I spent a time in Paririe City as a child. My father was a road builder. I wnet to a one room school house. The other kids all lived in sod houses. I have always longed to return. It remains in my heart forever. We went to the Buttes on a school excursion once. When I saw the Australian film 'Picnic at Hanging Rock' the emotion was similar.
@Paha57770 I never forget. I think my father built the hi-way the runs along there (not alone). You have good footage. Looks like you might have climbed the buttes. Recalling, I think there may be some back roads that run up them. Does Prarie City still exist? Ìt was a ghost town then. There was a nice hollow near Prairie City, magical. Lush green with a pond. I almost drowned. There was an old couple that lived on top of the ridge where you could watch the sun fall into eternity.
@TheLonesomeEchoesite The video was taken about 20 miles west of Prairie City. Not much to it nowadays other than a signpost. The towns of Bison and Buffalo are still hanging in there.
@Paha57770 The mainstreet was already a ghost town then. Once there had been a Hotel, but it was fallen then and only its sign told. I think I collected all of the pop bottles in town and cashed them in. There were only a few families in town, if any. There was a rancher in the area who had import cars and an airplane. Of course, Slim Buttes being 20 miles away, the area is big. I think of the kids I went to school with and that hollow with the pond. I learned so much there, even absract art.
