imo, jason was an essential part of metallica. i got to know metallica when he was still around, and the metallica with him will always be the definitive version of metallica to me. rob is a great bass player and he forced the band to do lots of rare songs live again which i thank him for, but he hasn't that "thing" that jason had. jason was just insane and a real part of metallica, rob is just their bass player, and never will be more.
