Carmelo Anthony should take a tape of Hondo and study if for an off season. Everything Melo does wrong on the court (shot selection, movement without the ball, the extra pass, all facets of defense) Hondo does right while having very similar body types and skillsets.
@mkadoza They have similar body types and skill sets, but Havlicek worked harder than Melo did to make it to the league. Havlicek wasn't highly recruited, so he had to work that much harder to make it to the league. He had to utilize his energy because he wasn't always a first option on offense, whereas Melo was always the man with the ball, so moving without it isn't something he favors. Sometimes, little things like that make you the player you are
There's a reason this man won 8 championships. I read in an NBA encyclopedia that he had everlasting energy and would run circles around his opponents. I wonder how he trained...Even in my best condition I would tire after about 5 pickup games.
@MariosLasagna That was his biggest asset, his endless energy. In his final season (77-78) Hondo averaged 34 Minutes per game, for an entire 82 game season, at the age of 37. The least amount of games he ever played in a year was 71.
Havlicek is one of the real All-Time greats, great shooter, clutch player, consistent, iron man, tough defender... he had it all. And he was the bridge from Russell to Bird.
@MariosLasagna Havlicek's family could not afford a bike for him,As a kid he had to run to keep up with his friends,I guess that went on for years.Go running with someone on a bike,See if you can keep up.
@Bird33Larry Originally had a different Gangstarr song that referenced different jazz musicians, it really flowed well... but youtube didn't approve. So i just put in whatever song matched up length-wise. You don't think Hondo likes Gangstarr?
@xmuscularghandix whenever i watch a video with a player from before 1980 i watch it with the song from the end of Theres Something about Mary playing, it works every time.
Nothing fancy just get the ball in the hole.

I don't see the Carmelo comparison. Hondo was a lock down defender, endless stamina... Melo sometimes looks like he doesn't even work out.
As for Hondo not being highly recruited, are you talking about going into college or the NBA?

@Bird33Larry I see no problem with it, as i see no problem with a rock song on a Dr J video. What's with the stereotyping? lol

Both Oscar Robertson & Wilt Chamberlain were ahead of Havlicek in scoring when he retired. Your comment is mistaken
