Yeah them V-6's were garbage for them S-10's, There was one dude who actually made a motor of the V-6 by super charging the damn thing and then some and got around 450Hp and 490Tq, but it takes some money to do, would drop a V8 in or go buy the Colorado with the V-8 they dropped in them now

@Carder2009 maybe the 2.8 of old but the 4.3's where very reliable i havnt had one die under 290k miles. my old astro van has 310k on it and still going. i traded my 2000 s10 in with 320k on it thing ran like new still. my friend jerry just bought an astro van with 230k thing runs great. they werent great for building up but for being garbage i dont think so

@cbr900rr919 yeah thats true, Im not directly saying they are complete garbage, but when it came to gas mileage, they were as bad as full size trucks, even with the stick shift, I dont hate them and are a fun little truck, I just dont prefer them much anymore

@Carder2009 yeh they did use some gas but they put the 4.3 into the full size trucks to, so in an s10 it used to scoot pretty good for a small truck. i dont have any experience with anything gm put out after 2000 except the 5.3l so i cant say on the reliability of the newer engines but im sure there good. i went to the dark side of the force and got an 05 altima that ive been driving the reliability of it is not so good. i will never buy another foreign car again. they nickle and dime you

A big block goes where a 350 goes...however the block is about 2 inches wider and longer...or thereabout.....the heads pose a problem with header location...the tall valve covers will be damn close to your brake booster if not making it impossible to use both...I am currently cutting my firewall and moving it back as to allow more room for an oil pan and headers. Good luck its a lot of work.

the thing that sucks about me having a 94 S10 is they don't make a lot of parts for it, i'd love to eventually put a new rear end in, a 6 speed tranny, and either a 4.3 (rebuild it) and t/c or tt/c it, or put a new 2.2 (rebuild it) and t/c it and gut the interior out and turn it into a strip truck. i wanna take as much weight off and try and make it over 300hp, hopefully 400hp+

im am not a gm guy by far but i can tell you the best bang for ur buck would be building a 434 small block out of a 400 block..you can get over 600hp on pump gas for under 7 grand complete from carb to pan.383 are nice but not as crazy as a 434.i race alot and know a few guys that have streetable 434's running low 10's and if u dont care about streetable u can dip in the 9's rember this is coming from a ford guy

Very respectable, a ford guy that isnt bent on giving me shit about my chevy...y arent there more people on here like you...i think this might be the most sensible "ford guy" comment I have ever gotten. Those 434's are great...maintaining enough bore spacing in leu of the 454 sbc which cuts it close. It is very possible and I was considering that until i had a 89 454 4 bolt main block in my hands...which is now a 496 in my garage..should be about 675-700 horse...still in the works though...

Any ideas as to what I could do with the interior?

this is a 2000 extreme. I have the stock side skirts, xenon front bumper with billet, the billet inserts in the stock grille, clear parking lights, steel hood, black taillights, step shaver, drop spindles, factory drop on the front, you could do a complete interior swap from the newer style truck??? i dont know, they have fiberglass dash kits out there for your year truck i believe. If not a nice clean interior is sometimes a real plus...especially when you consider simple looks better

yeah...i got first place...there wasnt too many trucks there...but i did get it..about 3 days after that car show there was a SW racing rear frame kit on order. I like how it is now. I guess everyone likes what they make but i feel this is the most badass s10 i have seen...i like keeping it simple..no crazy suspension, no custom paint...just a huge motor clean scheme and FAT FUCKIN TIRES
