well , proton cars done well in local rally race in malaysia , so i think why not . but i think trying to get someone like petter solberg is a little too ambitious though
In my opinion, why shouldn't we go for it.. never mind about what championship they are entering but the experience and the knowledge that they learn afterward that make proton better. Look, even Hyundai entered rally once. Go for it. learn and make us proud.
however, rotary require high maintainance cost and FC, If u really rich then you can use rotary. i think the petronas RE01 engine is quite impressive as the power output is 100ps/liter. I think the Proton Satria will be much more local if its using the petronas engine instead of the current Renault engine which is use in 1.8L waja. The satria platform have a lot of potential as all the important aspect is just right. that is my oppinion. if im wrong please correct me.

the car is running on mem budget not proton.because they have been patner with proton before during the pert days and they are using proton so its rather of a free publisiti for proton,proton is only the co sponsor,even proton budget for their motorsport divisyen have been cut dramatically i doubt that proton will 100% sponsor wrc.
what i don't get is how are costs reduced dramatically? I know s2000 class isn't running turbos but they're still 2.0 L and 4wd, so there's still some cost there. Is turbo development that expensive as compared to NA?
Everyone's joining wrc for 2010 so Proton is by no means wasting money. They did it back in the day with their previous kit car so why not do it again

let's me clearing misleading info here.. FIA already releasing new 2010 WRC regulation. On 2010, all WRC specs are pretty similar with S2000 specs due to cutting cost bcoz of global economy crisis. The only different both WRC and IRC spec on 2010 are bolt-on-turbo kit, gearbox and electronics gadgets. And Neo S2000 can participate in WRC on 2010 if MEM upgrading S2000 with fitting bolt-on-turbo kit, WRC gearbox and WRC electronics gadgets..
Yes the car has potential. But why waste it on Solberg(big wages etc...)Let the guy (N.McShea)who got the car them times on Rally Ireland have a go....After all he has raised quite a few eyebrows with the car and would have probally had a good result except for the electrical problem.
I agree. Niall did a great job with the car, plus he's an experienced ex-PWRC champ. To add to that, i think MEM may be recruiting Alister McRae as a driver too.

It will be possible for Proton to enter the WRC soon even in this tough financial crisis with the approval of S2000 regulations by the FIA. Costs will be reduced tremendously, and more manufacturers will be eager to get involved since S2000 cars are so much more affordable to run and maintain as compared to current WR cars. So far, MEM's tests have shown positive results particularly in the 2009 Rally Ireland where this car has proven its potential on day 1 with a 3rd fastest stage time win.
