@TheJalza idk I'm pretty sure they are mainstream, but even so being mainstream doesn't matter if you're good. In fact I like bands better when they're unknown to everyone else but myself and a group of friends.
When I left "Omaha" with "Mr Jones" we went to a place full of "Perfect blue buildings" it was there, that we met the "Rain king" he was reading a book called "Murder of one" he looked up from his book and said "Time and time again" "Anna begins" "Raining in Baltimore". Another beautiful song, from this sweetheart of a debut record. I had this on tape cassette. nearly twenty years on and the songs are just as vital VITAL. (vital)
@ZoeyAnnElise Your 11 and you really cant speak for what you like and dont because your opinion has not matured enough to actually understand what like and dislike is.
@obeyance ..the heck? she can totally tell the diff. if she loves this, she loves this. if she hates rap.. she hates rap. EVERYBODY has opinions, and yes, SHOCKINGLY(with all the sarcasm in the world) eleven year olds have them as well. pff 11 year olds cant speak for what they like..thats the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard!
Right, and since everyoen has opinions and is 100% on them... My nephew likes Mac and cheese... Then he doesnt like mac and cheese... Then he likes mac and cheese then he doesnt like mac and cheese... This can happen in a 5 min convo with him. He doenst like water. He hats water. He hats Mac and Cheese. He hates trains. He hates his mom. He hates me. He likes me. He loves and likes his mother. He likes mac and cheese. He likes Trains. He likes water.... Do you see where im going with this?
@obeyance well yes, i do. But then again, i don't know a person who doesn't change their minds. i just didn't understand why you were saying that she has no clue what like and dislike is, while by the looks of her comment, she does..
@LiteSwitch100 Your missing the point. Its more than just someone saying that they have an opinion or changing it. Its knowledge of the subject that allows one to make this decision. My nephew said he hated mac n cheese, before he even tried it. Had to practically force him to eat some and he discovered that he LOVES mac n cheese. Do you understand? This girl is 11, most likely from a middle class, white family living the dreams of suburbia. Wait till shes in high school and see what she things.
@chshire2020 You dont get the argument. If you did you would understand that what you said holds about as much water as a sieve. If she was alive during that time i wouldnt have said anything as she would have been at least 18 and most likely experienced the world enough to make educated statements. But an adolescent saying that they HATE something is a bit far fetched on a very large amount of things, wouldnt you think?
@ZoeyAnnElise Right with you, except I'm 14. The only rap song I care to listen to is Not Afraid by Eminem. Everything else that's rap is just crud to me. I found my mom's Counting Crows CD almost a year ago and haven't taken it out of my CD player since. I listen to it every night. I love their music!
This band is one that gets inside your soul and plays with the strings- the memories, Adam makes it inside and strums your life to a different pace of understanding. This is my favorite song of Counting crows-- love it-- love him-- he brings me to a state of loving life and looking for reasons to believe. Thanks Man!
This is one of my all time favorite albums. In the 90s there were a few albums that I cherished. Today there is not really even one song that I like. I turn the radio on and I find myself wanting to vomit.
"In those days spirits were brave, the stakes were high, men were real men, women were real women and small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri were real small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri."
i am sick of people restricting the access to videos. Great song, but i would like to download it through youtube converter rather than pay for it. idiot.
The accordion is so dominant to me. It has a powerful eulogistic effect and I can't help but think of Downeaster Alexa by Billy Joel. Both songs pay beautiful tribute to a faded era of American culture- the midwest farmer and the northeastern sea captain. Storytelling like this is hard to find these days.
The accordion is so dominant to me. It has a powerful eulogistic effect and I can't help but think of Omaha, by the Counting Crows. Both songs pay beautiful tribute to a faded era of American culture- the midwest farmer and the northeastern sea captain. Billy Joel is another level of musical talent, but Adam Duritz is a wonderful storyteller in his own right.
I don't have a 'favorite' Counting Crows song, but OMAHA is right up there, always has been...BTW I just stopped by the website for the first time in a while and came across a killer vid on there, I was floored....did Adam get sober or something? I hope so. I still luv him anyway tho, of course :=)
@TheJalza Its not at all bad, maybe a shame they don't get the credit for the quality of music, but mainstream always has a way of ruining amazing music.
@TheJalza I just wish they didn't fall off so quickly like many bands of this era did, Wallflowers is another one for example, how can you make an album with a handful of just great songs and then fade into nothing for 10-20 years??
@jerrkawz lol to me 'mainstream' means you have to sing your name at least once in every song (your name is your brand now adays), you should stick to singing about getting drunk and having sex (and make sure to have lots of T&A in your video so kids dig it).
As far as I am concerned if the Counting Crows NEVER go 'mainstream' then they are doing EVERYTHING right :)
@zeebarr they accomplished their music on their own. They didn't have a successful album and produce a whole series of songs that mimicked their successful 'single hits', for one. To have a triple platinum album on your first album means simply you waited till you produced something of value. Mainstream is defined by how the band was organized. Also, this band sounds nothing like 'mainstream' alternative, or rock, or anything of that nature- making it unique- which makes it not mainstream.
@jellobefore pretty hard feat to top this album. i don't know if they could. this album was perfect for the times when it came out. that's a tragedy of some bands. they put out there best work first.
Rarely do we have an album where we like to play everything from beginning to end. This is one of those amazing albums that you NEVER get tired of. I've worn out at least two CD's of August and Everything After over the years in my car due to constant play until I bought my third copy and a mp3 player and simply burned the album into it.
@obsidiansands this is a top 3 album for me all time if not No 1....love it start to finish...saw these guys with the Wallflowers in the late 90s...awesome show~!
@obsidiansands i was just about 2 say the same thing! Pink Floyds dark side of the moon and The Whos tommy albums r like that 2 and a few others like neil young but i think that more my personal opinion :)
This song has a certain magic to it. I wouldn't say Counting Crows is a fav band of mine, though I do think they are excellent. But this song is most definitely one of my 'life' songs. It's up there on my lifetime soundtrack. Ahhh it's so soothing :)
@DMB206 You must dig for good music as for carrots. Get a little dirty and move around. MTV isn't in business to provide good music. They're in business to make money.
@DMB206 What I'm saying is, good music won't come to US. Not on the radio, TV, anywhere. You have to look for it. Live shows, the internet, talking to people like yourself, even mailorder.
i live in omaha right now i love it...i only have 30 days till i go back to minnesota for the summer...then im transfering to a school in st louis but i will never forget omaha!!
I love the Counting Crows, and I really love this song. I play(ed) the accordion myself, and I realy like to hear it in modern music like this. And, this album is one of the 3 only cd's I have ever bought. That should say something...
@awyren Not counting the cd's I got from other people. I'm just way to lazy to buy them ;) And too lazy to pop them in the cd player, I'm just more of a radio and youtube girl. :D
@elckedifferent Counting Crows are Awesome no doubt, but Edward Mayer uses the accordian in modern dance music! you need to broaden your horizons a bit! get some more albums and really listen to music instead of being in a room with one chord!
went to a bar last night and the guy was singing this.....i just mived to omaha in august for school and the bar went nuts and sang along it was pretty cool
Counting Crows is an old favorite of mine. It was my first favorite music group when I was in High School in the 90's. This album, in particular, never gets old.
I think you better turn your ticket iin......

@elckedifferent You don't have to explain yourself to anyone. Good call buying this one. I don't own it, myself, but I should have.

@elckedifferent Counting Crows are Awesome no doubt, but Edward Mayer uses the accordian in modern dance music! you need to broaden your horizons a bit! get some more albums and really listen to music instead of being in a room with one chord!

@elckedifferent well im not sure about that, considering your name -> ....different!!?!!

@elckedifferent if i could only pick 3 cds this might actually make it, the whole album was great, one of the defining albums in my teen years

Counting Crows is an old favorite of mine. It was my first favorite music group when I was in High School in the 90's. This album, in particular, never gets old.
