  • @claireseach. Definitely NOT a Copeland whistle. Not close to resembling one. Fairly certain that it is a wooden whistle made by the great flute maker Michael Grinter.

  • Name of the second reel? I know it, but don't play it properly and want to learn it better!

  • sax is great ..thgis is as far as fusioin goes ..should go!...so dont be con-fused ..enjoy the grat mix

  • Hey that's winnie from solas in the back on fiddle.

  • I enjoyed it live at Ballyshannon Folk Festival 2003!!! Great!!!

  • @KissakiSan i agree. the sax is a bit out of place

  • has she got three lungs?? CLASS

  • i love the tin whistle... wish i cud play it.. must get up off my lazy ass and learn it..

  • She is from Ireland. It is Sharon Shannon. She is Great!

  • Sharon Shannon ... soooo Gifted !

  • I'd never heard of Sharon Shannon until I saw two vids today. She's excellent. Her playing has soul.

  • Looks like one of Dixon's polymer whistles.. could it be??

  • @onearmfrog To me it seems like a Copeland whistle

  • why does everyone need to complain or stress an opinion! listen to the fuckin tune and shut the fuck up! whats wrong with puttin your ownn stamp on irish music. she travels the world so she is obviously doin something right, so quit the begrudgery and take the fingers out and see if any of ye moaners can accomplish what she has in her lifetime!!!

  • wooo i am the 100th like :)

love the song Sharon the best, great fussion of celtic and jazz

  • aw just class there hi!!! :-)

  • In response to all the comments claiming this set is identical to the version Lunasa recorded, well, Sharon recorded her version about ten years before Lunasa. Considering that at that time Donogh Hennessey and Trevor Hutchinson were her accompanists, it isn't surprising that the arrangements are similar.

  • Excellent playing!!!

    Ruiseart.

  • sharon shann..........not my type on the box. i dont like the fact that she completely makes the music jazzy......however, i wont deny that shes an excellent musician

  • I recently discovered the Lunasa version of this called Island Paddy.

I'm told the Lunasa version is the original.

I love Sharon's version though. She's a wee legend. I've seen this live and met her after and she rocks!

  • Tin whistle, Acordian,Fiddle, she can play them all amazingly. Is she the worlds greatest living musician?

  • :) fantastic song!! unify the music, unify the people!! i enjoy this fusion. in fact this has inspired me to learn this song on tin whistle!

no bother ha! i jus cant stand ppl talkin like dat! pisses me off!

  • OH YES ! 5 STARS !

  • thank you again steveeb58

  • wow................

it sounds as though theyre mixing jazz and folk together..........i think it goes really well!

but i agree about the sax................makes everything seem more rocknroll when its not

  • Tje other musicians just messed up what would hae been a great performance.

  • yea, just a bit too loud in the mix

  • I don't see a need for so many instruments up there, all they need is Sharon and MAYBE a guitar player and bass.

  • Comment removed

  • Well they probably played other songs that incorporated the other instruments besides just this one. And it's not like they sound bad.

  • fast fingers...

  • can enyone tell me wich kind of whistle this is? I've seen that model in many videos, and it sounds great..

  • Superb Whistle playing, awesome, but personaly I would kicked all the other musicians off stage:)

  • Oh, for heaven's sake..kick Gerry O'Connor and Jim Murray off stage wouldya? Good luck with that.

  • hey this is the rhatlin island but is a second reel too...and the name isss?....?????

    ???

    teelll meee!

  • Second reel - Rakish Paddy

  • Close. Sporting Paddy (or "Sporting Pat")

  • wow superb whistle

  • loooovely.. i'm not really a fan of the sax as a part of the arrangement though, i enjoyed the beginning (with just the guitar as buckup) more than the rest..

  • Excelente! cual versión fue primera? la de Lunasa, o la d Sharon??? xq la verdad me gusta más esta! su toque de jazz fusión es excelente!

  • It is a D whistle.

  • Suas E!

  • anyone know what brand and key she's playing

  • Well, looking back on Lunasa's version, its considerably different. But similar in some way too. "Almost identical" is a bit far-fetched.

  • What the crap? Since when does she also play whistle really well too?? Wow...

  • Total awesomeness!

  • Does she breath also?! ;P

  • nice one .

  • Lunasa played an almost identical arrangement to this.

  • Well, at least Lunasa didn't have drums and a sax. Ick! She does play Sporting Paddy a little different too, though. I'm sure that she got it from Lunasa, or vice versa. I think they've played together, so they probably have played each other's arrangements sometimes.
