So as a huge McFly fan, if somebody heard one of their new songs as their first impression of the band, I would suggest that the person listens to one of their earlier songs so they can get a more McFly vibe and decide from that if they like them. It's what I call "spreading the love."

Consequently, I would never get to know McFly, know their personalities, hear their amazing albums, or be a devoted fan of them like I am now. That one song's impression would be an everlasting thing in my life which caused me to miss out on their awesome music! However, if I came across a song like Lonely, That Girl, or Transylvania, I would keep searching more of their songs and search them on wikipedia and try to learn more about them as musicians and people. (true story).

I've been a HUGE long time fan of my beloved McFly. And I know that many people have agreed that they've changed a lot! If I were a person who had just discovered McFly on youtube and came across one of their new songs, such as Party Girl or Foolish, my impression of them would be totally different compared to their old style. I probably wouldn't even finish listening to the song before I just continued my band hunt, finding other “better” bands and not returning back to McFly.

If you listen to 'Party Girl' it still has the same elements in it that McFly are known for. You can still hear Dougie's bass and some electric guitar, it's all there. It just has more added elements to it now thats all. I think this new album will be a real test for the fans. Only the true fans will stay true where as the weak will fall...
