played this in high school band -I was a trumpet player-sold the damn thing in college-should of kept it-I could tell my grandson I sounded like that--naaa, he'd never believe it-he's too smart
This hit by Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass was the 62nd #1 song on Billboard's newly formed chart that is now known as the Adult Contemporary charts. It also hit #7 on the Top 40 charts.
HP and the TJB - one of the classics I remember from my earlier years! My dad LOVED them!! Thank you, Dad, for giving me all of the great music that you did....
Killer song, what a hook. This updated cover girl is Killer hot but the original just has more sex appeal/cool . I was about 4 going through my parents albums when I found the orignal. What an influcne of art and music it had on my along with other classic albums they had(MJ thirller,The beatles, earth wind n fire and so on...)THANKS MOM N DAD FOR HAVING GOOD TASTE IN MUSIC
Heard a copy of Herb's greatest hits and after 40 years was able to recognized about 90% of the tunes I have not heard since I was a kid. It did bring a smile to my face.
A long forgot classic! I don't understand the remix here, other than the sound is a bit crisper and cleaner than the original AM radio mix that came out in the early 60's. Maybe different backing musicians and producer, but the same classic song.
growing up i had this very album..fell in 'love ' with the girl and the music wasnt bad...to this day i enjoy Herb's music....even played 1 or 2 in band class...and yes...still think the girl is a cutie..LOL
Lovely melody that was a hit C.1962 for The Acker Bilk Jazz Band (of "Stranger On The Shore" fame), and the vocal was even recorded by the Beatles! I always liked this uptempo version though.
My folks drinking and smoking till the early hours of the morning and me and my group having the time of our lives playing and goofing off without the parents sup-ervision was were it was at.
Most people know Herb Alpert from his music and the music is fabulous. Who else he was: around 1961 him and a friend started a record label called A&M records. They really cared about music. Approximately 27 years later (1988) they sold A&M records for 500 million dollars. In the next 10 yrs, corporate America (not caring about the music but, caring about ONLY the bottom line) ran A&M records into the ground & into non existance. When Herb was there, the music mattered! Thank you Herb!
@whouster Thank you! Also, this was one of my father's favorite songs. Listening to this song makes me jump for joy as, in my heart, I can see my father dancing and full of life (He passed away in April of 2011).
@texasjohnnyboy Dear Texasjohnnyboy, We probably don't have much in common. I am probably older (55), I was born and raised in Philly. And yes I am a green-bleeding Eagles fan who hasn't liked the Cowboys since the Roger Staubach/Tom Landry days of the 70's. I also happen to be African-American (assuming you are white). But I too, like your father, loved this piece. I was a 9 yr old music-lover and it brings back good memories of the mid 60's. May your dad rest in peace. God Bless America!
@phinupi76 Well, I am 58 and don't have any religious fixation on any football team and, yes, I am a so called white person. Thank you very much for your kind compliment concerning my father. Interesting how certain tunes =we identify with certain moments in our lives. God bless Herb Alpert for taking care of so much music.
Sad but true, in the long run it all comes down to that almighty dollar! I grew up listening to the Tijuana Brass, The Lonely Bull was another one of my Favorites.
Wow, I can't believe I found this. Technology is amazing. I had the faintest memory from when I was about 6yrs old in 1978 of this 8-track in my great-grandfathers Cadillac in Florida. I couldn't remember exactly, thought it was maybe Louisiana Brass or somthin with mexican ladies in white dresses on the cover, but I remembered I loved it. I tube searched around for a bit found whipped cream cover knew I found it, then heard the Honey loop and it took me back 32years. AMAZIN!
man-- i used to listen to this LP over and over as a preteen about 1965 while racing my slotcars etc -a real bachelors pad , my bedroom, what more could a girl want? toy cars , planes , Herb Alpert records ,
Sounds like the Fall of 1965. Herb had a LOT of competition on AM radio, but he held up anyway. High school was almost unbearable but the music back then made it tolerable. I shudder to think what the kids today have for musical solace.
@67rml A lot of shoddy music - that's what. But hey, one can always listen to these records time after time. I'm 20 and I love Herb Alpert & the TJB - as with most older music, it involved people with real talent and musical abilities. THAT is what music is about.
I've started buying every Herb Alpert and the TJB a few years ago, but I can say with honesty - I had heard this song well before then. Sometime when I was a kid - who knows from what, but good music finds its way to your ears!
I used to hear this song almost every day on the radio while driving home from work, where a local DJ used it as the background music for the event calendar (yay Cheryl Waters and KEXP!). It still makes me smile and makes me a bit homesick every time I hear it, great tune.
man 3 people have bad aiming they clicked the dislike button by accident. i mean hey maybe they were in a hurry but hell watch what ur donig next time kk?
my grandfather used to play this album when he drank too much. and loud. i used to hide my head under a pillow so as not to hear it. when he passed i found this album and kept it. now when i listen, all it brings back is good memories of him. i am glad he kept it.
umm, I guess somebody might have said this somewhere here, but just in case nobody did ... This song was written by Paul McCartney. I think it was the first song he wrote for the Beatles.
Thanks for the upload, boatbulder ... and yes, this was probably a #1 hit about 1966 or 7.
@EagleMedieval umm, you are sooooo completely wrong! This was a show tune [don't remember the musical]. The beatles did this as a cover in the early 60's years in the cavern and in hamburg. It is not written by paul he sings the lead and it is another great version. slower more as a love song than the bright spirit this version represents. My band actually does both.
Yes, you are definately right. Thanks for setting me straight:
""A Taste of Honey" is a pop standard written by Bobby Scott and Ric Marlow. It was originally an instrumental track (or recurring theme) written for the 1960 Broadway version of the 1958 British play A Taste of Honey (which was made into a film ... in 1961).
As the instrumental version by Acker Bilk was popular in the UK at the time, the song was chosen to be recorded for their 1963 debut album, Please Please Me."
Whipped Cream is the title song of the album of the same name. All the songs had food titles. Circa 1965. The cover is one of the most famous album covers of the 1960s.
I bought this LP at a flea market a few years back simply because it looked peculiar and I'm a younger collector. (I like expanding my musical horizons) I listened to it and automatically loved it.
my dad was a great fan of herb alpert, i would be woken by this song every sunday morning blasting me and the neighbours out of our beds, classic. And i still love it.!!!!

@olarcial I remember going to the Ringling Brothers Circus in 1967 and the band played this. They had the whole Miami Beach Convention Center rockin (at a Circus). This song is immortal and it's every bit as good today as it was when I was 6.
@olarcial If memory servers me correctly there was an Olympic Ice Skater that used this in their routine in either the 68 or 72 games. I can't remember who they were or even if they won.
I had also wondered about this tune. I never knew the name or the artist, but after some diligent searching through instrumentals of the 60's...I have finally found it!
@olarcial Glad you fount it ! In my early teens I would simultaneously hear the music of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, plus the music of the Baja Marimba Band founded by Julius Wechter.....Wechter composed the hit Spanish Flea for Herb Alpert and his band.....Herb Alpert owned A & M Records with a partner named Moss..The A stands for Alpert....A & M Records recorded mainly for the Tijuana Brass, ( naturally ) and also for The Baja Marimba Band, and Sergio Mendez and Brazil 66.
In my opinion, the woman on the older album cover was better-looking...but no matter..this Music is good and that's all that's important.
