Great stuff and I love Baker Street by Al Stewart. Love vintage high-end audio gear too. Just posted my video of vintage gear here. Hope you like it also! ; )
They still do. Recently, Bill Johnson retired and he sold the company to an Italian conglomerate that also owns Sonus Faber. They are still located in Minnesota and making tube gear.
My dad has an original Fisher 500, still in it's cheesy, behemoth wooden console with the old speakers! Not sure if it's a 'B' or 'C' model though. Still has the original tubes (Telefunken), and plays great. Probably needs a good tuneup though in order to preserve function. I remember hooking up a pair of Polk Audio Monitor 10B speakers (back when Polk was truly high end), and being blown away by the fluid, warm, tubelike sound.
Beautiful presentation and accompaning music. Makes me appreciate that I was a young man in the 70's and knew and loved much of this equipment. Thanks -
Nice showing, great music. It has prompted me to go looking for my Suzanne Vega vinyl. I'm interested in an older receiver that sounds good to listen to AM/FM and spin some vinyl. Pioneer, Sansui, Marantz. Any suggestions? Thanks...Ian
@604bige Pioneer's from the mid to late 70's are my favorites. SX-1050, SX-1080, SX-1250, SX-1980 are good examples. Thanks for the comments. Enjoy the music and take care!
Great slidewhow, and some very fine equipment has passed through your hands. I still have the Dyna Mk 111 amps, PAS-3 , Dyna tuner, the Eico, McIntosh C-28, MR-67, 2105 amp, Luxman turntable,Quad electrostatics,Pioneer SX1080,SX980,.Magneplanar Tympani 1-C, Magnepans, GAS 400 watt amps, preamp, Rek-O-Kut,Garrard, JBL Harlan,Marantz receiver, and other misc. I am glad I held on to these, and I still enjoy them. Some I foolishly let go like the Marantz 8B, I won't get that back at a bargain price
Hi. Thanks for posting these images. The images remind me of the time when you could actually recognize components in a stereo and even repair them if necessary. My father used to have a stereo made by a company called Concord, powerful stereo it was.
The 8B is my favorite Marantz amplifier. Being stereo both channels are very closely matched at the factory. The output transformer uses dual tertiary windings for feedback just like the Model 9.
If you don't need 70W in pentode, the 8B fits the bill quite nicely. I have owned as many as four at one given time. Now only have a pair. One as my main amp and a spare. 35Wpc seem to drive my Vandersteens just fine. I do use their 300W sub below 80Hz..
330 RMS......now you have me combing classifieds...the wife is going to love this;) Great photos and gotta love those early pieces with the paperwork and boxes. I have to ask,,,are there any keepers you havent posted? cheers!
Very nice stuff and very well done video. Great photos. Thanks
Couldn't help but notice that the MAC clinic tag on your C-26 pre had a "DOB" initial. Davey O'brien who ran the clinics for many years. Was a Mac dealer back then and had the pleasure of his company many days and dinners after hours of clinics.
Yes, Dave was a personal friend of mine during the last ten years of his life. He even sent me a picture of him in his nice vintage red Corvette. He will be missed!
The big Reciever appearing at 8:33 in the slideshow, is it a Sansui G 8000 ?
As I can see here this receiver is equiped with a round transformer ( called "toroidal" ^^) that obviously has two seperate secundary circuits. one for each channel. Is this technology used in ohter models too ? what's the special use of a "toroidal Transformer" ?
I believe only the higher end model used the toroidal transformer. The main advantage is lower core losses and therefore higher efficiency than conventional technology.
that gorgeous Sansui SR-838 w/ Pioneer's manhandling SX-1980! such a joy to behold! thanx so much!

That GA9000 was nice. Sansui in Japan is much higher end than they ever sent over here.
