Be very careful in using toothpaste--has fine sand. here is a secret in keeping new silver coins shining and bright--wrap the coin in aluminum foil.Try that with copper should work :^/
great video. yours is pretty much the only one that isnt vague with poor picture quality. its funny how people freak out over cleaning worthless coins. i mean its a PENNY!!! god forbid he put a penny in salt and vinegar!! if its a coin of value dont clean it, if its a penny why not clean it!
The common thread in all these lemon juice, coke, ketchup, whatever top secret cleaning methods is the product being used is acidic. Toothpaste is mildly abrasive, rubbing the tarnish off.
thanx, worked great, but i forgot to dry off my nickels after bathing them in the viniger mixed with salt, so it kind of eroded, but then i wiped them down with toothpaste, and the marks were practilly gone, again thanx
i had a bunch of silver half dollars super glues to a plaque and i don't know how to get the glue off i tried steel wool on one and it scratched it really bad
@Killinemdead1 they're worthless anyways you used steel wool that makes them P or poor less then 1-70 Sheldon scale As a rule of thumb never clean coins with anything other then MAYBE, solution but silver coins need to be kept out of the air anyways so you should know they're delicate.
yes never clean coins thare is no posable way to clean a coin with out scraching it and that decreases the value. also the way silver and gold are is that any cemacal that gets on it will also change the color.
Thanks so much for this video. My fiance has some basic coins that he just started to collect, and while he as work, I've decided to tidy them up for him :)
hey i was wondering is it true that i have to apparently "rinse it" through alcohol after i put the coins in the vinegar + salt? to "wear off" the effects of the vinegar or something?
@RolePlayingRocks this will work on any coin as these products are abrasive but dont do it! it decreases the value only use coins that are in current circulation so they are only worth face value
Fine, if you want to clean coins i will show you the safest way I know First get heinz kethup and gently dab it on the coin, wait 2-3 mins depending on condition, gently rub of ketchup off coin, rinse coin with water and pat dry with towel then hold coin on edges and apply Mothers Polish on to the coin with a soft cloth rub off in circles gently.
the easiest way to clean any silver is mix salt baking soda and water put the coin or silver on a peice of tin foil larger then the actual silver your cleaning put it in the water salt baking soda solution and it should clean it super quick there was a vid on youtube showing how to do this but cant remember what its called but ya use this method but usually only use it on jewellery but not any coins or other stuff cause cleaning lowers value on alot of stuff
I had pennys from 1937-1960 that I was told to use lemon juice and salt just mix them together and swish the pennys around in them it worked amazing they look mint except for one problem they aare a dull shade of copper and do not have that glossy finnish whats wrong and how much is the value decreased cuz if there worth nothing ill trade them they look amazing for being clean put there not that nice copper color that new pennys are
I would love to clean my pennies. I do not plan on selling my pennies and was just looking for a way to make them shine again for my own personal collection. This is great! Thanks!!!!
why the hell would anyone want to "clean a coin" it destroys any collectors value. Besides....all you need to do is buy some "TARNEX" at a hardware store or Wallmart. Dip it in Tarnex and it takes literally 2 seconds to clean. I guess someone has a hell of alot of time on their hands
A lot of people who buy silver coins have no interest in 'collectors premium' for coins. All they are interested in is the melt value of the silver. They won't pay much above spot price value for coins anyway since they just want metal.
Yes it does, if it is just minor dirt ( or oil) you want to get off, I'd suggest the coke method. Just let it sit in the coke overnight and just rince and wipe it clean.
Thaanxx. I have learnt a good way of cleaning coins. Coke!

hmmm.... the salt and 8% vinegar didn't work for me at all, it took away any luster the penny even had remaining and turned the whole penny pink. :\

Tarnex is the worst thing for coins, damage wise. It strips layers of metal off your coin. It also smells like death after.

Yeah, it works on pretty much all coins.
For the gum, try getting of as much as you can, then try the coke method. you might wanna leave it in for about a day.
