  • why this is racist? You sick white guilts

  • @alfonsotest

I uploaded this and described why in my opinion it is racist. Yes I am white, but I do not think I am guilty at all. I had nothing to do with making of this cartoon, plus some racism in the cartoon was directed at white Germans.

  • @StopFear It isn't against the west of Germany it's against the USA which used West Germany as a puppet state...

  • What's so racist about it?

  • Year of the cartoon release is not 1949 but 1961

  • Not exactly a fan of Communism, but this cartoon DID have a decent anti-racism message, if it may have been just a tad anti-Western......ah well, you can't win 'em all. =)

  • @MiracleMile90 Yeah, the coins of all ethnicities dancing together and having fun doesn't seem racist at all. Actually promotes racial tolerance. It is anti-Western, but then again, Western isn't a race.

  • @TheHeidelbergKid: Yeah, that's definitely true. =)

  • @TheHeidelbergKid No, Western isn't, but German, French, Swedish, etc. are. Just because in America we have homogenized all these groups as one race doesn't mean they do in Europe. And, to the point they don't, there racial construct is different. That said, they only really dogged on Germany, and as it was 1949, it could serve as an apt metaphor for what losing a war does to a currency.

  • @oa7200 The fact that race can be defined so differently and subjectively means it doesn't really exist. Theoretically, I could assign 7 billion different "races", one for each human, or I could assign all humans to one race: human, or I could go with the five "traditional" races, or anything. It's all arbitrary. Also, this was actually made in 1961.

  • @TheHeidelbergKid No, the fact that it can be defined so differently means it shouldn't exist. To say it doesn't really exist is ignoring the fact that I can prove it does. I know people who hate people for just what they look like. I have been hated for what I look like. Racism is so awful simply because it makes no sense, not because it does. Proving its irrationality does not prove it doesn't exist.

  • @oa7200 Skin colors fall along a vast continuum, meaning there are no clear-cut boundaries. The word "race" is so poorly defined it has practically no meaning. And if you can prove something contradictory, then it doesn't exist. For instance, a non-physical substance does not exist, as "substance" implies physicality, so it reads "non-physical physical thing (read "anything which exists even hypothetically)", an obvious contradiction.

  • @TheHeidelbergKid You ignore that disproving the existence of race does not disprove racism. One is a physical condition (we agree doesn't exist), the other a state of mind (which does.) The contention of yours that I argue with is that something is not racist because race doesn't exist. Go and watch the last 5 min of Birth of a Nation. The awful feeling in your stomach, that is the proper, visceral reaction to the craziness that is racism. And you hate it, because it is real.

  • @oa7200 Sorry, I misunderstood you earlier. But when we look at this, we see at America, Britain, and West Germany are depicted as "evil", but all sorts of ethnicities, including some stereotypical minorities, are seen as "good". Since the latter sounds like racial TOLERANCE, and "Western", "American", "British", and "West German" aren't typically seen as "races", so although this is Anti-Western, it [the film] is not racist.

  • @TheHeidelbergKid This video is certainly racist, just not by American standards. Race, since it does not truly exist, is a societal construct. European society, unlike US society, does view German, British, Scottish, Italian, Russian, and Greek as races. Just read their coverage of the Euro crisis. This cartoon was made by Europeans, not Americans, so their, not our, societal view must be used when watching the cartoon.

  • @oa7200 You make a good point, but there are problems. First, Great Britain refers to a combination of England and Scotland, so "English" and "Scottish" are both "British". Also, America still doesn't fall under this criteria, as the native societies have been replaced with a very diverse mix, with many races by European standards. (continued in a reply to this)

  • @TheHeidelbergKid One more point I would like to make is another big problem. I highly doubt that when Germany split into West and East Germany, the "German" race suddenly no longer existed and was replaced with "West German" and "East German" races. That's kind of, i.e. very, absurd. Tying race to nationality leads to problems like these.

  • @TheHeidelbergKid Chorus here, yet in the real world people do the absurd things, like create races around national or regional identities, funny ain't it. (I mean funny interesting, not funny, ha-ha.) Oh, and this video is an example of one of those things. As you point out the British "races" are especially ornate and detailed to us Yanks and we should count ourselves as having used our time properly, because we've never really spent time on it, until now. My bad.

  • im not a communist nor do i want to destroy western countries but this cartoon is pretty cool

  • @StopFear I watched the video from my laptop and the only annotations were Russian-English translations, and literally no commentary. Also, forgive me if I'm a little naïve, but what is big lips supposed to mean? I've seen people of all different backgrounds, yet none seemed to have strangely large lips. I've also seen Chinese cartoons with similarly shaped eyes, and I've never seen or heard of a racist who sees their own "race" as the INFERIOR one.

  • @TheHeidelbergKid

Annotations are translations, and description is in description field of the video. Maybe you have to expand it. In America the image of a black person with exaggerated big red lips is an example of how they were portrayed in a racist way. If you check youtube for cartoon called (scrub me mama , or lazytown) you'll see. This soviet cartoon does the same. If this cartoon were actually made by blacks, Chinese, or Japanese, then maybe we'd talk about it differently.

  • @StopFear I am American, browse the Internet a lot, and I've not ever seen that depiction. What I meant by my last sentence in my second post was that I don't see the cartoon slant-eyed Asian as a racist insult because Asians have depicted themselves in cartoons the same way, and I have never heard of any racist who believes their own race is the inferior one. Also, the only "African" coin you mention is the cent. (continued in a reply to this).

  • @TheHeidelbergKid To quote your description, "Then they have a boxing contest the chamption is a brass colored ONE CENT, who is clearly made to look like an African American. He is rude and pompous and smokes cigars. Tiny kopeck cries." I'm saying that the cent's depiction isn't racist as it doesn't seem to be a stereotypical African-American. (continued in a reply to this)

  • @TheHeidelbergKid I agree with you that this video is anti-Western. However, I disagree with you because I don't see this film as being racist. Let's look up the definition of "racist". Google says it means "having or showing the belief that a particular race is superior to another". This doesn't seem to appear in the video. For one thing, the brown coin with the 5 and mustache is portrayed as a "good" character. (continued in a reply to this)

  • @TheHeidelbergKid ..and it/he has "dark" skin which is about the same darkness as the cent's. The pence and kopeck are of similar skin color (sometimes, the kopeck's color changes throughout), yet one is "good" and the other "evil". The West German coins and the brown coins with the drums are also "good" and "evil". It seems to have coins of all "races" in both "good" and "evil" roles. Ergo, I don't see this video as being racist, as Western isn't a race.

  • I can get the anti-Western part, but why's this racist? For one thing, I think the kopeck cried because she wasn't heavy enough, not because of anything Cent or Pence said or did. Also, it's worth noting that some of the "third-world" coins which danced with Kopeck were African-looking.

  • @TheHeidelbergKid

I have written in description and in annotations (they should appear when you watch on computer) which explain why this cartoon appears racist to me. In fact I do mention those African coins. The coin that represent CENT is an image of a boxer black guy, other coins have big lips, or asian coins look like cartoony slant eyed asians.

  • @TheHeidelbergKid Part of that is because it's really hard to translate the way it comes across in Russian to English. The Cent sounds unintelligent with some nonstandard pronunciation to show he's black . When they meet at 3:47 he says мы как будь-то не знакомы. Maybe a better translation is "I like, uhhh, don't know you. Come here my baybe, jus caw me Mista Cent da invincabow.

  • @kalavic Note that they're in a bar and a lot of similarly colored coins were drinking alcohol. I think it could be explained simply as the Cent was drunk.

  • @TheHeidelbergKid Sure, explain it however you're intent on explaining it. But the obvious thing the makers expected their viewers to get is that USA is lousy by representing it with an ignorant African-American coin, which they considered an insult.

  • @kalavic I get what you're saying, how it was supposed to be an insult. What I'm saying is that it wouldn't be any more or less insulting if the cent was based off a Caucasian or an Asian or any "race". It just so happened that the cent back then was dark enough to look "African-American".

  • Still not a good as worker & parasite

  • @DonnerParty1000 "What the hell was THAT!" xD

  • Моя мечта, симпатичная жена, дом с семьей, хорошая группа друзей, живущих простой жизнью в моей церкви в Tymen. как нахождение церковь в Америке.(Leave US, church is also in Tymen, they know me."My dream is cute wife, good friends and simple life in Tymen."

    '

  • Банк России,(10) ДЕСЯТь РУБЛЕЙ НОТА, Имеет фотографию,красивых КРАСНОЯРСК. (Bank of Russia, (10) TEN RUBLE NOTE, Has beautiful Krasnoyarsk pic.) Note is on wall as motovation reminder of my potentialy challenging, but God willing "rewarding" life of a 2nd chance to live by simple means.

  • @SoldatLenina1917 Ok, the statistics you bring up. Please tell me where they're from. Also are suggesting there are less poor people in Russia than in America? I know America has tons of problems. Nobody says USA is a perfect country

  • I have no time to quiz you on your wisdom of Raudina. 1 Russia rule of Presiminister V.V.Putin with Medvedev "bear" has good regulation of large corperate gangs and "tycoons" I.E. Energy corp Gasprom, leading shareholder is Russian Citizen. State holds 50.2% of stock share, making people main owner of gas company. Much buiseness is ran this way where people need security from capitolist svyed or rich criminals. America capitalism appionts ruling class and is robbing 98% of wealth of people.

  • Meh. i'm a unitist .. I don't give a fuck about racism, capitalism, nationalism and patriotism.

every person is equal. for me, Countries are just lines on the map. I see no reason to hail your own country, only a reason to hail humanity ... all these fights are just .. dumb to listen to :P

  • @1Animeculture

I don't think I care about the title you give yourself (unitist) but I agree. In fact I do not hail USA by making this video. I post it to show racism that exists in some cartoons from soviet Union in post ww2 era.

  • I DEMAND YUGOSLAVIA IN THIS VIDEO

  • This is a thousand times more sophisticated than any American cartoon. And I am an American. There is nothing racist about this cartoon.

  • So if the Soviets make a cartoon it is "Racist"

And when Americans make propaganda videos it is "Patriotic"

    That is fucked up

  • @Vuvenz

What? Who claims that? America has lots of racist cartoons from the past. They had lots about black people and later about the Chinese and Japanese because of the ww2. I never heard anyone calling racist cartoons here in America Patriotic.

  • @StopFear I was talking about propaganda cartoons

  • @Vuvenz Beautiful Russia that I love seems to be harrassed and attacked alot. I stayed in Moskva, I was impressed. I did run into a jerk or two but that's people. I felt good about amaizing Russia and I may leave the decaying USA for a not perfect and somewhat "poor" Russia. I have nothing in US. I woud need little more than some good people and a simpe home. I hate it here. USA is selfish and harsh. I'll try my luck in Russia.

  • @Vuvenz

when soviets make propaganda cartoons theyre propaganda

when Americans make propaganda cartoons theyre propaganda

all governments serve the interests of the tiny elite in power, who are prejudiced against everyone they control to stay in power.

  • @Vuvenz I don't know about you, but I've never heard anyone call old American cartoons "patriotic"... in fact they get just as much shit for being racist

  • @Vuvenz

Nobody criticizes the racist American cartoons of the pre and during ww2 period more than the Americans themselves, so your comments is totally invalid.

  • this is not racist fucking disgusting yank.... this cartoon was about the war of the currencys.. obviously the evil wins... USA

  • @sicoticosandro First of all I am proud to be an America, even if you call me Yank. Second you must not know about economics much if you think that ruble actually was a real currency. Real currency participates in real markets which set its value. Ruble's value was set up artificially by the central committee officials, which is why it was not traded in the world stocks for half of life span of Soviet Union. I believe in 70s or 80s it was, but no one wanted it.

  • @StopFear of course it was not traded in world stocks, it would not benefit the capitalist pigs. i don't know if "real money" has "real value" anymore, we see americans producing us dollars indiscriminately and collapsing the rest of the world money. those rules for mercantilism are just an agreement. to me they are just like a betting game. anyway, US dollar after WWII was used as the international currency and that was the definetely triumph of yank capitalism, and the ruin of mankind

  • @sicoticosandro

Ok, whether you consider yourself to be a Marxist, Socialist, or Free Market Capitalist, its clear you do not understand neither what happened in USSR nor the rest of the world. USSR had capitalist activities since it became USSR, it could not even if it wanted to enter any stock exchange. Did you ever think why USSR even had any money? instead of what Lenin tried to do with New Economic Policy in late 20s? Because during NEP policy everything failed in USSR.

  • @StopFear Third, you express yourself like youre the result of a failing educational system, but then again english is not my native tounge so who am I to judge. Now I didnt finish my masters in economics but from figures I've seen about the communists states economies during the 20th centry, they showed a pretty good climb, especially in the USSR during the 20s-40s. I recomend you stick to uploading those probably oh so amusing movies starring your cat and not dabble in world economics.

  • @ContemplateHomicide

I recommend that you learn more English and know that I do not care about your advice, or your extreme political views.

  • @ContemplateHomicide

I recommend that if you are a socialist, marxist, or commuinst, however you describe yourself that you move to a socialist nation such as China, Cuba, whatever you like. Also, yes, I love my cat.

  • @StopFear You argues too simply, the way U explain Your thoughts thinks the most in socialistic goverments. Smth like "if U 'r not with us you are versus us, so go abroad". But it's basically wrong conclusion 'cause in a freedom democracy liberal goverment you can be anyone you want in a limits of a law of cause.

  • @StopFear So for example if you are Christian and the most in your country are Christians this fact don't give anybody of you a possibility to say to Muslims or Jews or anyone else to go out from the country where you are in majority. They got all rights to live how they want and Constitution grants them it. In an opposite case it calls discrimination..

  • @sicoticosandro

"Real money" may or may not have real value behind it. I know dollar is gradually losing value, so if you don't want to use it, then don't use it! Use whatever money you like in Chile. It is because it is called Fiat currency, not Gold or silver coins. I personally would rather USA return the Gold standard which it went off from in late 60s. USSR did not even try to back up the ruble with anything from year to year as no data was presented even to its citizens.

Y Pinera debe desaparecer.

  • @sicoticosandro What is it with you fucking reds and constantly calling other people, whole nations of people, pigs over their opposition to your stupid, oppresive and in most cases proven to fail economic and political regieme?

  • @NoLeftThumbs look.. i don't blame you to think like an idiot, after all, you have being idiotized all your life by hollywood propaganda. "red" systems fails in a big part cause of USA direct intervention. like in CUba and north korea. other "red" systems (i guess sweden is "red" to a yank) works succesfully with a lot of taxes and the state giving you all in retribution...the only thing we don't want is to be governed by bankers and billionaires, and we want colllectiveness, not individuality

  • @StopFear The exchange rate is 28 Рублей (rubles) to the failing US $. It was 35 Рублей by next year 15 Рублей , then 5 Рублей. As our greedy selfish culture rots away, I will escape my once great land of my birth, for my land of ancestery Russia. Capitalism once served America. Now banks rule and appoint polliticos like obama. Capitaism serves 1% of the richest people, while 95% struggle. In Russia I'll drive a truck earning little. That little wil sprt my needs, as Russia starts blooming.

  • @SoldatLenina1917 Yes, go ahead. Once you start researching Russia you'll be disappointed. (do you actually think it is not-Capitalist) it is actually more Capitalist based than USA. Their most economic growth is currently due to huge deposits of natural resources that they mine and export. It is not because of economic development of business. You will also see the extreme poverty that is hidden in Russia, behind the veil of modernity and beautiful images of Moscow streets.

  • I am no longer proud to be American. When I spent 6 mos in Nishnie-Novgorad Russia, I just knew I'd hate it, and not addapt to this alien culture. I learned Russkie Yaziek in 2 months, I relate socialy, mentaly, and culturely to the people. My very hard life in USA growing up and Russian friends here preped me for a life and mindset to be content with little possesions and solid relationships in russia. I was happy there with not much to possess. back to my life and stress here im going back.

  • @SoldatLenina1917

Look, if you are not proud to be an American, I do not think I should care because it is not any of my business. I recommend you drop your US Citizenship and apply for Russian Federation citizenship.

  • @StopFear I now am saving for move to Moskva as my best frieng kak brother's Mom owns a flat to east.Me and "brother" Yegor will stay in the flat with his sestra & mats giving support as we adjust. As Russkie speaker and expierienced "trucker" with work visa I earn driving gruseviek, a.k.a. truck. I have support group of druzya from my church in Tumen Siberia. I join this body of support. If job on logger truck falls thru, I stay with Pastor "P" and work on his reigndeer heard.

  • @StopFear First of all you must be absolutely oblivious and ignorant of the USAs history to be proud to be a citizen of the US ("american", its a country not a continent, egomaniacs). Second of all you obviously have no knowledge about economics since you claim the rubel wasnt a "real" currency considering it was the currency of the 3rd (possibly 4th) largest country in the world population-wise and was probably traded for in the whole East Bloc and other socialist states.

  • @ContemplateHomicide

I do not know if it is your lack of English or lack of understanding. You say it is wrong for Americans to use the term "American" when referring to themselves. Then it is you who lacks understanding of American history. This is done out of convenience, not out of any legal decision. Just like citizens of former USSR called themselves Russians and not "Soviet." You have an entirely different view of economics from most of the world, but that is your business.

  • @ContemplateHomicide

If something is used as a "currency" it does not mean it is "real" or backed up by something. Yes, if Russians if former USSR traded with each other in potatoes and meat it would be currency as well. Ruble is technically "currency" back then. But since the good were distributed according to central planning, nobody knew the real value of the ruble. If it had "real" value, no USSR citizen knew what it was, which is why Russians bought and stored Dollars whenever possible.

  • @sicoticosandro USA evil? I wished you lived in USSR at the same time this cartoon was made during Stalin, child, you don't know what evil is [Stalin killed MILLIONS of his own Soviet civilians].

  • @prjerry7 Americans kills millions of civilians in several countries.. to me they are not better and USSR is now dead, so let me blame the capitalist empire for all the misery and pain in the world (in fact, i'm right) i don't swallow yankee propaganda buddy.. to me they are an evil empire... because every empire in it's conception is evil. forcing other countries to be "democratic" nice eufemism to unslave economies.

  • @sicoticosandro When has USA killed millions of civilians? Don't mention Iraq/Afghanistan, 99% of the civilian casualties in that war are caused by suicide bombers from that country [civil war].

The global gdp is growing at a record pace internationally, the ONLY nations who were once powerful and are now hungry are nations who hardly used capitalism [former USSR states].

Democracy has nothing to do with capitalism, socialist system with democracy gov. exist in EU.

As i said you dont know evil.

  • @prjerry7 shut up yank.. i don't expect you to admit that your country is evil. i guess if mine was as disastrous as USA is, i would not recognize it too. ANYway, just think, why USA is almost hated in every poor or exploited nation on earth (and in developed nations too)? i guess it is not for being the good guys. The Monroe doctrine and the manifest destiny doctrine determined the role of USA as an evil empire in this world.. shut up and assume you exist in a murderous country. read about it

  • @sicoticosandro You have not answered my question; WHEN HAS USA KILLED MILLIONS OF CIVILIANS?

Give me valid sources, also, diciendo q porque todo el mundo odia a EEUU no significa nada es simplemente un comentario ridiculo.

ps; Chiles famous miners would not have gotten out without USA help....how EVIL of us :D

  • @prjerry7 vietnam, korea, irak, afganistan, el salvador, etc. Usa have killed millions of people directly or indirectly. Even in my country, the coup that killed the constitutional president of my country in 9/11/73, was backed up by USA. read about it. Your country is far away from innocence, the problem with USA is that they pretend to be good guys (like with the miners, just diplomacy) but they are far from that, hipocrites! USA people is not the problem (they manipulate you since you born)

  • @sicoticosandro Vietnam we failed, Iraq and Afghanistan i wont judge YET, if in 30 yars their still democracies and not rules by nutjobs like Bin Laden r Hussein [who killed millions of civilians with jujad] then i wont complain about those wars].

You complain of Korea? Without USA S. Korea would not exist, all of korea would be under kim jon who has starved and killed millions of Koreans.

Give me valid sources USA has killed millions of civilians!

I bet youv never come to USA C:

  • @prjerry7 and why USA even care if those countries are ruled by "evil" tirans?? nobody ask USA help.. you are very naive and you still think everybody wants "democracy" and plasma tv's and cars. No my naive buddy, not everybody thinks like an american, that's why we hate you around the globe, because you don't have empathy. anyway the supposed help from usa is never desinterested, they impose "democracy" because that permits them to buy politicians and finally own your country.

  • @sicoticosandro Rebels of lybia asked for USA help to become democracy, USA asked Frensh help for democracy and freedom from britich monarchy 300 years aago, now we enjoy our freedom. S. Korea asked for our help to give them democracy, we helped them and now their 1 of the wealthiest nations on earth while N, Korea is full of starvation, without USA help all Korea would be starving.

Sometimes our help works for best other times it works for worst [Vietnam], ill judge current wars later on.

  • @prjerry7 My last reply to you. USA financing, helping or whatever REBELS of Lybia is just a joke. Why they didin't help Che Guevara for example? just an ideologic thing. So all this "freedom" bullshit is just for naive people. Other thing: you really think S. korea "asked" for help? like a human being would do? obviously not, there are some people in S. Korea that believes free MARKET (the only real freedom in the states) is a good system, so THEY ask for USA help selfishly.

  • @sicoticosandro Free market does open the door for the big companies to fill the gap like walmart but thats subjective, democracies can have governments that are very centralized economically like EU [but this has also made their standard of living worse then in USA],

USA is helping libyans topple a 30 year evil tyrant, n korea tyrancy has killed millions of their own civilians, your from Chile so YOU should know.

just because USA didnt help in Guevara doesnt mean we shouldnt help libya now

  • @prjerry7 yes, there are some european countries with representative democracies (a little more democratic than USA) and with some restrictions to business, and that's why we don't hate them and we don't criticize them as a whole, and they happen generally to have better living standars than USA (sweden, norway, etc.) but they also fell in the bank crisis of 2008. neoliberalism find its sneaky way to rob people. france is now helping usa because is a right wing government, but france is decent

  • @prjerry7 the guevara thing you respond was just stupid... and now, and i'm gonna respect my words, i bid you farewell (i don't knoew if im using that phrase well)

  • @prjerry7 remember. democracy for USA is an instrument to neo-colonize other countries and usa itself is an instrument. my only question is The global elite, that use USA, freedom speeches, and democracy as an instrument to consolidate free market around the globe, is evil and lucrative or they really believe that it is a good system for mankind? i'm not sure about it. I believe in colective projects and a more natural existence, like in communities.

  • @sicoticosandro libya and egypt directly asked the USA and it's allies for help.

  • @NoLeftThumbs Lybia??? who?? gadaffi?? the rebels??? the country as if it were a person? why they didin't help the rebels of cuba for example in the cuban revolution??. you are so naive.. obviously is not an uninterested help-. if the rebel were marxists or musulman people, usa woont do nothing. uSA (a puppet state of the bankers) "helps" only the rebels that wants "democracy" stop being naive fools... USA is nothing close to a "good" country... au contraire.

  • @prjerry7 and if you don't give me an interesting reply... not a yankee brainwashed reply, i will stop arguing with you.. because i've learn from discussing with some yank fellas that sometimes they reply just to do it, without any single good argument.. just saying "we save countries2 "usa is good" "usa is free" "everybody wants to be democratic" etc.. pure shit!!

  • Naturally, everything represented here is symbolic, without one measure of truth. Just like Americans get from their media today, back then they Russians got 100% lies and propaganda. Ignorance ruled there, as it does here.

  • 6:54 thats where all are us dollars are going

  • If you think that the "one cent" piece was supposed to be a black person you sir are the racist. why do you think that? because he's brown? ever look at a one cent piece? theyre brown.

  • That's propaganda indeed xD

  • @kairokyuro

This is probably one of the worst propaganda cartoons they made because its too obvious. Thats why until recently I haven't seen it.

  • Wonderful cartoon very clever

  • I found it entertaining and simple enough to get the point across. Oh...and thanks so much for the translation. That helped immensley.

  • wheres the racism in this?

  • @andresrojas22

    Check the description

  • Wait a minute... Did one of the vending machines try to give cigarettes to (what is probably) a child?!

  • @WeegeeNo9999

Yes, that is exactly what it showed. I guess they may have had cigarette vending machines in post war years in USSR. I know we had those very dirty soda machines (with multi use glass) I think they were experimenting with differnt kind of vending machines in big cities right after the war.

  • @alHalwima Arm race wasn't some kind of competition. It was a matter of survival to protect the Soviet Union itself. USSR proposed many times to USA to mutual disarm nuclear weapons, proposed also mutual dismandle of NATO an Warshaw Pact, but USA refused.

  • @tsalkinec89

That's right, but I am not suggesting this cartoon is wrong about criticizing the arms race. Propaganda lies in the potrayal of west Germany, America, as well as "satellite" nations who dance with the little girl. They are also portrayed in a racist way. Which probably , at the time, wouldn't have been considered racist. And yes, if you remember, there was a disarmament treaty between USSR and USA in early 50s, which was broken by USSR when they tested a nuclear bomb.

  • @tsalkinec89 prehaps if russia and china didn't go about arming various anti american governments and moving nukes into cuba the western world would of had more reason to trust their disarmament propositions

  • @NoLeftThumbs oh realy, anti-americangoverments? Nukes? Who founded mutzahedin? Who established various dictatorships like Pinoset, greek junda, sadam husein, batista and many other? Well who else, USA imperialist state.

Oh yes wanna talk about nukes? USA bombed with nuclear bombes japan. Twice. Put nuclear missiles in Turkey and West Germany. Weaponise West Germany, founded NATO etc, etc, etc.

I'm sure if you werent see history and politics so "patrioticaly" you would admit those facts.

  • @tsalkinec89

Don't pull the "america only cunty vr fire a NUKE" line either, russia would of used it's nukes if it wasn't for the fact that the soviets were considerably less nuclear savvy than they made out in the cold war. Russia attempted to get nukes into cuba, costa rica, nicuagra etc, funded and armed the sandinistas, and the cuban rebels, armed n korea and the n.vietnamese, oppresed georgia, chechnya, khazakstan, lithuania etc.

  • @NoLeftThumbs there is sth you can't understand. i am not a anti-american or pro-russian. In fact i support american working class as any other oppresed people. So stop defending USA STATE (not nation or people) just becouse is "your" state. Every imperialist state uses terror and oppresion not only the USA. Capitalist Russia is also doing it.. Off course Soviets helped latin american people to overthrown the tyrany off course they hepled african people to deal with colonialism, why is this bad?

  • @tsalkinec89 There you go again making assumptions. I neither support america nor am I from there. It's you reds who turn a blind eye to the crimes and appalling breaches of basic human rights commited by the soviet union, china, n.kora, n. vietnam, cuba etc etc on the basis that they loosely follow a philisophical ideology that works in theory but not in reality, (continued)

  • @tsalkinec89 to top it all off, you go around calling people "dirty yanks" (protip that is a racially derogatory word) for commenting on the use of racism in soviet propaganda (which was and always has been common place in any propaganda).

Also there's nothing wrong with arming under developed countries to take on tyrants, but that's not why they do it. They do it so that they can get other people to die instead of their own. You're obviously uneducated in the area because everything you're

  • angry about america doing, communist nations did do and still do all the time, the only difference is that outfits like NATO eventually make amends for their crimes whereas russia STILL oppreses the people of georgia, checnya and various others because when the state is completely in charge there's no one with enough power to stop them.

  • @NoLeftThumbs Tell me first what do you know about "oppresion" of Georgia? If you realize the real world around just a bid deeper and get info not only from CNN and other media like that you would never said these things. Before judge Russia on their policy against Georgia learn about genocide of osetins by Georgian goverment. Chechnya is a part of Russia as a federal district to your knowledge. And what can you tell about Qazakhstan, Lithuania and other Baltic countries?

  • @advocatusdiaboli9

    1. i don't live in America I don't watch CNN

    2. Russia's war on Georgia was baseless, it was just an attempt to gain more control over former soviet lands.

    3. The Russians forbid the Lithiuanians from speaking their own language, forced them into the red army and banned most of their traditions. My ex girlfriend is Lithuianian and lived under Russian oppresion so I think I'm in a better place to comment on it than you are lol.

  • @NoLeftThumbs 1. Simple an iron argument in a XXI century.. I'm not from America also BUT but i do watch euronews, RT, sometimes CNN and aljazira, listening to Iran radio on russian etc. To listen a different opinions a single way to puzzle as сloser as it possibly to reality picture of the world. Can you understand even this at least..

  • @advocatusdiaboli9 Oh so when the news outlet has an anti russian stance its wrong but when RussiaToday supports it it's fine? Yeah because Russia isn't a country notorious for censoring it's news lol.

  • @NoLeftThumbs To be honest i suspected that you don't understand what i want to tell you.. Nobody tell you that RT or smth says a pure true, i told that it's better to get info from a different medias and only then build your own opinion. But i afraid it may be a bid difficult for you if you even didn't understand what i told you from the first..

  • @advocatusdiaboli9 My friend it is you who is having issues here. i don't know if its because English clearly isn't your first language or if it's because you're pig ignorant but I never said I only trust one news outlet, you said that without any backing and then you mentioned a bunch of pro russian outlets. I get my news from all over the place, you obviously do not.

  • @NoLeftThumbs Al jazira, euronews, iranian radio are "pro-Russians"?? Are u kidding me?

  • @NoLeftThumbs 2. I was personally talking to osetins who were bombed by Geogian's army, who lost their families, relatives and they were GRATEFUL to Russians. Is this enough for you to stop telling nonsences about Russian agression? As to gain control, it is naturally for any powerful country, it's not so important here. It's better tell me who was the first who started military operations having provoked Russians to start their actions?

  • @NoLeftThumbs 3. No, you mistakes here. Under Russians they recieved a lot of dotations to budget and only this saved them from excessive for their economic credits of the West banks . It must be cost of smth, don't You think so? But now Lithuianian and other Baltic nations are loosers in a vision of a world сommunity. They have got a huge external debt, high level of uneployment, low economic development, not competitive production etc.

  • @advocatusdiaboli9 Hahahahahah that is the biggest load of bullshit I have ever heard. Russia took the lands, raped it of any resource and forced it;s own traditions, language and laws upon them, it stole their workforce to be the lower down grunts of the army and sent them to a fruitless war in Afghanistan. there's no point arguing with an ignorant commie like you, if the russians commited a horrible mass murder like the holocaust you'd find a way to defend it.

  • @NoLeftThumbs >>Hahahahahah..

I can guess you are laughting over the people which famalies visited a grief. I had a talks with a real people, it's not only RT showed me that. Do u understand it?

    >>an ignorant commie like you..

As a ortodox Christian i have much more сlaims to those who bombed Serbia and killed there a dozens of thouthands of not any guilty citizens..

  • @NoLeftThumbs Learn history to understand why Russia got involed in a 1st WW. Russia steped there because of a treaty, to help Serbians from Austria-Hungarian agression. Russia lost there a lot of people, money prepared by all of that a soil for communists financed as a fashism from the West. To understand just a bid these things read at least Pasternak.. only then probably it will be more interesting to getting talks with you and u'll stop at last to equate all Russians to communists..

  • @advocatusdiaboli9 oh wait they did systematically kill off millions of citizens of lands they took.

  • there is a new tence in the USA (reflecting American society deadlocks) which demonizes pretty much every reference to cultural plurality (or something complitely irrelevant) . It's a new witch hunt. But don't put your taboo paradoxalities on an innocent soviet cartoon of fifties.

  • Americans have become so stupid that they blame everything on racism. If a white person dares to discover they're white, that's racism. If a silly low-budget cartoon shows currency in the dress of its host nation, it's racism.

American English is hopelessly ruined and incapable of carrying ideas of any weight. FYI, "racism" is a sociological term denoting the idea of racial superiority. "Bigotry" is the correct term for ethnic slander out of ignorance.

There is nothing "racist" in this cartoon.

  • LOL..all of the eastern european(soviet satelite)currencies were worthless. The USSR nedeed $US,GERMAN MARKS,YEN etc to do international business...betweeen communist states they practiced barter deals.

  • Very good movie. Anti-militaristic, anti-rasist, and anti-capitalistic. I like it!

What kind of moron call this movie "rasist"?

  • @sanktator

Don't troll please. This cartoon is only anti militaristic and anti racist in the mind of a viewer who may have lived in 1950's USSR, if you're in that state of mind, then fine.

  • @StopFear

I'm trolling? Are you crazy? I tell you the truth. Don't you see what this cartoon about?

  • @StopFear I've got to agree with sanktator.....Now don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that the Soviet State was anti-militaristic, or any other of those good things....BUT I don't see how anyone could see THIS cartoon as militant, or racist. What exactly do you see thats racist, or militant about it? Its propaganda sure...and paints American people in a bad light. But it paints other races in a positive light in general. Plus it has an anti-war message. Please explain Why U think otherwise.

  • @sanktator Apparently the moron that only uploaded parts of the original cartoon.

  • @sanktator Calling all West Germans Nazis, portraying British as all upper class toffs and portraying Americans as slow witted and using a black stereotype for them is racist I don't understand how anyone could be retarded enough to not notice this.

  • american cartoons aren't the only ones with typical black sterotype cartoons as this one shows. same with other races too.

  • @desiguy55

Yes, exactly why I wanted people to see this. I am looking for more, but then where I download these cartoons there are so many its hard to find what you need

  • modern jet planes in 1949? are you sure this isn't from 1959?

  • stupid soviet idiots don't see what was coming in 1991

  • For some reason, the Cent coin reminded me a bit of Joe Louis. Maybe it was based on him. (He was the World Champion Heavy Weight until somewhere around 1949).

  • Aside from the blatent propaganda of Germans being 'evil nazis', 'western = bad', ect ect, wouldn't this be more stereotyping then racist?

  • @FlamingCheesecake

Um, sure you could say that, there are way more race stereotypes in this, besides the germans.

  • @FlamingCheesecake

the depiction of the germans as nazi's comes from the russian fear that if germany reunited it would remilitarize and invade russia for revenge

  • i personally found this not to be racist. however, it might be so for someone else.

  • I'm sorry... is that racist?

  • @fistjkl

Some people disagree, but most people in America would see that as racist even if they're not politically correct. How you view this may depend on on where you are from. Also this is racist, but it may not be considered "very racist" I guess.

  • Mister cent, 50cent`s father.

  • very interesting cartoon

  • @DJYC21215

Cool, I am glad you like it. There are lots of these strange propaganda cartoons from USSR. Some more subtle than others. THis one is not subtle at all.

  • @StopFear We have propaganda here too lol. I wasnt suprised by this cartoon i was laughing the whole way. Its hailarious.

  • bloody soviet cartoons

  • This cartoon doesn't hilight much of the economic hardships faced in the soviet union... perhaps that was american propaganda? of what could you tell me to clear up a possible political muddling?

  • @chica476

I am not sure if I understand the question, but in case you are asking for my opinion, I think that when this cartoon was made in the 1950s Soviet Union was generally very poor by world's living standards except in big cities like Moscow, Petersburg, where tourists or dignitaries visited. They invested lots of resource based funds into building production and industry. Essentially every cartoon or movie in ussr showed that everyone had a lot of food and no one had need for money.

  • @StopFear

Ha, with unchecked spending, industry and other infrastructure can be put to waste... I guess I know now who's stretching the truth a little more.

  • @StopFear i hate when other nations blame the west for actions if the u.s. did it blame them not the entire contenit!!!

  • I find it funny how the Soviets were so convinced that West Germany would become a fourth reich.

  • @chica476

I don't know if they seriously believed it but I know the propaganda that it would become one was there for sure

  • are you absolutely sure it's from 1949? neither the truck nor the jet passenger plane look like 49 vintage :)

  • Some of the nationalities are quite recognizable stereotypes. However, the Hungarians at 0:38 will probably not be recognized by Americans.

  • The Soviet state wanted the money to go to positive growth, but when my extremely wealthy land ramped up hte coldwar, the USSR had to upgrade in self defence. A live and let live policiy by the US would have been great.

  • @pitbull040

Sure, if we were concerned strictly with economics, yes you're right. But even if had there been no cold war military race, the oppression of millions of people within the Soviet borders would still have occurred.

  • @StopFear

It's ultimately all relative and subjective anyway. Whatever hardships were faced surely paled in comparison to life under Czarist rule, which is why the people overthrew it and tried something different.

  • This can't be 1949 - it must refer to the Soviet currency reform of 1961, when 10 old rubles became 1 new one, and the kopeyka did acquire some spending power (you could buy a cup of tea or a box of matches with one). As for the "racism" - well hardly. Lots of racial stereotypes there in the drawings, but no racist intent as such.

  • @konoplyaev

Look, the year I am just quoting from what the end of cartoon said. But about racism, clearly you have different definition of racism. Do you think only racist intent is racism? Do you believe if someone unintentionally discriminates against a group of people its not racist? I am not trying to fight, but to understand you.

  • @StopFear It's all about context. I can't see any date at the end of the film - it just ends with "konets fil'ma", the date must have been cut off. But the currency reform where they introduced a new ruble which was worth 10 old ones (across the board) was in 1961. And the rockets-to-the-moon theme is a dead giveaway - 1961 was the height of the space race, when the USSR was very keen to boast how far ahead it was. That would not have been a theme in 1949.

  • @StopFear PS - all due respect and thanks to you for posting it - it's a classic. As for the racism - well, yes, the national stereotypes used to depict the other currencies of the world are crude, but hardly vicious. But we ought to look at them with the eyes of Russians 50 years ago, not of Westerners today. Just think what was considered acceptable in the USA five decades back, and you can appreciate how far standards have changed since then.

  • @konoplyaev

I will later upload the first part of the cartoon where the print says 1949. Why? I don't know. I realize that racism is often understood differently in Russian speaking countries of former ussr, but part of why I uploaded this so that people could compare is to American racist cartoons. A lot of people in America will claim they weren't racist either since it was culturally accepted. My personal opinion is that racism is not depending on time period.

  • This cartoon was a bald-faced lie. The Soviets were pissing a TON of money away on weapons. That's why they were so broke to begin with.

  • @alHalwima

yea I agree, also they , as part of propaganda, make it look like there is success and happiness in USSR, when everyone was poor and scared of government police and scared to say what they think.

  • @alHalwima

yes that , plus most capital was kept by the government and not released into the economy, everyone was poor except industry bosses, and people in capitals because they needed to show "people are doing well" when tourists would visit Moscow or "Leningrad"

  • @alHalwima agreed. It was blatent soviet communist propaganda. The cartoon is actually pretty funny how because of how stupid it is. I would love to see a soviet cartoonist make fun of the Soviet Gov, but they probably would have been thrown into Gulag for "dissent and encouraging rebellion".

  • @alHalwima It was a vicious cycle. after the revolution, the soviet people were hyped up about a holy war against oppressive capitalism so they made a huge army, the capitalists made bigger armies to match and it went on.

  • @alHalwima Weren't the Soviets who started the arms race but the USA. After that USSR was forsed to do so. There wasn't any interest for the Soviet Union to spend a lot of money for weapons.

  • @tsalkinec89 But it was the Soviets' fault for participating in the first place. I'm not saying America is superior or anything, but it takes desperation to exhaust one's resources into sizing up another.
