this reminds me a bit of the MOTHER 3 cancellation for N64dd, only the difference was that Shigesato Itoi (best known for the creation of the MOTHER series, called "earthbound" in USA) made the decision to bring the title back after its 3d demo, and decide to put it on a 2d gameboy platform, arguably making the best jrpg of all time. I have a feeling capcom might see what they missed out, and try to revive the series, we can only hope
The recent cancellation of very promising titles and potential best sellers.
It points out that something BAD is happening inside Capcom.
Maybe bad personnel managing is taking it's toll or good or even key game designers are packing up and silently go to other game studios where the pasture is greener.
@TheDevilBreaker I shamelessly stole the TvC footage but when I do capture footage, and you can see an example in the Sonic Generations Demo, I use Happauge (in particular, the one that allows component cables). I then edit primarily in Adobe Premiere.
Hey, hey, hey! Don't give Capcom the wrong ideas! Personally, I would let them kick me, at full force, right in the balls if I could make Rockman DASH 3, and I think the Devroom is exactly how I would like to see each and every game made. Maybe it's because I really want to make games and have no opportunities, but that's just me.
Everything else you said? Yeah, Capcom needs to hear every word of it. And never stop hearing it.
Very little effort? You make big claims, my friend. Porting TvC to 360/PS3 would not only have been impossible, it would've made the game practically unprofitable. TvC got great sales on the Wii and PS360 had MvC3 with a legends character and stages. So Capcom didn't fail by not porting TvC to the PS360- in fact, we're lucky to have even got the game in North America at all!
@GojiGuy Fighting games of this kind, especially when they are big names, sell big numbers regardless of the system. I don't see why you don't think this would have sold on the PS3 and 360 as well provided they spaced it out properly with Street Fighter IV and MvC 3.
@neverchris You obviously don't know that much about TvC's struggles. One of the only reasons it sold well was BECAUSE it was on Wii- a system starved for fighters. The market on Wii was ripe for an exclusive fighting game. Meanwhile, the PS360 was what we call "saturated" with fighters. Around when TvC came out they already had SFIV, KOFXII, MvC2, BBCS, was about to get Super SFIV and was about to get the announcement of MvC3. "Spacing" the release of TvC would not have been possible at all.
@GojiGuy If in 2011 Capcom doesn't see a problem in releasing SFIV Arcade Edition, Ultimate MvC3, and SFIII Online all at the same time, there wouldn't have been a problem releasing TvC in 2010 with almost no competition. Super Street Fighter IV could have been pushed forward until later in the year and Capcom would have still been fine. BlazBlue, the only real competition, was only one title and that didn't hit until later in the year.
And given the fact that they'd have to re-develop the game for PS360 owners and the fact that it was not dark and serious like SFIV and MvC3 meant that there is no way Capcom could've turned a profit on it.
Why do you think TvC HAD to be on PS360? MvC3 was there and had a legends stage and legends character- promoting the series as well.
@GojiGuy If Capcom truly needed to redevelop the game, that's even more their fault for not making it easily portable in the first place. Also, SFIV and MvC3 barely have a storyline and are more cheesy than dark and serious.
@neverchris Neverchris, you see that's the problem. SFIV Arcade Edition, UMvC3 and SFIV AE are cannibalizing each other. And those are big name games. Marvel would beat Tatsunoko into the ground. As for dark, they are visually more realistic and darker than TvC.
anyways, you won't answer my question: Why do you think that Capcom NEEDED to port TvC? why wasn't Marvel vs Capcom 3 with its Legends content good enough to keep people aware?
Chris rlly man I wish more developers would listen to, if not everyone, art least you, you put ur details into the business standpoint nd I will vote for u if they are lookimg for anyone new to helm the megaman series, one of my favorite games EVER and I don't even own a wii, bit plenty of hd gamers grew up with the game and it still holds a ton of relevance with most of capcom rlly dropped the ball, does anyone else think capcom is just trying to corner the fighting game market
well excuuuuuuuuse me capcom! I was not aware that I was responsable for the designing and programming my video game entertainement. I'd better go check Pixar's website and see if they want any animation doing for them.
Sell more on the 360/PS3? I don't think so. This is Tatsunoko vs Capcom, not Marvel vs Capcom. This kind of Japanese game is not really suited for PS3/360. It could help, but it would not sell more than the Wii version.
And this was canceled because of the PS3 and 360. Why? Simply because Capcom wants to spend more money doing werstern-like game for shitty PS3 and 360 owners. There's no chance for a true Japanese game anymore.
@gundamzerostrike Oh yeah it's not like games aimed at a Japanese audience would sell on the 360/PS3. I mean games like Idolm@ster totally didn't make the 360 popular in Japan. The PS3 and 360 are rather popular in Japan perhaps the 360 isn't as popular as the PS3. But there are still a plethora of games made for the 360 with a Japanese audience in mind. If Blazblue can sell well so can Tatsunoko vs Capcom. Don't be an idiot. Thanks.
@AkkiWare While he was being a console-fanboy-biased-manchild in his post, gundamzerostrike is still right. TvC on Wii outsold SFIV on 360, outsold BB on 360 and outsold most Japanese games on 360- by a mile. In fact, TvC outsold BB on both PS3 and 360. While TvC might have been popular in Japan on PS3, it was impossible for them to port the game.
Is it wrong for a company to try to branch out with unknown titles? It was because of this console generation, after all, we got new franchises such as Assassin's Creed and Dead Space. Mega Man as a franchise is as old as the NES, it isn't going to be forgotten soon. And when it comes to fighting games, they still include Tron in MvC3 so that must mean something.
@wildblur i think the reason of her cult status is he role from missadventures since neither megaman nor teisel bonne show up as fighters (i know about the cameo)
Seriously wy would I want to contribute to a game and then pay for it??isn't giving them my money enough??is my name going to be in the credits??seriously I don't understand wy those idiots want us to make the game for them isnt it there job to make the goddamn game shit I meant that is what there getting payed for not us-_-
@thejobloshow It's a well made fighting game with good buzz and a big name (Capcom) featuring a bunch of fan-favorite characters in an over-the-top style that sells pretty much instantly these days.
@neverchris Not to mention, there was no marvel vs capcom 3 back then, and fans really wanted an updated version of the MvC experience, while it wasn't an exact copy, TvC shares enough similarities to be at the very least a spiritual sucessor, and would have sold very well in my opinon.
@thejobloshow TvC sold 400k alone on the Wii. Pushing a few 100k more units on the HD systems would've been pretty easy, especially with the right marketing. It's miles better than MvC3 at least even without the brand recognition. In fact I might even go as far as to say it's one of the best fighting games ever made but I'm getting ahead of myself ^_^;
@KhaPha Selling units wouldn't be a problem, but HD development costs and porting costs would've killed any of Capcom's chances at actually making a profit. They'd have to take a significant hit- just to spread brand awareness about an old outdated game series that might return as a 3DS game?
@GojiGuy True. But the 3DS huh? I'd prefer TvC stayed a console series like the other Vs. games. I wouldn't be surprised with the trends that Capcom seems to be showing tho :(
The problem really just lies with Capcom's silly habit of releasing rehashes of games too few years apart. Not enough content, not enough time. TvC UAS was a breath of fresh air since they actually spent some time fine-tuning it for an international release. MH3 too. Legends 3 looks like it could have followed this trend
It's not like the project was going well to begin with. Capcom was making bad decisions before the cancelation. Alienating fans of the series and throwing roadblocks in the way at every turn. Megaman was nowhere in sight for his own franchise. The main title was constantly in doubt of being released. Making it exclusive to a handheld which most fans do not own or planned to own. I've been waiting forever for MML3 but only got disappointment after disappointment leading up to the cancellation.
Why are you going this to me Capcom, you used to be awesome!? Oh well, I can always buy a generic 40 dollar re-release with a few new characters I don't care about.
You know, for a company as OBVIOUSLY greedy as Capcom has become, it is weird that they opted not to release this game. Oh well, they have long since ceased making any sense to me at all.
Like with the backlash against Sega, I do not like the backlash against Capcom right now.
It's entirely possible that once Inafune left Capcom, the company had no faith in this new project and no one else knew what to do with it or wanted to take control, so it got canned.
There have been many projects that could garner more profit that also got canned, and had nowhere near as much backlash as this, and I'm hoping it will pass, because I'd rather a cancelled MML3 game than a shoddy one.
Did Capcom just forget what the Prototype version of the game was supposed to do? If the the Prototype version sold well at the eShop, THAT would've told Capcom that people would be interested in this game, not the fucking devroom member numbers. They would've made a decent amount of money regardless if the full game would be made with the demo, but instead they decided to ruin they're reputation. "it's OK to just hang back and watch, too!" my ass.
The first warning sign should have been that the psp versions weren't even released to america. I don't quite know what there thinking was but it obviously wasn't in making this game work cause the second they found the eject button they pressed it.
The biggest problem with MvC3 is that Ultimate should have been what MvC3 was in the first place. But Capcom in their infinite wisdom decided to release it half completed and full of silly, unbalanced mechanics to bathe in their 1.3 million copies worth of profit... sigh. Still I really wonder what's happening over at Capcom. Inafune probably had to have had a VERY good reason for leaving after 23 years and I guess we can clearly see why
I wasn't too surprised when it got cancelled. I remember my friend told me the first 2 didn't sell well, I I figured this would do better, but not by much. And they did say that it would be cancelled if there wasn't enough involvement in the devroom, which basically meant, sign up and become a servbot so we know your interested.
