  • that gorgeous Sansui SR-838 w/ Pioneer's manhandling SX-1980! such a joy to behold! thanx so much!

  • @DrNoahBoddy004 Yep gorgeous stuff. The epitome of Japanese hi-fi, no doubt about that.

  • Great stuff and I love Baker Street by Al Stewart. Love vintage high-end audio gear too. Just posted my video of vintage gear here. Hope you like it also! ; )

  • Does Audio Research still makes gear? I havent heard from them for a over a decade

  • @MrDemilord Hi:

They still do. Recently, Bill Johnson retired and he sold the company to an Italian conglomerate that also owns Sonus Faber. They are still located in Minnesota and making tube gear.

  • My dad has an original Fisher 500, still in it's cheesy, behemoth wooden console with the old speakers! Not sure if it's a 'B' or 'C' model though. Still has the original tubes (Telefunken), and plays great. Probably needs a good tuneup though in order to preserve function. I remember hooking up a pair of Polk Audio Monitor 10B speakers (back when Polk was truly high end), and being blown away by the fluid, warm, tubelike sound.

  • Do you still have tube gear? I bought a SP3A1 pre-amp in 1973.

  • @floridafyme Yes, currently all tube Marantz setup. Greetings!

  • muisc sounds better on tubes

  • Nice interesting presentation, thanks.

Good gear from the days when electricity was cheap!. ;-))

  • Beautiful presentation and accompaning music. Makes me appreciate that I was a young man in the 70's and knew and loved much of this equipment. Thanks -

  • Nice showing, great music. It has prompted me to go looking for my Suzanne Vega vinyl. I'm interested in an older receiver that sounds good to listen to AM/FM and spin some vinyl. Pioneer, Sansui, Marantz. Any suggestions? Thanks...Ian

  • @604bige Pioneer's from the mid to late 70's are my favorites. SX-1050, SX-1080, SX-1250, SX-1980 are good examples. Thanks for the comments. Enjoy the music and take care!

  • Great slidewhow, and some very fine equipment has passed through your hands. I still have the Dyna Mk 111 amps, PAS-3 , Dyna tuner, the Eico, McIntosh C-28, MR-67, 2105 amp, Luxman turntable,Quad electrostatics,Pioneer SX1080,SX980,.Magneplanar Tympani 1-C, Magnepans, GAS 400 watt amps, preamp, Rek-O-Kut,Garrard, JBL Harlan,Marantz receiver, and other misc. I am glad I held on to these, and I still enjoy them. Some I foolishly let go like the Marantz 8B, I won't get that back at a bargain price

  • I know the name of the first song is Baker Street, but forget the artist.

  • @Tunnelfish Gerry Rafferty.

  • That GA9000 was nice. Sansui in Japan is much higher end than they ever sent over here.

  • Very nice, however, that last Marantz seemed "out of place" in the slide show. Cheers!

  • @thisisunreal1 Yeah well I put this together 2 years ago. One of my first vids. Thanks for your comments~!

  • Hi. Thanks for posting these images. The images remind me of the time when you could actually recognize components in a stereo and even repair them if necessary. My father used to have a stereo made by a company called Concord, powerful stereo it was.

  • Cool stuff , thanks for posting the video.

  • That is the song all the stereo shops were playing when I went in to bug them back in the day.

  • what song are you playing in the video ????

  • at the beginning?

  • Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty.

  • I had A fisher 500 that took out of a old floor console stereo. cabinet was in bad shape.

  • i can forgive you everithing but those monobloks from luxman with kt88 tubes=grrrrrrr..................... beutiful colection you have had...

  • audio geek porno!

  • Very nice, don't see any Quad or Radford, good stuff as well.

  • Haven't had the pleasure of selling those yet. I agree nice stuff.

  • Beautiful, thanks for sharing

  • Ive been dreaming of a pair of Marantz model Nines...but will fetch an 8b in due time. Any thoughts on an 8b?

  • The 8B is my favorite Marantz amplifier. Being stereo both channels are very closely matched at the factory. The output transformer uses dual tertiary windings for feedback just like the Model 9.

If you don't need 70W in pentode, the 8B fits the bill quite nicely. I have owned as many as four at one given time. Now only have a pair. One as my main amp and a spare. 35Wpc seem to drive my Vandersteens just fine. I do use their 300W sub below 80Hz..

  • What was the name of the first song used in this video

  • Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty.

  • 330 RMS......now you have me combing classifieds...the wife is going to love this;) Great photos and gotta love those early pieces with the paperwork and boxes. I have to ask,,,are there any keepers you havent posted? cheers!

  • Yeah, my current Marantz tube stuff, my Vandersteen speakers, EAD DAC, VPI turntable. All keepers. Thanks for the kind comments!

  • OMG! I used to work for EAD

  • Did you like working for them?

I think they made some terrific products.

  • Very nice stuff and very well done video. Great photos. Thanks

Couldn't help but notice that the MAC clinic tag on your C-26 pre had a "DOB" initial. Davey O'brien who ran the clinics for many years. Was a Mac dealer back then and had the pleasure of his company many days and dinners after hours of clinics.

    Thanks again

    RIP Davey.

  • Yes, Dave was a personal friend of mine during the last ten years of his life. He even sent me a picture of him in his nice vintage red Corvette. He will be missed!

  • would be kool if there was some names on subtittles

  • Annotations (subtitles) now added!

  • The big Reciever appearing at 8:33 in the slideshow, is it a Sansui G 8000 ?

As I can see here this receiver is equiped with a round transformer ( called "toroidal" ^^) that obviously has two seperate secundary circuits. one for each channel. Is this technology used in ohter models too ? what's the special use of a "toroidal Transformer" ?

  • It's a G 9000 the next model up.

I believe only the higher end model used the toroidal transformer. The main advantage is lower core losses and therefore higher efficiency than conventional technology.

  • bravo good pics

  • awesome, i am lucky enough to own a couple of the amps you have sold.

  • 4:57

  • The guitar solo, the Luxman equipment or both? :-)

  • equipment yo

  • ME HICIERON RECORDAR BUENOS TIEMPOS

  • So what stuff do you keep?

  • Well, I wish I could keep it all, quite frankly. Finances dictate otherwise!

Of all the stuff there, I kept the Marantz 10B tuner.

  • Very Nice clip. 5/5

  • thank you!

  • Thanks!

Yeah, Audio Research can be expensive. However, some nice deals can be had in the used market.

  • Much realy realy nice stuff here! I really like Audio Research, but it's too expencive for me.. :-(
