I guess you don't need examples, since some equally well-informed person told you that they personally read on a blog that someone somewhere claimed they heard him say something and by gosh they think it's true.

Do some research, come up with some facts (don't make a fool of yourself; consider the credibility of sources) and maybe you can say something smart. Probably sounds too much like work to you.
