It all depends on what is being edited. The Sherrod speech was accurate because he was pointing out how the NAACP were racists by applauding Sherrod's racist comments. She said she sent him to a lawyer who was "one of his kind" and the NAACP were applauding the entire time. She was no victim here, she made racist statements. She went with the farmer to the lawyer and told the lawyer how to file the claim. The farmer called Sherrod again 7 days before farm was sold as the lawyer still wasn't doing anything. She worked, found a new lawyer 40 miles away, & helped save the farm. She said she learned then that she was wrong and change her views (in 1987).
Irrelevant. The FACT that she stated in the beginning when she met the farmer that "she didn't give him all the help that she could have because he was white" that's it ballgame over. We may only have her word she changed in 1987 but the same farmer, Mr Spooner, gave CNN an interview and said Sherrod help them save their farm and was always nice. Meeting the Spooners and helping them helped her to change her racial views.
No, I would not want her to handle a case for me either but mostly because she does not appear to think things out well. She was in the news again yesterday because she wants to prove the White House was behind her outing. Even if it was she agreeded to turn in her resignation to the USDA. I would not have done that if I felt I was being wrongly accused. They would have had to fire me.

If they had they would have ALL found that this was a video that wrongfully edited Ms. Sherrod to make her appear as a racist.

According to Howard Kurtz's article in the Washington Post yesterday, O'Rielly pre-taped his show at 5pm. That's why he was calling for Sherrod to resign on his show while the 'news alert' that appeared at the bottom of the screen announced she had done so.
So yes, O'Reilly jumped the gun and reported on a misleading edited tape without getting Sherrod's half of the story.

Besides I'm never said anything about voter fraud. It's about O'Keefe editing any mount of vedio to fit his "investigation" . Fox News and others reported on it without having all the facts, same the Sherrod speech. My inital point is still Dan Rather had to resign for reporting on a edited/faked news story on "W" that was given to him. To me it's the same.

It all depends on what is being edited. The Sherrod speech was accurate because he was pointing out how the NAACP were racists by applauding Sherrod's racist comments. Let's not try to make Sherrod some poor victim here. There is a BIG difference between edited and faked my friend. Most news videos are edited because of time constrictions.

@topcat42 He was not pointing out applause. The news rec'd only excerpts to make it seem that Sherrod, a Fed Employee, turned down a white farmer. Watch the unedited video. She didn't work for Fed Gov cause incident was from the 80's, and she said what her first thoughts were (the applause = understand/have felt same). She chose to do the right thing and help (which was also appluaded). All edited to make fake a story. You say Sherrod is not a victum, but she lost her job under false charges.

@89dkeeper I saw the whole video and Sherod stated that she didn't give the farmer all the help that she could have. She said she sent him to a lawyer who was "one of his kind" and the NAACP were applauding the entire time. She was no victim here, she made racist statements. She may have seen the light now but back then she was a racist. Someone with those feelings should not have the position she had.

@topcat42 By whole video you mean all 40+ minutes? Did you skip the part where the farmer called her back a few months later as the lawyer was unable to help. She went with the farmer to the lawyer and told the lawyer how to file the claim. The farmer called Sherrod again 7 days before farm was sold as the lawyer still wasn't doing anything. She worked, found a new lawyer 40 miles away, & helped save the farm. She said she learned then that she was wrong and change her views (in 1987).

Irrelevant. The FACT that she stated in the beginning when she met the farmer that "she didn't give him all the help that she could have because he was white" that's it ballgame over. She showed racism and she should not have that job. doesn't matter what happened after. The fact that she claims to no longer be a racist doesn't matter. I'm happy she says she has changed but she still shouldn't be Director of Rural Development for the United States Department of Agriculture.

We may only have her word she changed in 1987 but the same farmer, Mr Spooner, gave CNN an interview and said Sherrod help them save their farm and was always nice. Yes, people can be nice to your face and still have racist views but the FACT is she helped them despite her feelings (her father was killed by a white farmer who did not serve time). Meeting the Spooners and helping them helped her to change her racial views.

She was in the news again yesterday because she wants to prove the White House was behind her outing. Even if it was she agreeded to turn in her resignation to the USDA. I would not have done that if I felt I was being wrongly accused. They would have had to fire me.

Sure those two had no problems recommending fraud but 2 people with bad moral judgement does not mean that "Acorn" fronted illigle buisnesses which is what was implied. That tape was from one office out of several places he taped. Quite a bit of the other stuff was highly edited which makes it suspect.

This was widely reported, and many people in the media, the Department of Agriculture, and even the Obama administration acted hastily without taking enough time to research the substance behind it. If they had they would have ALL found that this was a video that wrongfully edited Ms. Sherrod to make her appear as a racist.
MediaMatters shows the Fox news side alone here, but this is also a part of a larger series on Fox News Race Baiting.

Fox reported this particular story, as it has done with so many others, with a slant based on their political agenda.
This was reported on other stations, but not as an example of rampant black racism within the government.

the problem with your tree trimming company is that their arent enough tree trimmers to give everyone discounts. also, those tree trimmers get tired as the weeks go by and the branches keep growing. before you know it, the tree trimmers cant keep up with their work and start taking shortcuts, eventually neglecting some areas of town just to appease others. oh well, i guess grandma will just have to deal with the trees looking terrible, looks arent that important to the youth.

They could have checked with the NAACP and received video of the entire speech Sherrod had made and they failed this test too. Sherrod herself said she received three phone calls from the White House demanding her resignation. So, is this your view of how the government should treat its employees? If not, why are you defending these imbeciles?

She was FORCED out of her job by the White House - and this had nothing to do with Breitbart or Fox. The reason none of these people checked the story is that it so completely fits their paranoid racist view of reality that they just thought, ah ha, proof at last.
Given that Shirley Sherrod got sacked when she wasn't even racist, it's terribly ironic that none of these scumbags is in danger of losing their jobs.

According to Howard Kurtz's article in the Washington Post yesterday, O'Rielly pre-taped his show at 5pm. That's why he was calling for Sherrod to resign on his show while the 'news alert' that appeared at the bottom of the screen announced she had done so.
So yes, O'Reilly jumped the gun and reported on a misleading edited tape without getting Sherrod's half of the story.

Feel sorry for FNC. There are so many whackjobs on the far right, that it is impossible for FNC to verify every video. Slipped through within 2 hours, thus no time for scrutiny or true investigative reporting. So please cut FNC slack for ACORN false videos and this recent smear. Obviously, u haven't followed up on the story, so let me cure your ignorance by giving u a more up to date information. The tape (in context), shows her using her experience with the white farmer as a lesson for why people *shouldn't* be racist. Period. Go fact check.

That is a lie. Bill O'Reilly tapes his show at 5pm to air later. During that 5pm taping he deliberately chose to report on the Sherrod story for his reality check segment BEFORE she resigned (which was first reported by foxnews.com at 7:51pm).
