@VashStepler yes i cot cable, but i found my answer, the make two different models of the product. One with the modem//router in one and one with just the router.
@dvgowner1 If someone has already specifically answer another possible part of your question " do you need a modem and the wndr 3700 or just the 3700" reason why VashStepler is right is because:
Gateway= Modem & router in one device(example=2wire from dsl At&t, SMC from CONcast is another which I'm not sure if they still lease those out or not they plan to lease out a"dora" gateway unit in the future)
Modem is only a physical device with one ethernet port
That's what I needed to see - a flashing blue link light on the 6120 modem. My standard wireless router can't do gigabit so it flashes orange indicating 100mbps only. I have Cox mid tier cable internet which is DOCSIS 3.
@VashStepler too much lol. Actually it's $48.99 minus $15.49 for having the bundle of cable tv, home phone, and internet so $33.50. Home phone is via cable is $20.
@VashStepler I've been told that by others who live in TIme Warner areas in this town too. Do you have landline phone from Time Warner in order to get that price? I'm guessing you must. That's the only reason I'm keeping the phone for the moment. It works out that I only pay $5 more to add the phone when you figure in the bundle discount. So it almost wouldn't make since to get rid of it, lose the discount, and pay $15 more for internet. I would have to go to the lower tier to save money
@VashStepler Yea so-called is right. I do know that when the power goes out, unlike regular phone line service, the phone ghoes dead too. I remember when it was being marketed as having a battery backup somewhere in case the power goes out.
The joke in this town is some people won't move to an area that is a Time Warner area just because of the prices. I'm lucky to live in a Cox service area but wouldn't rule out AT&T Uverse if it came to this neighborhood.It's already in other areas here.
@VashStepler I honestly don't need as much speed as I have. Think out it. It's more of a marketing ploy now between the companies to see who has the fastest speed. I remember when cable internet arrived here in 1998. It was 1.5mbps which even then seemed fast but that was be streaming HD movies, etc.
They're asking for $100 a month, but with triple play its about the same price for what I'm paying for RoadRunner. They game me the Motorola SBG6580 modem which is pretty much the same thing. Speeds are great! also have the WNDR3700, great router!
Just call ur subscriber's # and tell them that u wanted to use ur own modem instead of their's. U will have to give them the mac address and the model of ur modem.
Niceeeee.... I see we got the same setup =)

I got this router, can you explain why some of the lan LEDs are orange not solid green?
knightslay2 4 months ago
@knightslay2
LAN leds (orange or green) normally blinks during activities.
Orange? It could be your network adapter's speed.
10/ 100Mbps = Orange.
10/ 100/ 1000Mbps = Green.

what does the motorola thing do.. ? help please
Alooy10q8 5 months ago
@Alooy10q8
thats the cable modem. u cant connect to internet without it.
VashStepler 5 months ago
@VashStepler why not can u explain ? why do i need that -.-
Alooy10q8 5 months ago
@Alooy10q8
Please google the word "modem". I just cant think of any shorter way to explain what modem is here. xD
Anyway, since the Netgear WNDR3700 does not have a built-in modem in it. I had to get a seperate modem, which is the Motorola SB6120.
I youre a cable internet user and using only 1 computer(no Wi-Fis) then Motorola SB6120 is good enough 4 u.
If you have any Wi-Fi capable devices & planning to connect it to the internet along with ur comp? Get the Motorola SBG6580 instead.
VashStepler 5 months ago
@VashStepler aha so without the motorola i cant connect to the internet ?!
Alooy10q8 5 months ago
@Alooy10q8
Thats correct.
VashStepler 5 months ago
@VashStepler but my cousin he doesnt have fiber optics and he is using wndr4000 on a phone line !!! explain
Alooy10q8 5 months ago
@Alooy10q8
Your cousin must be using a DSL Modem then hook it up to his wndr4000.
Cable Modem = connected via Cable.
DSL Modem = connected via Phone line.

Thats a good deal! I pay $40/month for my internet cable(middle tier, 15Mbps DL and 0.98Mbps UL) with Time Warner.
I used to save more back then when i was with Charter cable, same speed but $10 cheaper.
