Spotted at 0:24 is Thomas Shrout Jr. He was the director of Citizens for Modern Transit in St. Louis. The Starbucks seen here is located at Allan or Allen and McKinney in Dallas. Just think, buying a coffee pot or some coffee cups at Starbucks without the need for an automobile.
@dieselducy It sure is. This was taken back in 1999. Eventhough I thought the McKinney Avenue line was to be extended to the West End station, they did extend it to Cityplace Station.
i wonder how the demographics--in terms of race, class, income, etc) have changed. what kinds of communities were displaced? Is displacing residents through multi-million/billion dollar projects that ultimately benefit a certain segment of the population who can afford it equitable?
The communities were displaced were crack houses and gang activity. The sad thing is that the other low-income people had to put up with the gang garbage and now anyone who wants to save big can buy a condo, not be having to put up with stupid gang activity. The market is open to everyone. And many of these properties being placed on bus routes or streetcar lines, the residents have no trouble in getting to work.
This area used to be riddled with gang activity and now look how pretty it is now without the gangs! Even since I shot this video, the McKinney Avenue streetcar line has been extened and now stops at Cityplace Station and West End station on DART rail.
A tribute to the weird shit people post on YouTube.
