Anna Moffo was the femal opera star, when i was a child and this opera is the very best ever have been composed. This production is unbelieveable outstanding.
Moffo has a lovely voice. However, it was a mistake to mime this. Opera is a performance art - we need to see the great singers singing. Who wants to watch Federer miming winning Wimbledon, or Bolt miming breaking the 100M record?
Moffo's acting skills are in question - here she is saying goodbye forever to her great love, and she hardly looks at him. She looks bored.
This Traviata film is from 1968. It was made by her then husband who was a movie director (he also directed her '71 Lucia film). For me, Moffo is the best Violetta - the best sung, the best in appearance and in dramatization/acting. No one has moved me as much except for Beverly Sills' Violetta and Teresa Stratas in the 1982 Zefferelli movie. Moffo, Sills and Stratas are the finest Traviatas I've ever heard in my life, but Moffo is the greatest
This is fabulous! I must say Moffo is a pleasant surprise for me! Her performance is so moving, with her warm, feminine voice, she creates a passionate, vulnerable Violetta. (alhough my favourite Violettas are: first Callas, then right next to her, Zeani and Gheorghiu!) Bonisolli is also great, as well as Bechi, although Bechi is much better vocally than as an actor. But Moffo and Bonisolli are incredible, as is the movie direction, costumes and scenery!
Ma che ne capisci di musica, la + grande opera di Verdi, interpretata in modo magnifico dalla Moffo, vatti a sentire i disturbi delle stazioni radio che è meglio!!
@elias12186 Terrible music, you say? That is your value judgement, but it is not shared by the thousands of people who watch this opera performed daily all round the world. You need to ask yourself why they find this music sublime, and you do not.
this opera film must be the world heritage. anna moffo is a true violettad!

I loved her face at the end. But for me the best endings ever were the ones with Callas.

I agree with elias12186. This Ending is not good at all. Callas, Scotto, Tebaldi...They are great.

I agree. Still MAGNIFICENT though, nobody should deny it.
