  • so sad they crushed them ): such awesome cars.

  • I just watched Who killed the electric car, and the ev1 was one of the best electric cars produced. It was big oil, GM and consumers that caused the ev1 to flop. People are to selfish to give up their individual wants for the greater good. Instead of keeping Ev1 on the market GM scrapped the Electric car idea and went with the Hummer instead....WTF?!

  • Who cares if its ugly that car gets you were u wanna go. It was one of the best cars ever created honestly... What a.shame...

  • this car is so damn ugly... omg ! :O

  • fack GM, oil,

  • Honestly this has be the best car ever, I can't believe they took off the market :( Makes so sad that I will never get to see one.. Damn oil, why do you have to ruin everything!

  • I love the sound of that car!

  • Wow I don't recall seeing one of these cars and I do live in California

  • My facebook group for the ressurection of the EV1 =)

Type "Pour que Général Motors refabrique la EV1 =)"

Do not hesitate has to come numerous ^_^ to be able to press general motor and the lobby of the oil =)

  • if they just put those technology inside a honda crx body then it would have sold like hot cakes

  • @Jacno77 There was never a problem in selling them. More people then production would allow wanted the car. It was clear that it was pressure from the oil companies. GM even took back every car and destroyed it so no one could ever reproduce a wonderful invention. Soon it will come back.

  • all cars should be elettric! fuck the oil !

  • Did Gm demand the cars back or we're some people able to keep them refusing to return them?

  • @bigbradford69 GM only allowed us to lease them so they still had the title so they got them all back :(

  • I wish you could of bought your car back from GM. The EV-1 program should of never been terminated. They should of least gave an option to EV-1 owners to keep their cars.

I lost tons of respect for GM over this.

  • You have got to be kidding me!!! That thing is beautiful, it looks futuristic and it sounds like something out of the 23rd century....if people bought the Prius, GM could have sold thousands of the EV1.

  • Libertad!!!!!!

  • 1:12 ....Back to the Future!

  • Driving it might have been an unique experience! Such a great project, killed by the Oil Mafia and evil General Motors. What a shame.

I love the reverse tic toc sound! So funny and cool! And the sound of driving it makes you feel like if you were in the 22nd CENTURY!

    Rest in Peace, world-friendly automobile!

  • RIP EV1. Shame on gm. It was the Future.

  • Oil is an important raw material for medicine and plastic. We should protect this raw material. The electric car is the only correct way!

  • The warp engine sound rocks! What a waste that they just destroyed these awesome machines. If GM truly had to take'em all back, they should have all been put into a museum or at least allowed to be driven until the wheels feel off.

  • this video is sad

  • they werent recalle dfor a issue

the oil companies paid GM to destroy them with the research!

    this is OBVIOUS!

  • I love the electric motor sound!

  • Uhhhh no this car was ended in April 24 2003. The last 78 ev1`s were crushed in 2005

  • was that loud "woshing" noise the charger?

  • GM should've never been bailed out for killing this car. They could've been tweaking electric vehicles over the past decade and releasing cars like an all-electric Tahoe that would put Mercedes V8's to shame.

Now they're "banking" on a first-gen Volt that barely gets a fraction of the EV1's mileage per charge? Hopefully GM goes bankrupt this time. Then again, the gov't and GM might hire more actors to find "problems" like "large keychain jams turn signal causing accidents in Toyotas, etc."

  • @sirjabroni123 Are you fucking retarded the volt is a hybrid car you can compare that to the EV1 which is all battery. Yea once the 40 miles from the battery are gone the motor charges up the battery to go longer buit again its a HYBRID it has a gasoline engine also

  • @suddenkilla24 Before spewing out more crap, what I was saying was with how advanced the EV1 was in its time, it could have been tweaked to kill off what the Volt could do on battery-only before the Volt's generator kicked in. Aside from the generator, lets see... Volt is powered by electric motor and battery system, wait so is EV1... yeah, COMPLETELY different, idiot.

  • @sirjabroni123 they had electric cars hundred years before this one they were fine they were 30% of the vehicles made back then

  • The car was recalled?

.... as far as I can tell it was recalled because big oil companies killed it.

  • I would like this car. Not for the "environment" part of it, but the fact that it cost less to own. Less maintained. If you think about it the electricity you use to drive that car is mostly produced by coal. I do wish we had a ton more windmills, they power more than I thought.

  • @Hotrodrogers91 Your right. Unfortunately the electricity used for from usually comes from a typical power plant.

But combustion emissions are easier to clean from a power plant than from billions of cars.

  • @Lukeidea Which they can only do when they become more efficient,

  • @Lukeidea Many power plants are hydro electric. Another great invention from Nikola Tesla who designed the first hydro-electric power plant in Niagara Falls and started the electrification of the world.

  • @bronxboyXXX good point :p

The electric car needs to be pushed out IMO.

  • @Lukeidea I agree. We can use Hydro or thermal-electric power plants. Using coal or nuclear makes absolutely no sense unless it is your intention to build bombs or destroy the planet. Even if wind and solar are not the most efficient options they are options none the less & it's long past time the prices came down further so that everybody can afford them. You need green to go green. I fucking hate my generation!

  • Ahhh the good old oil companies. so scared they will lose money. I will be honest im not a fan of electric cars but i do respect them for what they are built for. But the oil companies being scared that they will lose profits. Thats just pure greed and bullshit.

  • i think we can generate a tremendous amount of electricity from the wheel or the spinning of the axle on an electric car. it practically recharges the battery for you while you are driving. there should be research done on this technology by automobile manufacturers.

  • @heartlessvietboy um hello, if you are turning a generator, you are using more electricity to move the vehicle,it's a suicidal cycle that just decreases range. think about it.

  • Have you ever seen spinning rims on a tire? The concept is the same. When the tires rotate, there can be a device inside the wheel that generate electricity. it can be a small electric conductor. it uses natural rotation to conduct electricity without decreasing range. The power gain to weight of conductor ratio is positive, not negative.

  • @heartlessvietboy i'd like to see the statistics on that one

  • There is already a patent on that idea. i have yet to see that technology myself but i think automobile manufacturers will produce one. Regarding why GM pulled their EV's, i think it is more financial and practical than political. But GM has one of the first mass produced electric cars in the Chevrolet Volt due to release in the Fall of 2010 and i cannot wait to test drive one.

  • OMG!!! The tires are spinning anyway!! You're not using any electricity to move!!! Somebody needs to say something!!!!

  • GM JUST DUG THEIR OWN GAVE.

  • @toyotaprius79 But the Prius is the ugliest car out there. Ha, no offense,

  • if i would have had one.. it would have been reported stolen the day before the recall :P

  • I'm sorry for you for having your 2nd one stolen by GM and then destroyed because it had a low maintenance cost.

  • Просто супер!

  • They just said it was an "electrical issue" because gas companies got angry that it ran on electricity not oil.

  • ohh killing ev1 now its bankrupt cause and effect GM

  • what gm has achieved with his anty ev1 policy is we all will buy an electric car from another company, and gm will eat a shit.

  • @dafaucas FUCK GM. This was such a nice vehicle. JUST THE SOUND OF ACCELERATION GIVES ME GOOSE BUMPS. LOVE THAT THING.

  • Yup, just watched "who killed the electric car" Its really sad, corporate America oil companies and the consumer including the government fucked us.

  • GM = FAIL

  • @UCin30

    Stop using that word

  • Shame on GM

I will never ever buy a GM vehicle until they make fully electric cars.

Consider it a personal curse from me to you GM.

  • @anonymityismyname Yea i was all about chevy intill i found out they did this. Now i dont feel like i will ever buy a GM vehicle again, most of my friends got rid of theres also. I cant wait for Tesla Motors too make the cars a little cheaper, I RECOMMEND everyone go chk them out. There located in 11163 Santa Monica Boulevard

Los Angeles, CA 90025 Awesome stuff, dont buy but chk it out the possibility in what they offer and are producing.

  • @anonymityismyname Why? What fully electric car do you drive now?

  • @gpgab971 Nissan Leaf.

  • @anonymityismyname Oh really. You drive a Nissan Leaf?

    *facepalm*

  • @savemeharpo ahahaha not even out yet ahhaha

  • @anonymityismyname yea to bad that car isnt out to buy yet

  • @anonymityismyname the only reason they stopped making it is because congress and the california didnt want the car because they couldnt make money off it. Congress only lets cars be made that they know they can make money off of. Like right now they have every one stuck on gas thats their way of making money ICE and hybrids are the closest theyll let be made. The service on this was every 5000 miles rotate the tires thats all the service it had and this car was ended in 2001 not 2006

  • Comment removed

  • @anonymityismyname Hey I share your view too, but the idea of the VOLT is not a bad one. Having a small gasoline car acting as a generator, so you're not stranded if you run out of juice. But 40 FUCKING MILES on a battery? The EV1 could do 2 1/2 times more and it was back in the 90's. With today's technology, they can't make it go more than 40 miles on a charge? FUCK YOU GM.

  • Don't be confused ... developing alternative energy sources is not about Global Warming. The fact is that the world only has just so much oil and we don't want to be caught with our pants down when the spigot runs dry.

  • The EVi ... Great Looking, great performing electric car which could have been the first generation of a very successful line of electric cars for GM (electric cars WILL BE the car of the future.) GM allowed a glimpse of the future but something scared the hell out of them and they quickly and secretly collected all the EV1s and destroyed them. Hmmmm. For the enlightened - electric cars are here now. When gasoline hits $10.00/gal, the rest of the American public will begin to see the light.

  • Here's the deal... take a ride in LA, NYC, Atlanta or any large city and enjoy the dangerous stench that is spewed from the tailpipes of millions of cars and trucks powered by gasoline and diesel fuel. If asthma, emphysema and chronic bronchitis are not enough reasons to reduce smog and air pollution levels then just take another puff on your inhaler and look forward to your children slowly choking to death ... all because we blindly plod along like sheep to the slaughter.

  • If you don't think that The Big Oil Companies don't lobby and bribe or elected officials to maintain a monopoly they have enjoyed for nearly a century then YOU ARE A FOOL. The have done and will do anything they can to kill their competition. Their tentacles are powerful and far-reaching. Don't just spew an opinion based on your worthless gut feeling. Read, research and learn what really goes on as Big Oil manipulate the system. They spend millions annually to make sure gasoline is #1.

  • Now if you had a flux capacitor in that thing, you could go back in time and ride it over and over again.

  • ces triste la voiture idéal mais dans les mains

d'une entreprise merdique junkie au pétrole

GM je te souhaite de crever la gueule ouverte

RIP EV1 on pensera a toi quand il y aura des palmier en Gaspésie

  • horrible looking car, great idea

  • Great technique, great idea - and great looking!

  • WoW i love sound of acceleration ^^ Anyone know what engine was used in this car ? (producer name, power, amps etc.). I dont care about global warming but it would be lovely to be independent from OiL companies and to have clean envoirment. Global warming itself is bullshit, its damn cold here in central Europe. Actually temperature is much lower than in last 10 years.

  • Global warming is not only the raise of temperatures. It´s extremes, The summer get´s warmer and winter gets colder,....

You should care about global warming...but hey, at least you want to finish the lobby of oil. That´s something!

The car was made by General motors and destroyed soon after. Check the documentary: "Who killed the electric car" It explains a lot about this dangerous topic to car manufacters: Electric cars!!!!

    Peace...

  • @Afinfas Global warming is a natural think that happens because of the sun, in a cyclical way.

  • I dont understand, I see advertisements saying that the skier is going extinct because of global warming and then others say that its extremes.

The reality is the planet naturally changes in temperature and nature told the eco frieks to piss of and made all the states snow this year

I suppose the ice age happened because the dinosaurs pissed out to much liquid nitrogen

  • I too was blown away by the EV1 after watching the documentary. I spoke to many people, like me, who had never heard of the EV1. I bet there would have been Millions of people interested in the car if we had known about it. This car could go 150 miles before recharge. That's plenty for most of us. What's with the crappy-little-fart-cart GM Volt. Who would want that thing? The price would have come down if they had mass produced the EV1. Very Cool Car. Piss on GM and the oil companies.

  • @crankabit I just watched the last 20 minutes of it today. Mind blowing, the potential of that car.

  • I do like this car very much but that whole documentary was total bs

The reality is that it wasn't a good business decision the car wasn't profitable so after the test run gm got rid of it. Just because you can run a little survey were people say they like it doesn't mean there actually buying it

The oil company's have nothing to do with eachother and that documentary was more of raph naders bitch studies to take down general motors and i honestly dont understand how people can believe him

  • I feel your heartbreak. I just saw a documentary last night on the EV1 and it is really sad that such a beautiful car was doomed from the beginning. GM had a gold mine in their grasp. Honda and Toyota lost money initially on their hybrids but eventually those losses turned into profits. Had GM stuck with the EV programme, they would not have to take money from the government just to stay in business. They doomed the EV1 from the beginning just like they doomed Saturn from the beginning.

  • I understand all the EVs were leased? Why didn't you just keep it? Do you think U.S. Marshals would've been involved? haha Probably. What a corrupt situation between U.S. Government, GM, and big oil. U.S. citizens loss.

  • Probably the most successful and popular electric car ever. Pity that there were so many road blocks put in the way of this cars' success.

Electical issue sounds like an excuse to me.

I hope the Volt doesn't go through the same process of elimination (and crushing post lease) for oil profits.

  • 2006? wern't they crushed in the 90's?

  • The last batch were crushed in 2005

  • they were MADE in the 90s...

  • gm is so fucking foolish...there basically complete idiots...theres a high demand...i hope an independent company rises and knocks gm out of the game all together...a company that really cares about the environment and not just the money

  • The fact that everyone else including toyota canceled their EV programs, and nobody has made a competitive consumer grade EV to this day tells you that GM was a little bit ahead of themselves with the EV1. And you are foolish for blaming a company for not continuing with a business model that was set to lose them a crazy load of money.

  • your foolish

  • you managed to misspell one word in a two word message... anyway, thanks for your insightful side of the argument..

  • DUDE...on the real...are you really gonna sit there and try and pick fights from your keyboard? really just leave me the fuck alone...if your gonna comment someones comment...make sure its positive next time!

  • DUDE, are you serious? I was just trying to grasp your reasoning behind YOUR hateful comments. And now that you're unable to form an adult argument, you launch a personal attack. Just don't comment at all if you can't back up your opinion.

  • I live in america...i can say and have what opinion i want...if i cant back it up...so what...i still have the freedom to an opinion...who are you to say so

  • well youre the one who is trying to limit me to making only positive comments on your negative posts hahah... Yes you can say whatever, but im glad that at least you were willing to admit that you can't back it up, and it's nothing more than a baseless opinion..

  • LOL your a trip

  • yea yea go worship another Michael Moore video or something..

  • I wish that were true. I think GM were absolutely spot on with the EV1. The demand was extremely high, the product seemed perfect for California (if not many large cities with the ability to implement the infrastructure).

Unfortunately while GM was ahead with this product, unless the US government finally comes to the party and mandates requirement for zero emission vehicles to encourage US car makers to invest in and produce EV's, the other majors will take over. Japan already leads the way now

  • it was a cool car, I agree. But being a limited range two seater, it couldnt be more than a very expensive second car.

A few thousand people or whatever the waiting list was - out of 30 MILLION Californians is NOT huge demand. In fact, it's a massive failure. - no way for them to make their money back. I keep repeating myself, but the only other company that came close to trying this was Toyota, with the same result!

  • A waiting list for any car shows that demand exceeds supply. A few thousand waiting for a niche vehicle such as this would be equivilant to 20,000 waiting for a Ford Taurus. That many people wouldn't wait for a Taurus globally, let alone in California.

Unfortunately while the world is run by oil companies, electric cars will never be allowed to succeed.

But being Australian, from a distance it's great to see a US car company make something useful for a change. Pity they shot themselves in foot

  • ok think logically for a second. there were a few thousand people who wanted to get it for a heavily subsidized price, meaning that GM was taking a loss on every vehicle because of the cost of batteries. If GM wanted to lease it for a PROFIT, how many people do you think wouldve wanted it? The fact that it was a niche vehicle was the very problem with it! There wasnt enouch volume to sustain the program unless GM lowered the price even more! ...

  • continuing, If you really think GM wanted to sabotage it all along, why would they put up such an effort and investment, designing it from scratch, making it as aerodynamic as possible, basically going all out to be the best? They could've just half assed it like Toyota, or not even try at all!

When they saw that battery technology showed no promise of increasing range and reducing size, and the demand was modest at best even at a loss, why continue to pour money into it?

  • They upgraded the battery technology and it was fine. The proof was in the pudding - the drivers who drove them thought they were amazing.

Explain why GM went out of their way to retrieve and destroy every vehicle?

It will take a large non-American company to produce a globally successful electric car unfortunately. And only when fuel reserves are at a minimum and oil companies expand to become diverse energy providers rather than just petroleum products.

  • @inodesnet the upgrade increased range, but not decreased cost. Unfortunately, with capitalism, there will not be an electric car until it makes sense financially - something that EV1 did not. It was an amazing car to those who could afford to have it as a second car. These people got it for the coolness of it, not for savings on gas. To you, a skeptic, id like to point out that GM is again the pioneer in EV development, (the Volt), and I would look forward instead of being stuck on the past.

  • youtube sucks they dont give you anough room to say what u wanna say sometimes

  • if you were ironic this was realy funny, if you werent, this was very, very stupid

  • your the stupid one wasting your lifes away to protect the earth and for what future genarations y work so hard on something that you can not get the benafits of

  • lol.....Nice thinking BUT if we all thought that way earth would be done already..... yeah... Lets all just be selfish and live for today, fuck tomorrow....

    YES lest do it.....

  • yeah y not bc noone knows what tomorrow will bring so we must just make the best of what today brought to us

  • yup, people say that oil will run out in 2200! that's AGES away!

  • buy the 2200 huh do you think you will live that long thats two centrys away who seys the human population will even survive that long who said the earth will be around that long think about this shit ppl our time here is limited no matter what do to try keep the earth habbitable what happend if this 2012 think comes to pass then what

  • exactly, this whole thing is all hyped up! just enjoy life i say :-)

  • im happy to know that theres still someone out there that think the way i do and dont go the way of the government i think that 90% of the ppl out there plays into the governments plans to make the population there pupets

  • I agree. Sheepos that's what they are. They tell us they dont have means to build a car that can go beyong 40 miles on electricity and in 96 they had that EV1 that did 150. But what a nice sound it makes when it accelerates. DAMN!!!!!!!!!!

  • dont tell me you buy in to this globle warming crap this crap that we will run out of oil soon and if we keep driving on fassal fuels that we will fuck up this plant this is just another thing like obama just bc the mass meadia seys its a bad thing or a good person ppl gos along with it ill tell ya what the problem is its the damn ppl up on wall street not global warming not obama u see the want u to buy EVs bc EV cost more they are trying to send every one into the poor house and there useing

  • obama to do it u see its all part of a bigger plan of theirs to creat a one world government they make the worlds money fall apart and claime the only way to regrow its self is to become one

  • if you are looking to debate on batteries, you are talking to the wrong guy. I know more than you on this subject.

  • ...i love GM EV1...

  • If that car was still being made today, it would be THE only GM car I'd buy... But GM just wanted to make big, gas-guzzling SUV's because they know dumbass Americans would be stupid enough to get one and spend so much money on it later when it got old. That's why people have turned to Imports.

  • too expensive, my cell phone battery was 60 bucks, and guess what is has to be replaced every so often. and your going to have a considerbly higher electric bill. 767 watts equal 1 horsepower. 80 horsepower car equals 61360 watts you have to charge after 80 miles. these ev1's where rumered to be able to go 60 to 70 miles so im being generious.

  • Usually it's the consumers that would make the complaints and the car company would sing the praises.

With the EV it seems all the consumers were extremely happy, demand was high.

Products like the EV showcased massive advances in battery technology. Try and find the same batteries now... and you'll probably find the investment has shifted to countries like Germany that are encouraged to reduce emissions by EU rather than the oil driven, SUV crazy US.

    ...continued

  • sounds like a spaceship :)

  • All well and good, but what doe this do to your Electric Bill? Mine is close to $200. a mo now............There has still got to be a better mouse trap...

  • We are the most dangerous people to ourselves. Self imposed Ignorance is not the way. No problem, I'll buy my electric car from a foreign company because American Companies are to busy screwing themselves and us. Why we bailed these assholes out (American car companies)I will never understand?

  • Its easy to understand, these companies give millions of dollars to individuals in the government. So if the people in power want to still have power they need to bend over and give what these companies want.

  • Thanks for posting this, it really sucks that a car that got over 100 miles is being replaced by a car that gets 40 miles and then runs on gas 10 years later when the technology would allow something with similar performance to the EV1 to be sold in a fairly cost effective(in relation to the leasing costs of the EV1) manner. There's plenty of proof in the private market that the use of NiMH and Lithium chemistries can be cost effective and last long enough for this to work! :)

  • I wish I had an EV1 !

  • Thank you for making it a good video and not putting in stupid music or other dumb touches.

  • Such a piece of technical beauty. :)

  • A Clean car !!! and quiet .

  • I want an EV1 soooo bad! Stupid GM!

Since you cant get a true EV (it seems), I'm thinking about just turning my car into one, but that may never be in my price range.

  • Just imagine how far battery technology would be advanced if electric cars would have been promoted 20 years ago.

  • Dumb ass GM for stopping research on electric motors. When you produce junk year in and year out your company will eventually go bankrupt.

  • Cool it sound like a space ship but I prefer my Commuter Car Tango.

  • its sounds annoying.... just get a prius

  • this is before a prius

GM made the first full electric car

  • GM killed the EV1 now its there turn to burn lol

  • As long as there is oil the electric car will always be a sideshow... Im not knocking it im down for electric but until oil is depleted and engineeers get batteries to go over 300 miles on a charge electric will never dominate. Long live internal combustion... No one talks about natural gas its the cleanest fuel to run...

  • its been more than 10 years since the EV1 came out, im sure they can make cars go 500+miles today

  • actually, the ev1 was a prototype in 1990! that's 19 years they've had this technology. and now we have to WAIT for the volt?

  • just watch the movie.... you'll know why that happened

  • how much is the volt, isnt it like 45-50k

  • General Morons crushed its future with the EV-1

the once mighty GM reduced to begging with a tin cup

  • GM WORST ERROR:KILLING THE EV-1,

But the kill of the EV-1 is the start of a new Electric era and there already some new electic vehicle yet,but idk where since allt he oil producter and bla blah..are hidding those...and they are trying to let thems seccret but look for thems ul find more that u think

  • the reason why the auto makers destroyed the EV was that they wouldn't make money on it after the customer bought it. the car didn't need to be serviced no oil change no anything that has to get serviced on our cars today, the only thing that needed to be serviced on these cars was to get the tires rotated and fill it up with washer fluid for the windows. thats why chevy is making the volt so it would still make money after it was sold. Since it has a gas motor in it that charges the battery.

  • Why would you buy this piece of crap in a world with cheap gas? Seriously? The only reason anyone would want to own this vehicle, as opposed to the more luxurious, gas-guzzling cars of it's day, would be a purely pragmatic one based upon finances and budget, or some environmental ethic. Other than that, it was just another GM piece of garbage.

Today, the same can be said, that the only reason one looks at the goofy, little Prius, is because it gets 50mpg hwy., in a world of $4 gasoline.

  • Do you even know how many problems gasoline causes today around the world?

  • do you know how many jobs does gasoline gives? And do you know that electricity is not clear energy - as long as some hippie retards nulear power?

EV1 - was interesting. Nothing more. Little distance, very expensive, ugly inside (outside its really cool though), charging takes forever.

It would work only in cities - so why bother. Buy smart CDI it uses 3 litres of diesel per 100km.

  • so energy in our houses is good but not energy in our cars

  • so gasoline jobs are good? LMAO. You fucking idiot. So what if electricity is still being produced by coal. It is still cleaner AND more efficient than gas. Plus, it is possible to later switch our energy infrastructure to renewable resources.

  • U.S. scientist made comparision whats better for environment using bio diesel to fuel vehicles or use it to produce electricity and then use it to charge vehicles. It turned out its better to produce electricity with that fuel rather then using it directly. I'm sorry for rasiakwood (he is also from Poland, but maybe less savvy ;] ).

  • tell me what is cleaner and more efficient. Powering out houses and appliances with electricity, or powering it with gas? Electric motors are 75-85 percent efficient. Gas is 25-35 percent efficient. The rest is lose through heat. Shut your dick sucking lips.

  • you're funny. Wind turbine fucking up the environment? As oppose to coal plants that pollute the air or nuclear power that produce nuclear waste with over 10,000 year half life?! I'm living in reality, where do you live? Yes reality is cool.

off shore wind farms are low impact in comparison. Solar is virtually NO impact. Shut your mouth. You're not at my level.

  • how are your solar batteries recycled, what about the chemicals in the solar panels themselves.also wind farms dont produce enough power to supply shit. currently wind and solar produce less than 1% of the worlds electricty but there are equal to 4% of the power plants. nuclear uses 1% of the plants but almost 20% of the power needed to power day to day life

  • Newer Lithium Manganese batteries are inert and non explosive. Solar voltaic cells are made up of siilca, you now, the stuff you find at the beach AKA sand. Don't you even TRY to compare the "green" impact on burning fuels to solar/wind. Don't produce shit? Yes, there is much power locked in petrol, but we do not need to go to war over wind power, or solar power. There's a carbon fibre wind generator off the highway here and it is ALWAYS spinning. Nuclear power produce waste. Yukka Mountain.

  • look up 4th generation reactors. the use the nuclear waste of older style plants to produce power, they use them in france. wind can only work in certain parts of the world, no wind=no power

  • i know about the efficient plants in france. There are pros and cons of all power systems. The advantages of renewable resources are much better in the long run. right now in AMERICA, nuclear waste is a problem. Dumping the waste inside a mountain is so insane and could have a huge impact on us later, it's better for us to strive from renewable resources and move away from coal. Yes coal can be efficient also, but you realize that coal plants produce electricity right? Why not use mechanical..

  • why not use mechamical, like what. my only problem with all the envirmenalist is that alot of people dont understand electricty. i went to school for power plant. at first we studied all the sources and coal has the most longevity. wind doesnt produce enough, solar cant be stored on an utilty bases. if it could coal and nuclear plants would not work 24 hours a day and 365 days a year. most plants have only 3 shifts running the boiler 2 weeks on 1 week off. because cant find educated people[torun

  • I'm glad we are having an intellegent discussion. Let me put in a financial point into the discussion. You studied electricity and I also learned a bit on my own.I built an electric bicycle with "old" battery technology. With my states utility cost. I was getting less than half a cent per mile of traveling with no peddaling. Given the cost of food as fuel, it was cheaper to Take my electric bike to work rather than pedalling over the long hills using the foods as energy. I was going to break..

  • the difference is you learned it on your own and ive taken 5 years of college for the making of it. as for your bike it should work fine but if you have no charging system the battery would not last to long, ie the battery on a power wheels is 6 volt and only last about 30min. you can convert it to 12 or 18 but life dont get extended much, but does go much faster

  • you've taken 5 years of college to know nothing. Sorry, you need more education. The difference between a power wheels 6 volt battery and my Lithium Iron Phosphate is that I have over 4 times the energy density. I have a 20 AH pack. I can go WELL over 25 miles on a single charge. Please, at least TRY to research what I say before you post.

  • ok the problem with your battery is that if is completly un charged all the cells are dead, "old " battery tech. isnt bad there are much less reluctant to there charging

  • umm no, My battery is connected to a little device called a BMS (battery management system). This protects the battery from low voltage cutoff. Also Lithium Manganese have a characteristics which are similar to SLA's in which they do not need a bms for balancing. Try again.

  • I have a 48V 20AH nominal pack that rests at a constant 55 volts under voltage sag. Let's pretend you know what I am talking about. Under HARD throttle use, it is safe to assume 1 mile per Amp hour or 20 miles. Under mild throttle, I cans easily stretch my range to over 25 miles. Please do not insult me by comparing today's batteries with a 6-10 volt (Sealed Lead Acid) Power Wheels battery. I understand wiring in series and parallel. With 5 years of formal education, I'd expect you to know more.

  • 1 of my major complaints with the enviromentalist is that they all think batterys are clean and recycleable, they are but at high cost, they have to be drained and left to set,

  • you are thinking about the dangerous SLA batteries. If you've been doing your research, you would know that newer lithium batteries can be safely disassmbled and recycled. Also the cells are designed to be non explosive to react to the safety issue of storing so much power.

  • there are no hippie "environmentalists" here. Just people that want to breath clean air, and no go kill brown people over oil. There is nothing wrong with pushing something that works and the EV1 have proven that this can work. I've done it with my bike. And if a big company like GM support this, then we can change the country and make it a better place. You doubt it, why not try it? What is there to lose for you? Nothing.

  • even last month before it was stolen. There are many creative ways we can think of to store electricity. A battery bank is one idea but if I were to think of something a bit more practical, a hydrogen bank is another option. We use excess electricity we produce in peak hours and run the current through water, splitting the molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. If off peak hours, IF we need it, we can combine these molecules using hydrogen fuel stacks and produce electricity. While redundant,
