  • You should have tested a banana!  Apparently potassium (in the banana) is supposed to be slightly radioactive too. (Follow up video, perhaps?)

  • weren't you saying "be really careful you don't wanna touch anything on the back"??, at the end of the video you just grab it without worrying to much! xD

  • with that tube..your only gonna detect beta and gamma...no alpha

  • @theDaxcorp An unshielded tube should be able to detect alpha.

  • Granite being an igneous rock created from magma cooling over time contains natural radioactive elements such as radium, uranium, and thorium which were present in its molten state. As these elements decay more radionuclides are formed and the particles released during the decay of these elements are what are picked up with the Geiger counter.

    The uranium in granite decays to radon, and further, which is why homes with stone foundations are susceptible to increased concentrations of the gas.
