Van Damm was a karate black belt, never world champion, who did body building and ballet. He looked good and got started in movies in the film No Retreat No Surrender. I think he is more inlove with himself then he is a good martial artists. But, his films did make people enrolle in schools.

his technique is cool for movies and maybe sport karate..but there is no hip and body movement on his techniques so no power. Cant fight a real fighter like this.
come on its van damme!..what exactly is a "real fight? ..usually ppl arnt mugged by martial art experts . just had deja vu ..anyway ..its a smaller person wont try to jump a bigger guy unless there are two of them ..or more ..the real question is . .would you be ready if it happened today ? ..I ask myself all the time ..

lol no its not in a cage, its a tornament of some of the most greatest fighters from around the world, only the best get invited, its more of an ancient style tornamnet but i dont know if they still do it, i dont think they do. You'd fighters that do Karate, Kickboxing, Judo, Aikido, Kung Fu, Boxing etc.. and i think u was allowed to kill your opponent thats how serious it was.
I have heard of such fights. They must drink the blood of their dead opponents. It is in these fights you see the deadly arts of chi blasts, iron face ect..
kumite is a secret thing that everybody knows about, if u know what I mean. U could kill opponent, but if u did u wouldnt win by honor, people would see u as a psycho. Kumite is actually a spiritual event, but that was in the old days.
He even offered Steven Seagal to fight him when they were at a part at either Bruce Willis' house or Sylvester Stallones house, Van Damme asked Seagal if he wanted to fight and Seagal didnt do anything. So if he offered Seagal to fight then i guess hes even really stupid or he can fight.
I know what you're saying, people get black belts even if they dont deserve them nowadays. All i was saying is that he does have a black belt in Shotokan Karate thats all. I dont know if he can handle himself in a real fight.
Look he trained in Ballet and Shotokan Karate. You see in his films that he can kick high and do the splits, thats because of his ballet training but he does have a black belt in Shotokan Karate, why is it so hard for you to believe that?
