  • Here's a little question - how do you stop the rear mech making the chain spring back all the time when you're trying to join together the 2 ends to put the pin back in? 2 hours I have been fucking pissing about with this. If I had known it was impossible I wouldn't have removed my old chain. FUCK THIS SHIT.

  • Definitely not the way to install a chain. Hey please revise your video before posting it. He didn't even had the chain placed in the ring. VERY POOR VIDEO. ******DO NOT LEARN FROM THIS GUY******

  • Dude doesn't even have the chain on the big ring when he's measuring 1:47...haha

  • @cmaylone3 if it is a Shimano you won't find it for they don't have any!

  • it depends on whether you are using a Shimano or SRAM system! If it is a Shimano the guy is right... big front, small rear, deraileur vertical like in the video. If it's a SRAM watch specifiacation... SRAM has a power link, not a standard Shimano.

  • lol, erase this video now, you're making a complete fool of yourself and helping no one.

  • how do you find your master chain? I got a rust bucket and I can't seem to find the dam thing.

  • This dude needs to read Sram and Shimanos installation manuals

  • You made the chain replacement so easy. Thanks

  • man that's uuuugly

  • the rear derailleur on my bike is not in the zig zag shape like this one is. itsa just a strait line. I dont know if it is broken or if i am just doing something wrong can anybody help?? i will post a video if it helps

  • I'm no expert but the chain wasn't engaged on the large front sproket when he measured for proper length!!! I doubt this chain will ride right?

  • This worked for me.....I installed 2 chains as shown in the video. As an alternate method, I tried using large front to large rear sprocket with the derailleur in a straight down position. The result of this was that when on small front and small rear sprockets, the chain was way too loose. ....the derailleur arm was flopped all the way back and the chain was flopping on the chainstay. You could use this method, but the derailleur arm has to be up in the 4 oclock position.

  • Sometimes when I shit it feels real good. My python turds are long and massively wide... like a true anaconda, yet endorphins are released throughout my brain making me feel good. Does this make me gay? Sometimes when I feel a big torpedo turd coming on, I'll hold it as long as I can before I relinquish it into the toilet. The pain paradoxically makes me feel good. Why is this so?

  • His correct, there are several ways on doing it. These is definitely one of the ways. Read up your Shimano manual and you all gonna pull back your words. Big chainring and biggest cog is when you don't run your chain thru the derailer, if you run thru the derailer than the video is correct.

  • where did you get that chain breaker because mine sucks

  • 240p? wtf

  • the reason hes doing it this way is because some chains arent long enough to use the high gears

  • epic fail

  • Too blurry. Good try though.

  • I dont know about chain changing, but Shimano recommends installing it the other way round, if I understand correctly.

  • Don't do what he said. Think about it: if your derailer is hanging vertical when you are on your smallest cog at the back what happens when its on the largest Cog? There is more chain needed to go around the larger cog and so the derailer will be stretch way beyond its maximum design and will start to point forward beyond the vertical. Its common sense. Oh well if you did what he said you'll figure it out soon enough =) "WTF... why is my derailer all weird looking???... screw that damn video!"

  • All I wanted to know is how to put it through the derailleur. I guess this video is wrong.

  • hi i just wanted to say that this helped me put a new chain on my bike. thanks alot!

  • This guys method of measuring chain length is not typical, as he said fit it to the large+small sprokect combo. He then said the derailleur should be vertical, now that does roughly corresponds to where it should be when on the large+small sprockt. so maybe he did know what he was doing and its just a different way of doing things..

  • save your old chain, makes a great weapon at home to get the old lady to pick up the pace with dinner and cleaning or to do the nasty less desirable sexual positions.

  • thanks man! i was trying to find a vid on how to put on a new chain but all of them were about making the chain tight, not installing it

  • Dude, at 1:49 the chain got out of the ring, thats why you made a mistake when messuring. The rest is ok!

  • oh wait.. is it when a wheel a spinning to tend make the bike bounce up and down like at the end of this video?

  • That's cause the wheel is unbalanced. In this case it is due to the reflex, carefully watch it and you'll see the bike drop down when the reflex is nearing the bottom and raise when the reflex hits the top.

  • snowtorque can u show us 40 thosand people how to install a chain...

  • lol

  • Wrong! I've been in the bike industry for years, and I've worked on pro's bikes. It's big chainring/largest cog. So many things wrong with this video....plus he didn't even have the chain engaged properly on the big ring when he was taking the measurement. 40,000 people just learned the WRONG way to install a chain. how depressing.

  • hahahahahaha 40,000 people did just learn how to install a chain the wrong way. He should make another video showing the bike shifting to 1 in the rear.

  • can you p[ost a video or link on how to do it correctly I am having trouble myself sizing up my chain

  • there are a million ways to do one thing

  • SNowtorque.... would it not ... depend if you have a rapid rise deraileur or the normal one wich rear cog it goes too?...

  • I was thinking the same thing. that chain is way to short, it won't shift properly or won't shift at all.

  • I don't know any better but it seem like the chain should be on the two largest sprocket , and the the angle of the back derailleur should be a ??? angle.

  • @snowtorque actually he did a good job the jocky wheels lined up vertical and thats about ideal!

  • @snowtorque Small to small IS a correct way to do it. He did over extend the dérailleur but the principle is right. There is more then one way to skin a cat my friend.

  • @snowtorque I was thinking the same thing

  • if you have an sram chain with snap on power link which has say broken at a link which isnt the power link do you just replace that link with a power snap on link? I guess the important thing to remember repariing a chain is just a temporary measure and you should always replace the afterwards with a new one

  • I'm amazed at how quick you got that link to click into place. I spent ages trying to clip it over the two pins. Your videos are very good keep them coming.

  • NO NO NO, you have to put it over the largest small ring after the middle cog to the rear ringed chain linkage arm. THEN cut out an extra link for each separate front middle link bracket hole.

  • that kona is fucking sick

  • Thanks for the video! It really helps!

  • Thanks! I wanted to know how to "open" and "close" the chain but i have learned more ;) Thanks again :)

  • Thanks a lot. That really helped.

  • Thanks dude.

  • Thanks for the tutorial...Ive been trying to find a vid that shows me how to put on the master link...Im fixing up a couple of small kids bikes that have only one gear...much mahalos

  • I learned how to size a chain by putting the chain on the largest sprocket and the largest chain ring, without running it through either derailleurs, and then adding one inner and outer link.

  • I really appreciate you taking the time and effort to film this and teach us how to change a chain. I've got a trike, and I'm putting on a long "boom" on the front, because of my long legs, so when I replace the chain, I must put on a longer chain. it's really great to see you doing it on the little movie. Thanks for your kindness in teaching us.

  • i have a gold chain, with a pendant, in it is a picture of my pet frog .. willy.. hes dead now :( he drowned.☺

  • wrong!

  • thaks it worked..........:)

  • §§ this guy is a dooshbag§§

  • WARNING NOTE: This guy is an idiot and a horrible mechanic. The problem here is that you SHOULD NOT put the chain on the smallest ring in the rear, you shoud put it on the LARGEST RING in the rear and the LARGEST RING in the front. If you do what he says you will NOT be able to shift through all the gears, especially when you have the chain on the highest gear in front and lowest gear in the rear

  • gregoryj26

if u do this the chain will be to long

  • There are many methods that experts use to size a chain. This method is best used with a double set and not good with a triple. If you are using this method with a triple make sure your chain can shift on the big back and front sprocket easily. If not it could be very dangerous.Your not suppose to ride the bike with the above combination but it can inadvertently be put it in that combination; and when that happens you want to make sure it does and is safe.

  • my chain has been too long for half a year.thank you alot.

  • Thanks very much for this!

  • Great video, but could someone clear up something for me, please? There is a close up shot of the derailleur, as he says ''..you want your rear derailleur to be lined up straight, vertical, up and down'' .. but the shot shows the derailleur in a horizontal, not vertical position!

  • Well... I've realized that too... The best thing to do is measure your first original chain that came with the bike to the new one on a table and just cut it to the equal length.

  • He should have said the derailleur cage should be vertical and not the derailleur itself. More percise the two jockey wheels in the cage should make the vertical.

  • you can cut at any link.

  • Is there a special ring in the chain where I have to cut the chain? or it`s the same if I cut at any ring?.

    Thanks for the video.

  • Great video, got my new chain on 1st try in 10 minutes! :)
