Out of a stark landscape ,A twilight world we get an outpouring of sibelius passion right in the middle of this movement, characteristic of the finnish spirit.

in case you wanted to know, October 3-5, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra is playing this piece (and Shosty 5, and Tilson Thomas's Street songs for brass)
