This is an excellent sermon!.Really, truly biblical and wonderful! But i strongly disagree with one being a strong christian when throwing out demons. I agree that its strange that many christians never have touched upon it at all, ever, but if it was for everyone to do, then both Jesus and all the apostles would have stressed that alot more!
To be conformed with Christ, to grow in holiness, is much more important. To seek Him and to be consumed by Him. Yes, to desire Jesus, is much more important. If you stumble over someone who is possesed by demons, then you know what to do. But, we are not to search for it or want it. At all!
Casting out demons is not a requirement .

that's rob bell. he's by no means a false preacher. he's very prominent because he is a part of this ministry called nooma. nooma records little video clips, maybe 5-10 minutes of challenging biblical sermons. they're popular at youth groups because they're relevant and really make you think. his teaching is all sound and biblical.
This mans preaching is not accursed - Do you even know what that means? He is preaching a very strict and extreme form of Christianity. Everyone's walk is different. For those that want the best - this is it. God bless.

The books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were written for the Jews who were UNDER THE LAW. We gentiles ARE NOT UNDER THE LAW, so the things written in those book do not pertain to us.

Amen! Jesus preached bodly, specifically to teach the pharisees that their works were not sufficient for salvation. Jesus loved even the pharisees, so how much more we should love the unbelievers! actually matthew is geared towards jewish people.. he talked a lot about the traditions, made a lot of references of what Jesus did to prophecy in the old test...mark has a roman slant since the romans are always moving he shows Jesus as a man of action always doing and heaing.. Luke had a gentile slant he shwed Jesus as the universal savior that Jesus came o save jews gentiles women samaritans not just the jews... and my notes just closed down but i remember john's was just different everone

You see mate, I don't think that Jesus ever lived at all. I think he was a legend invented by an opressed people out of a yearning to see their persecution end and a desire for their grievances to be redressed. The Jesus idea took hold and people started to embelish the stories told about him until the legend grew and grew to the point that it is now uncritically accepted as true by the majority of people. There is no contemparanious evidence for Jesus ever existing at all.

Why are all the gospels written by other random people decades after Jesus' death? If salvation is so important, why no gospel of Jesus?

You have offered me C S Lewis' 3 options of Liar, Lord or Lunatic but you have artificailly limited my choices to these 3 options. I would like to tender one more option. So an expanded and more realistic set of choices would be liar, lord, lunatic or legend. All the evidence points to legend in my honest opinion. Rob Bell is a wolf...you were warned not to fall for people like him...he teaches that there is no hell and that God will not send anyone there....a wolf appears to be a follower but will teach you something that defies the Word of God. This is an excellent sermon!.Really, truly biblical and wonderful! But i strongly disagree with one being a strong christian when throwing out demons. I agree that its strange that many christians never have touched upon it at all, ever, but if it was for everyone to do, then both Jesus and all the apostles would have stressed that alot more!

To be conformed with Christ, to grow in holiness, is much more important. To seek Him and to be consumed by Him. Yes, to desire Jesus, is much more important. If you stumble over someone who is possesed by demons, then you know what to do. But, we are not to search for it or want it. At all!
Casting out demons is not a requirement .
Many will say "Lord, Lord, have we not done this and that and cast out demons in your name" and he replies, "depart from me you workers of iniquity."

that's rob bell. he's by no means a false preacher. he's very prominent because he is a part of this ministry called nooma. nooma records little video clips, maybe 5-10 minutes of challenging biblical sermons. they're popular at youth groups because they're relevant and really make you think. his teaching is all sound and biblical.

actually matthew is geared towards jewish people.. he talked a lot about the traditions, made a lot of references of what Jesus did to prophecy in the old test...mark has a roman slant since the romans are always moving he shows Jesus as a man of action always doing and heaing.. I saw Jesus in a vision. I have a 3.4 GPA, i am completly sane, i have many friends, it was not late at night, i was sober as i always am, i was not tired or on any drugs or alcohol, i am not lying and am not faking. So dont u dare tell people they are lying! And for your information, my cousin was born with a hole in his heart. Doctors told his mother he would die in days. They took him to a church and prayed over him. He was miraculously healed, and the doctors dont know how it was possible.

To clarify why the opening analogy is retarted, saying "I'm a car" is saying that you are that physical object: The Car. Saying "I'm a Christian" is proclaiming that you are that religious classification: Christian.
A better analogy would have been "Imagine going to Korea and saying 'I'm a communist' over and over. Are you really a communist?"
If this blowhard pastor tried to use such a weak analogy in a sanctioned debate he'd be laughed off the stage.

His analogy is perfectly fine; Spending time in a church no more makes one a christian than spending time in a garage makes one a car. arguing from the absurd to make a point is perfectly within the rules. The comparison he is attempting to draw is fundamentally imcorrect and is deliberately so. Becoming a Christian does not require a physical transformation that is utterly impossible, and when said transformation is the entire point of the analogy, its kind of important both metamorphoses share even a vague similarity to eachother.

You see mate, I don't think that Jesus ever lived at all. I think he was a legend invented by an opressed people out of a yearning to see their persecution end and a desire for their grievances to be redressed. The Jesus idea took hold and people started to embelish the stories told about him until the legend grew and grew to the point that it is now uncritically accepted as true by the majority of people. There is no contemparanious evidence for Jesus ever existing at all.

In the contect of history when the early church was extremely persecuted... why would they die for something they knew was a lie or myth. Isnt that what the myth would be trying to free them from? I find it hard to grasp that as baseless truth.

People die for things that are false all the time. Just look at the Branch Davidians at Waco. They believed it was real but everyone else knew it was false so it doesn't suprise me that the early church members died for what they believed. It still doesn't make it true. Secondly Jesus' teachings were not that revolutionary. The golden rule was in the Hammurabi code which was years before Jesus' supposed life. Also the fact that Jesus cursed a fig tree shows me that not all his teaching was good.

I have read the bible from cover to cover and if Christianity is to be believed as true then you must explain to me one glaring omission. Where is the gospel according to Jesus? Why didn't the lord and saviour of every human being, the redeemer of sins and the greatest teacher that ever lived ever commit pen to paper and actually write anything down? Why are all the gospels written by other random people decades after Jesus' death? If salvation is so important, why no gospel of Jesus?

But Mohammed never claimed to be an omniscient omnipresent, omnipotent omnibenevolent god so I can understand the inconsistencies in the Koran. If Jesus was all that he claimed to be (or rather all that Christians claim him to be) then he would surely have written his own gospel and saved many many more souls with his perfect logic and love written clear for all to read and accept, thereby accomplishing his purpose and making his sacrifice actually count for the vast majority of humanity.

So an expanded and more realistic set of choices would be liar, lord, lunatic or legend. All the evidence points to legend in my honest opinion. I don't think that Jesus actually existed as a real historical figure. He seems to me to be more of a legendary myth than a historical person, like Hercules or Perseus.

Well not exactly back to the original conundrum because legends arise about people without them ever having lived at all like Hercules. He is a legend but I don't think that you'll accept that Hercules was ever a historical figure. As for Julius Caesar I think he probably existed, but do you believe that Julius Caesar ascended into heaven after his death? That is what I mean about legends. They are easily made up just like the one about old Julius going bodily into heaven.

Anyway my point was that its purely a psychological tool to help survive but also provide many other roles in the everyday lives of people. Eg. seggregation, comfort, security, etc etc, its all just a big battle with the mind to accept reality. So we end up inventing things or lieing to protect ourselves and serve our own interests. Do you see birds worshoping a God? Name me one other creature on this earth that displays or exhibits even a remote possibility of them believing or knowing a God exists. Just one other. I think you'll soon find that Homo Sapiens are the only mammals with a brain complex enough to create the idea of God. But then again the inspiriation for it wasnt really that hard when we have a giant ball of energy at the centre of our system.

I'll settle this argument right now...Religion and christianity drowns in liquid diarrhea and blended rats vomited out out of the anus of a half dead dog living in a septic tank. Mixed the pus of a festering wound and piss left out in the sun for 12 weeks pissed out the cancerous dick of a homosexual bull onto the face of christianity.
