I don't think human knowledge is falling, I think human intelligence may be. I do think though that In China & India people are much better educated than they were 40 years ago, so there is some grounds for hope. But with intelligence, enviornment can only do so much, heredity is the main factor in intelligence I think.

Also it's important to have good quality education, and to make learning enjoyable in schools, thus meaning more people will continue to educate themselves, even once their formal schooling is over.

In Education in my country, Science, Mathematics and English are considered the most important subjects, but these subjects can squeeze out other subjects like music, art and sports. There's a balance to be found I think and learning takes many different forms.

It isn't an excuse, This is what the evidence tells us. Dating is crucial as it tells us about a rate of mutation, which is identical to what we see today. Millions of tiny little changes accross many many generations all add up, the only mechanism is ability to breed and pass on the changes. That isn't an excuse, it is the theory of evolution in a nut-shell.

Simple, elegant and ALL the evidence, including DNA sequencing and dating et cetera, supports this.

actually dating doesn't tell us about a rate of mutation. The success of any mutation is entirely environment dependant (ie: if it is a negative trait it won't be passed on), changes of climate and environment are far more important influences on the "rate" of evolution (although evolution is by no means a constant rate - its random).

look for "A Matter of Time" this should especially help your understanding with concept of time span in in which evolution visibly occurs. you'll see that millions of years is not short as you think it is.

Personally, I philosophize that emotions have gone through their own stages of evolution as well. Should any species be born too angry, too sad, too jelious ect ect, they are at a disadvantage. At the same time, emotions can lead to a great variety of evolutionary advantages, such as happyness for environmental rewards, sadness in the face of situations unpleasant, and anger... an obvious need to fuel violence and passion. Emotions are the work of evolution as with everything else.

A valid point not addressed in here is the one made by David Sloan Wilson that where we didn't have as powerful teeth like baboons we (walking on two legs with our hands free) invented and mastered throwing rocks which is incredibly rare feat among apes.

Throwing rocks also made us more able to injure each other and forced even the strongest among us to become skilled in forming social ties, eventually resulting in better social skills like speech in our species.
