chevy Caprice.
FYI it's not leather on the seats. It's some sort of vinyl or leather like material. Also you can get a 6 speed manual with the 1.4l and a 5 speed manual with the base engine. I like the styling of this car and the Sonic recently was named a Top Safety Pick by the IIHS and it has rear seat mounted side impact airbags (one of the few cars in its class to offer them and one of the few cars to have them as standard equipment).

Finally GM now has a chance in the sub-compact class.

Hmmm..interesting about the headlight pods not being enclosed. I have a feeling that's going to lead into issues with impact strikes on the corners of the housings as well as being a PIA to clean around them
