If you would cut off that white strip so it won't show and fold the last piece over again to make a rectangle of fabric, you wouldn't have to "walk" your hand up while you cut.
@Somers18829 While this is true, some people prefer to not cut through so many layers of fabric. Also the trick of "walking your hand" is useful for those who are using a longer ruler. Thanks for your suggestions.

@jcrow5427 Thank you. I come from a line of quilters. Both grandmothers were quilters, although I did not learn it from them.
I hope you do try the bias binding. It makes the corners easier to turn. It is actually easier to put on the quilt in my personal opinion.
