Perry McCarthy (Andrea Moda's other driver) sums up the entire team in his book, which i'd urge you all to buy and read. You won't believe just how incompetent this team actually was ... before they got banned from F1 for "bringing the sport into disrepute"!
@fabiomoysesbm Exactly. I don't know any other driver who competed for so many poor teams like AGS, Coloni, Eurobrun, Andrea Moda and Forti. But amazingly he didn't lose his talent and he had great seasons for the Benetton team.
Oh, and of course Moreno was at Oulton too, how did I forget to mention that? Guess it's as I'd already met him a couple of times last year, and Perry was the new addition to my autograph hunting :) Kind of surreal to have both Andrea Moda drivers in the same paddock 19 years on.
Got to meet Perry McCarthy at Oulton Park last weekend (he manages Scott Pye in British F3). So I thought I'd look for Andrea Moda footage on youtube, surprised to see only one result and only recently posted! Thanks a lot for this :=) Always thought it was a great looking car (the base livery helps - black on cars of that era looked awesome).
visually speaking, the chassis is very nice. the package that Nick Wirth designed was very neat and tidy. if you notice, the design of the 1994 Simtek is in many ways an evolution of this Andrea Moda chassis. It was just the utter mismanagement of the team by its eccentric owner that doomed this team from day one.
Front view reminds me a little of the 93 Sauber, but it's probably just the colour. Not a bad looking car actually, but the sidepod graphics look like an elementary school project.
Beautiful car but the team was doomed as the owner (an Italian shoe making gangster) insisted on managing the team in accordance to the Dick Dastardly handbook.
I was at Silverstone when they sent Perry McCarthy out on wets for the last few minutes of the dry qualifying session, obviously Perry failed to Qualify, but the crowd errupted and he got the biggest cheers of the day-Including "our Nige".
Because No 1 driver Roberto Moreno got first dibbs on any of the very few resources the team had, including tyres.
Roberto was given the soft qualifiers and i can only assume that any remaining slicks that they had were being held back in the faint hope that he would qualify for the race. Thus,as a token gesture for his home GP,Perry was given a set of wets to do a couple of parade laps.
I even remember a few hardcore fans having"let Perry out" t-shirts printed in support.
If Sauber and Simtek would have had baby in 1992, this would be it :o

I wish the video of Andrea Moda trying to kill Mccarthy at this same race weekend.

that car is probably better than the Indy cars of 2011. and i am telling the truth.

@jowp83 that's not that hard lol

Moreno was the only professional person in this team.
If somebody have Monaco 1992 qualifying sessions we finally can see how Roberto did something unrealistic.

Oh my God, that's a RUNNING Andrea Moda! Unbelieveable, I should call Agent Murder and Scully, cos it's unexplainable!

@Smertyin092 Yeah! Possibly the only thing rarer than that is a running Life car from 1990!!

Never ever seen an Andrea Moda turn a wheel in anger, this must be the only video evidence in history that exists of the car running!!!

@avfcmatt1982 Nah, they also ran for a bit(!) (and qualified!) at Monaco that year too.

...well, both the main ones anyway, after Caffi and Bertaggia left.

@sinnae404 By the way, S921 was designed by Nick Wirth, who is technical director of the Marussia Virgin Racing now.

@TheVimtoMoustache Ah I see, thanks.
I seem to remember Perry getting just to the end of the pitlane in Barcelona before the car broke. What a depressing F1 career he must have had!
