Put a MLS uprated head gasket on one, I have on mine then had it it remapped to 200 bhp . It will be as good as gold as long as you dont rev the nuts off it from cold.
i had an mg zr from new and it had covered a 107k before i sold it and that was on the original head gasket infact it was on original everything i never changed anything apart from oil and filters
actually the engine is a honda engine and has a fault with the headgasket moving when the engine is on, it is made worse when the revs are higher and consiquently has a average life of about 50,000 miles, honda corrected this problem by using a different material for the gaskets but rover didnt, mabye this was because they could earn more money in repairs or what but heating the engine up with only work for so long till the gasket cracks and fails, and yes i did own a mg zr and the gasket went.
ACTUALLY the engine isn't hondas engine its been rovers since the beginning. About the headgaskets that part is true but MY engine has had a full stripdown and every gasket replaced with the uprated ones, new re-enforced oil rail, steel dowels etc... It wasnt Honda that corrected the problem it was Powertrain, as to what the problem was theres many different problems that add up to cause HGF. Small coolant capacity, aluminium head that expands more than the block, plastic locating dowels etc...
@JGUNN06 true, the K series was built while honda was still partnered with rover. the engine was a 100% British design. head gasket failures were common in cars that were not maintained. I have seen mint 15 year old rovers still running on the original head gasket. The main cause of the failure was head-shuffle but was corrected towards the end of MGR, but you can just fit the uprated gaskets etc and you should be good for the life of the car. Mate lovely ZT
Honda have never used the K-Series in any of their cars, the engine is a Rover design.
The reason the head gaskets go are numerous, however the main cause is because of the engine's open deck, damp liner aluminium block with cast iron cylinder liners. This design has proved to be very weak and lacked stiffness hence why eventually the gaskets are damaged.
There is nothing wrong with the gasket design, other car maufacturers use similar to good effect.
@Mrboombastic50 I'd check before posting shit bud. It's a Rover K series engine! And the ZR engine is no comparison so don't post shit you don't know about!....... ACTUALLY!
oh dear the old MG/Rover Hg Bollox's Do you even own an MG i bet that you dont, Most Mg?rover owners kno that if the car is warmed up properley before thrashing it and also the water levels are checked regularly it will not go. So before you post rubbish like this again please think about what the hell you are saying
you are right! ive been really cruel to mine ind it hasnt even gone a gasket yet , regular oil change and timing belt change (just what your ment to do) 79 k and going like fuxk
the mg has not got a Honda engine it has a BMW/mg built engines or ford mustang in v8 models

the v6 in the mg zt is a k-series hence it being called the kv6
the only difference is that it is in a V configuration and it doesnt suffer the usual HG issues

the original gasket design is of silocon.
It may even be a rover patent.
most other manufactures don't use this type of gasket.
if replaced with a multi layer steel gasket it shouldn't give any more problems.

why dont you spend a little extra money and buy the reinforced aftermarket head gasket and then you won't have to worry about it blowing up.
